Lovely old building with lots of history in the heart of the town. Big and easily accessible car park. Nice pub with spacious layout and good atmosphere. Our room (#2) was comfortable with old beams, space and character. Had a lovely evening meal with friendly service and excellent foods and very reasonably priced wine. Excellent breakfast. Tutbury is a lovely small town with its ruined castle, beautiful church and nice pubs. We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stop .

The shower plumbing was typically British and tricky to get a shower that wasn’t either boiling hot or icy cold but were British so it didn’t really bother us!!

Location was good and the room was comfortable and dinner was good evening. I'm not sure that this would be classed as a 'romantic' place to stay!

Realise that the hotel is very old and quirky but thought it looked quite tired and needed refurbishing and recarpeting. The carpet up the stairs where our room was, looked very worn and could have been slightly dangerous. We found that as an 'elderly' couple the stairs were very narrow and steep and fire doors were exceptionally difficult to open especially if you have a walking stick in one hand and luggage in the other!

excellent staff, very friendly and attentive, they remembered my requirements each day when I came to dinner (I have allergies, and they remembered these each day) the Greene King app is also excellent for filtering food containing allergens. I have used this several times at different pubs and hotels and it has always served me well. there was ample parking, great food, and a magnificent building with exposed wooden beams and period features throughout. also really pleased to have a fridge in the room, and all necessary mod cons were provided.

rooms and bathroom could use a refresh, but overall this as a fabulous place to stay!

the staff were brilliant - we had travelled to the area as our son had a 2 day assessment and we wanted to stay close by. Unfortunately the assessment ended unexpectedly meaning we had to pick him up early; the staff in the hotel changed the room to a family room for us at very short notice which meant we could stay for the 2 nights we had planned. The alternative would have meant we would have needed to come home or get an additional room (son is just 16 btw!). the welcome we received and the information re the facilities was top notch considering the girl (sorry forgot her name) had only just started. All the staff were very cheerful and helpful. Rooms were full of original features which was lovely; every where was clean and plenty of storage. Might not suit people who struggle with stairs. We had an evening meal on our first night which was great. bar and restaurant were well decorated and comfortable. Would stay again and would recommend.

Nothing really, it was clean and comfy I had seen reports re the hardness of mattress and it was a little for me but husband loved it! Also the bathrooms had been reported as needing an update - probably do but they were clean which is the main thing.

I collapsed while staying here and the staff were amazing - they couldn’t do enough to help looking after me and calling an ambulance, allowing us to book out later than advertised and given breakfast in our room the following day. I think Mark was the Manager while we were there. Two local ladies were extremely caring and I’d like to say thank you to them too. Nothing was too much trouble and I hope I’ll be able to stay there again in better circumstances!!

The hotel itself was situated in the town which was very pretty. The staff at the hotel were really helpful and polite. Breakfast and dinner was very well cooked and presented, compliments to the chef. Air Con in the rooms, not expected for such an old building.

Booked a family room, the double bed was fine but there was no way you could sleep on the sofa bed in this room. The room was just not big enough for 3 people ( 2 adults plus 1 child under 16)

Pleasent staff. In room 2, which was very large (room and bathroom), with beams and separate toilet within Bathroom. Comfy bed. Large TV and desk with 3 chairs. Liked the fact I had a fridge and could have fresh milk. Very reasonable price.

Stayed two nights, and the first morning there was no cooked breakfast as there was no gas in the kitchen due to a boiler failure, which the girl said was a regular occurrence. They were hoping to get someone out to fix it before lunchtime as it was close to xmas and many were booked for lunch. Continental selection was very limited. So just ended up having a muffin, toast and marmalade. The second morning had a lovely cooked breakfast.

The bar & breakfast staff were very nice, breakfast was good & plenty of choices, The room was nice & big , bathroom was big with a bonus of a bath, with plenty of hot water. The bed was also a good size , but a bit hard for us both, but its hard to please everyone as far as beds are concerned.

The restaurant side stops serving to early, Also as from this week I was told that they are going “card only “ for everything in the hotel, for this reason I won’t be returning, I don’t mind paying by card but I do like a choice .

The hotel is very old Grade 2 listed. I loved staying in a place with character. You have to expect some wear and tear. Our room was massive and didn't feel over crowded with furniture. We had a 2 lovely old sash windows in the room, the one in the bedroom gave us a lovely view although it is low down. The food was lovely. The staff were very friendly, and even though short staffed we had no problem at all. It was lovely to see it popular, just like it was over 40years ago when my grandmother brought me for the carvery at the time.

It's a very old hotel you have to take it for what it is. The manager and staff were very helpful. We did have a very small problem but it was sorted by the manager within 30 mins of us mentioning it.

Charming place with lots of character, the room was specious and clean. One slight criticism would be the shower handle which was quite stiff so the water too hot, also the shower curtain is a little old so definitely needs changing (room 2). Breakfast was plentyful and very tasty, dinner delicious, and for lunch we had most excellent fish with risotto - most recommended! Staff are very polite. The location is fantastic, Tutburry Cartle is a short stroll away, nice little shops around. We had a great stay and will return.
