We booked the family room. It was huge, the beds were comfortable and the water in the shower hot. The continental breakfast plentiful and Sanjeewa, who checked us in and looked after us, worked very hard to make everything as good as he could. At less than 5 minutes walk from the Cathedral it was a brilliant place to stay for my daughters graduation. Given what we paid, it was absolutely adequate for a three day trip and we would come again.
The building is old, listed and quirky, which means that it's a little awkward in it's layout. The stairs are a bit twisty but it can't be helped. It's a bit shabby too but it's clean and warm and very cheap, given it's location.

Greyfriars Lodge is ideal due to its central Canterbury location - it was clean, comfortable and the property itself was nice and quiet no nuisance guests that I was aware of.
Only gripe and this isn't at the hotel, staff or other guests. Canterbury is a student town and Fridays can be wild, I spent about 20 minutes watching a group of feral teenagers smoking some putrid substance and drinking what appeared to be bootleg moonshine, The young woman with them proceeded to violently projectile vomit across 3 out of 4 of her tribe just outside the window. Again this is not the hotels fault and to be honest im not even really moaning as it was very entertaining listening to the local wildlife chat absolute waffle whilst clearly residing on another planet altogether. Also tv remote didn't work I just wanted some music or noise no biggie just ended up using my phone

Sanjeeva was the perfect host. He really looked after us well, and cares that his guests have a good time. The room was a bit cramped for two, but only to be expected at that price. Fine for a two-night stay. Old interior wooden beams added character. The noise wasn't the fault of the hotel, from workers starting early at a building site next to it currently, and some noisy people in the street at night. Not things they can control. It's a perfect location, just a minute's walk from Canterbury's main street. A great base to explore this lovely city. Continental breakfast exceeded expectations: toast, crumpets, muffins, cereal and juice on offer. With cheese and a selection of meats. (Non-meat eater, so can't comment on these.)
Stairs were a bit difficult to manage, and not well-lit at night where the stairs are narrow and go around a corner. There are automatic lights at the top and bottom, but the corner doesn't seem to be covered. Sanjeeva took up our suitcases for us, so that was a big help. Fine for younger travellers, I would think! Bathroom was quite small, but adequate for us, with a good shower, and very clean where it matters (just the skirting boards could do with a wipe). Sink was so small it was difficult to fill the kettle or a water bottle.

Fine breakfast. Very convenient location for the train station, main street and all the sights. The manager couldn't have been more helpful. Sanjeev dealt with a major plumbing problem extremely efficiently; we were in a new room in barely quarter of an hour!
Our room was a little small, but the positive aspects noted above, and the price, outweighed that. There were many loose fittings needing attention and the carpet and shower had some overlooked spots in need of further cleaning. With a bit of sprucing up the place could be excellent! (Of course it would be more costly then!)

If I had a few notes about the room, I would say the shower head could do with a swivel because it sprays at one level and I'm a little short so it hits my face! The drain was a little backed up as well but it does drain eventually. But the pressure was fine, easy to work, nice and warm. The towels also had several black marks on them so I hope they were clean and the marks were just stains!

Location was in the heart of old town canterbury, but just 1-miute down a side road, so the building/street was very quiet. On arrival, the manager was super friendly, helped us with everything we needed and was very informative about the lodge, and surrounding area. We had a small issue with water tempature in our shower, and he was extremely helpful in giving us a solution immidiately, as well as acting swiftly to fix the problem. The room was exactly what we expected. Very comfy and with all amenities that were needed. Continential breakfast was offered, and it was more than we expected!

I liked the location, balance of a price and quality, even the breakfast was included! Sanjeewa (staff) male was very friendly, he gave a friendly cuddle to my son and offered to leave my things in the lodge (after our time finished in it), so we wouldn’t need to carry for whole day, which was very nice of him. Extra mile - well done!❤️😊The bed was comfortable, bathroom, toilet, cabinets, wardrobe & floor clean! The Greyfriars lodge gave us tv, clean towels and hand soap and toilet paper (not everywhere you can find toilet paper or clean towels)… We had a great rest!😊Thank you!😊❤️
Unhappy other clients..🙃Sometimes when people unhappy with themselves, they will be unhappy with everything else. This is how it looked like for me.

Sanjeewa welcomed my partner and I in a wonderful way, the room was warm, location excellent and Sanjeewa helped us prepare for a wedding by lending us an iron and to find the best parking, as well as provided a really nice continental breakfast.
Unfortunately there wasn't any non-dairy milk available at the breakfast, which isn't a big deal for the majority, but want to let non-diary drinkers/lactose intolerant folks know.

I like the way the receptionist approach to welcome us at the hotel. The facilities he provided is up to the mark. His name is Sanjeewa, a srilankan guy is very decent at hospitality. The location is pretty well. We wish to visit it again in near future.
one think i need to mention, as its summer time, the air facilities in the room not in satisfied level. We Couldn't sleep well at night due to high temperature and we sweating literally. The stand fan they provided wasn’t moving so it was difficult for 4 of us to take air from it.

Sanjeewa our host was very helpful & friendly, made us feel welcome. Room was clean, bed comfortable and there was ample supplies of tea/coffee/milk. Buffet breakfast was offered to us but not required, just had a coffee. Small room , good for a short stay. Good location.
Had to park away from the property ( not too bad about 10 minutes walk) Numbering strange in the street so hard to find. Toilet had a flush like an airplane one.
