This hotel was a revelation like a secret unpublicised. Placed in a beautiful setting in the foothills of the 'Peaks' amongst well kept gardens and parading peacocks making their presence felt. I was expecting a Best Western type venue but what I got was the kind of individual service attention only found in luxury hotels. Dating back to 1581 the reception area was black oak beams, stone chimney-pieces and antiquity. The dinner was beautifully cooked finished with hot apricot pudding dessert. I made a note to try and return.
I didn't like the width of the corridors which meant on occasion having to negotiate them at an angle. My room at the end of a long winding corridor had no less than five level changes, small 2 inch ledges to accommodate the ancient beams beneath no doubt on that first floor. Given the Tudor listing and the costs involved in resolving this deficiency it was understandable but inevitably holds back the charge rates.

Historic building, located in the countryside, with a long access road to its entrance gate. Staff helped carry our bags to and from the room, all staff were helpful and friendly.
Too many steps in the old half of the building, while on the same floor level, up and down a series of steps. Lift to 1st floor at the new end of the building. Poor to non-existent mobile phone coverage, hotel WiFi open so insecure. TV reception in our room was just about 3 channels, staff unable to fix during our stay.

Whitley Hall is a delightful period property set in lovely grounds. Plenty of parking spaces. Large, clean rooms with furniture to match the age & style of the building. The hotel has a quaint bar & restaurant, although living locally & having eaten in the restaurant several times in my opinion there is better food & value elsewhere but it’s a nice dining experience in pleasant surroundings.
I felt the mattress in my room had had a lot of wear & was probably ready for replacing. No conditioner only generic hair & body wash Shower over bath which is a bit steep to get in & out of

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The property is lovely - a very big room with a very comfortable bed and two decent arm chairs. The bathroom was well planned with a bath and a rainfall shower head.
It's harsh to say 'not like'. The fundamental hotel facilities are great. But there were a few odd bits. The staff didn't seem to quite have their systems together. Individually good, but not quite happening together. I ate a lovely dinner- but they forgot the chips (the only potato offering, sadly) so I ate it in 'two courses'. The meal was served but no-one checked back with me. The on screen TV guest instructions did not indicate that I needed to book a table with reception. So when I arrived I was sent three steps to reception and then turn round and give my details again to check in. Difficult to explain but just not smooth...

The rooms were spacious and comfortable and clean, the en suite was very nice.
Breakfast wasn't included in the price of the room, which we all thought for the price we paid it should have been. There was a wedding on at the time and the hotel bar was not staffed, you had to ring a bell for someone to come. Unfortunately this had been left to a member of staff who had never worked behind a bar before and it was obvious that he was not happy and felt uncomfortable being there. The cost of a round of drinks was extortionate.

The food was excellent. The staff was excellent and there was no request too small. Their coordination and communication with guests and each other. Beautiful scenery.
Glass tops on side tables are dangerous. They move and glass should be nowhere near a sleeping person. The furniture was too big for the rooms. The towels were not brilliant white. Showers - could be re-grouted. No, I am not an inspector which is why these issues are important.

We had dinner with work colleagues with drinks in the lovely garden beforehand. My husband and I stayed the night and it was as lovely as remembered it from a few years ago. It is such a beautiful old building and although it has modern extensions all the main areas, reception, bar, sitting room and dining room are in the old part as was our room. So quiet and relaxing and a lovely breakfast cooked and served properly. A delight!

Food was excellent as was the service. Room was comfortable, one bulb did not work. hot water was instand. The old windows did not close properly but iut was warm. Pergaps different in the winter. I requested a quite room. It was at the end of a coridoor but the heating extractor for the ktchens was directly to the rear outside the bathroom window which did not close properly so there was a constant backgound noise which necessitated closing the bathroom door and door to the room so restricting ventilation on a hot evening. The front window overlooked the staff entrance to the kitchen so noise filtered up from there , especially in the early morning or when staff left at night. I made the error of leaving my car keys when registering at the front desk but did not miss them until leaving in the morning. I searched everywhere and could not gain access to my car. I finally went to report my missing keys only to be told that they had been left at reception the evening before. My fault, of course, but with a little ingenuity and seeiing that they were Audi keys and then checking the car park later in the evening to see if any Audis were parked there and noting the registration to comapre to that on the registration form for the hotel, my alarm at not being able to get to my meeting could have been avoided.

A very chilled out atmosphere, relaxing. Staff very pleasant, polite and asked if we were ok/needed anything. We had visits to our room window by Peacocks, 3 beautiful birds that lived in the grounds, lovely!
There was a fire alarm at around 6am! My Sister and me made our way to the assembly point at the front of building, to find it was some one who had left there bathroom door open, releasing steam into the room! One of the guests said she had actually smelt cigarette smoke coming from one of the rooms! My Sister and i had also seen cigarette ends outside our room window on the roof, so we realised some people just dont adhere to 'rules of the house' - such a shame.
