We stayed at Garrison in August 2024, and this is one of the nicest and coziest hotels in the UK I've had the pleasure of visiting. Starting with the staff, everyone was extremely courteous and helpful. We arrived much earlier than expected (roughly 3-4 hours before check-in time) and had booked two rooms. They kindly allowed us to check into one room so we could freshen up and make the most of our day. Thank you for that! The location is conveniently situated within the city center, easily accessible by bus and cab. Morrisons is just a stone's throw away. The breakfast options were impressive, with vegan alternatives, and the meal was wholesome and delicious. We were informed in advance about a wedding at the hotel, and our room was thoughtfully positioned away from the party venue, so we didn't hear much noise. The party timing was until 12 am, which shows they consider other guests' comfort. We wanted to visit Castleton in the Peak District, and the hotel's location is conveniently close, with both cabs and buses available from the city center. (Tip: Opt for day passes on local transport to save money.) The rooms were spacious, neat, and tidy. My experience was great, and I highly recommend this place. Positives: - Spacious, neat, and clean rooms - Courteous and helpful employees - No disturbance late at night - Close to city center, accessible via cab and bus - Morrisons nearby - Allows early check-in - Delicious breakfast with vegan options
Downsides: None significant, but complimentary water would have been a nice touch. However, it's not a big deal.

The staff on reception and throughout the building were very courteous and friendly. A chap was pottering about most days tending the gardens and keeping the externals clear and clean. The Breakfast staff were excellent with there service and quality of food served. Chef produced the best omelette I have had, and that's some claim. Full yorkshire fry up is quite small though, one sausage, one slice of bacon, one egg, small portion of beans and mushrooms, two hash brown and half a grilled tomato wouldn't keep a busy person going all morning. Having said that, it was very well cooked and there is plenty of continental options to top up on.
Rooms are quite dated and in need of a bit of a revamp. They are clean but showing the stresses of a well used property. A fair bit of wear around bath, shower, toilet and sink.TV's are old but do work. I was in and out through the day, but would be out all morning each day, as visiting my very poorly mother in hospital. My room was only cleaned the first day of my stay due to this with no communication as to a good time the housekeeping staff would be able to enter the room. I suppose mornings are used to make rooms up for new guest arrivals but a system could be put in place for guests staying more than a night, rather than the do not disturb one. A room available between certain hours card for example.

Lovely room was nice to open a window for fresh air, close to amenities, staff were amazing lovely friendly, nothing was too much trouble from the ladies on reception, bar staff were lovely once you got there attention, room was spotless well done too house keeping
Food wasn't too good, breakfast I was greeted upon arriving, then had to find someone to order my cooked breakfast, solo traveller, everyone else was approached on larger tables, and they got there's, I was sat waiting for 20 mins before,so eventually got up to find some one to take my order, and to be honest breakfast at the supermarket next door would have been better, not worth the price

The location and premises were great. I enjoyed having a nice pint of cider at the bar. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I am not used to the British cold so it was really nice to have a space heater in the room. There is a lot of restaurants and a Supermarket/mall a couple minutes away. The tram is less than 10 minutes away, and the buses even closer. If the opportunity to return to Sheffield comes, this is the first place I’ll look for a room. Thank you Garrison!
This is absolutely nitpicking but the rooms could use a fridge. Fortunately for me it was cold enough outside for me to put my drinks there.

Stunning picture perfect Hotel in a convenient location for a short taxi / uber to all that Sheffield has to offer. Staff were wonderfully helpful, warm and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Room was very comfortable with everything we could need . The bar is warm, relaxing and had gorgeous original features . We had after show drinks and felt suitably cosy , ready for bed after one or 2 of the extensive collection of rums, brandys and whiskys on offer. Breakfast was utterly heavenly!!! Hot food is made fresh to order with a good variety available. Plenty of excellent quality tea and coffee and a great selection of continental buffet.
I can't think of anything!

I know the area having been born & brought up in Sheffield and I didn't want to have to find a city centre hotel, so the location was ideal for my needs (visiting the Grenoside area as well as the Peak District) It is easily accessible and there's the benefit of having Morrisons supermarket and petrol station close by. The staff had the Yorkshire 'warmth' that I expected - they were helpful and welcoming, especially the delightful breakfast waitress. The cooked breakfast was very good, and there was a wide selection available to suit most tastes with the usual serve yourself beverages and cereals. The room was nicely equipped and clean, and the bed was comfy - it had everything that I needed for a base. There were ample towels, hot water, toiletries, and a powerful shower (and bath) in the ensuite. The bathroom was clean, but being 'well worn and tired' it was in serious need of a makeover, and that was the only thing that let it down. If you have limited mobility, there are a few disabled spaces close to reception; otherwise, there's plenty of public parking just around the corner. Apart from breakfast, which was served in an upstairs room, I chose not to eat in the restaurant, so I'm unable to comment on that. All in all, it was a positive experience.

It was a lovely old garrison building, it's on a hill so the view's were good. Plenty of parking at back of hotel, however, it said entrance to the hotel could be made from the back bar door, but it was locked so we had to lug our suitcase around to the front on cobblestones which was not fun but manageable. Check in was quick and easy. Room was spacious and clean and there was plenty of soap, shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom. Extra blanket and pillows were also present if required and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was really good. There are plenty of options from continental to ordering a hot breakfast of your preference and the staff there was very nice and friendly. McDonalds is right next door on one side and Morrisons on the other which was very convenient and only a 5 minutes walk to KFC and Dunkin Donuts so plenty of options if you don't want to eat at the hotel.
My only recommendation would be to provide bigger fans for the room. The days were a bit warm and we only had a very small desk fan. For a room that size a slightly bigger fan would have been preferred.

The breakfast options were good, unfortunately on our first breakfast morning, it was continental breakfast only due to staff shortages. A big disappointment as a hotel full English starter for the day is something to look forward to. Room was large enough for two occupants to move around without getting into each others way, very comfortable double bed offering a good nights sleep. Took some time for the hot water to come through before being able to wash. A significant waste of water to run the hot tap for upwards of 5 minutes before the water reached an acceptable temperature. Our bathroom fluorescent light fitting started to strobe as the circular tube had reached the end of its serviceable life it was reported to housekeeping through reception for replacement. Plentiful supply of UHT milk capsules for coffee or tea and easy access to TV programmes via the handset. Would definitely stay here again as the garden plants were beautiful and well kept. The negative remarks were relatively minor and were rectified as soon as possible. Wouldn't advise this hotel for disabled or the infirm, due to the steep stone stairs that would make getting around difficult for wheelchair users but there was a lift available to get to the breakfast room. This is a picturesque old building from a previous use as an 18th century army barracks that resembled a castle or stone fort from a bygone age. Very pleased that it has survived the centuries and has a modern secondary use. Plentiful free parking available, best to drive to the reception to offload any luggage as their could be a significant walk, then repark the car if reception parking is full.

Clean, spacious room. Basic but everything you need for a weekend away to have as a base. It was everything we needed. Staff were all really friendly, including bar staff, housekeeping and reception. We were able to check in early as the room was clean which was a great bonus as not every place allows this. Good beers in the bar and surprisingly good breakfast options, especially for us veggies! Bus stop is a 2 min walk.
I can’t really think of anything!

We stayed here for 2 nights & have just arrived home. We were unsure what to expect & pleasantly surprised. Staff are friendly & welcoming. We were in room 220 - no complaints at all. The hotel is in the grounds around the old Hillsborough Barracks, there are shops in the area to get all you need - even a B&Q & Morrisons have most of the old Barracks, along with a Shopping Parade. The whole area is steeped in history & we loved everything about our stay. Breakfast was nice with a great choice (cooked breakfast is made to order) so don’t expect it to come straight away, there is cereal, fruit compote & yoghurt to start you on your way whilst waiting. We ate in the restaurant 1 night & portions are good. 2nd night we ate @ Eataly Italian down the road, the owner was friendly & welcoming & the homemade Tiramisu was out of this world. The Garrison is a lovely hotel, the rooms are on 2floors overlooking a courtyard with gorgeous gardens. A visit to Wentworth Woodhouse is a must, a beautiful stately home & Gardens £14 admission each & we were there 4hrs. We would recommend & will visit again. Thank you Garrison Hotel
