In general it exceeded my expectations. Neat old hotel with its own charm. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were decent (I assume they are the same every day though, so might get stale after a while). Located right outside of Derby train station, very convenient. Perfect location for Download Festival attendees :)

As many other reviews mentioned, water issues. Water would randomly stop and you are standing in the shower cold and wet waiting for the next serving of low pressure water to come through. Wifi was fairly slow, especially during our final day. Speedtest showed 0.5 mbps.

The location was perfect for what we needed, breakfast was buffet style; simple, tasty and easy to navigate. Partner particularly enjoyed the little croissants. Well kept hotel and polite staff.

The little lift available was a little juddery which we found a little scary. On the Friday evening the fire alarm went off, after the quick evacuation with other guests. We was told it was a fault due to the bad weather and a leak near the panel. We hope that this issue gets fixed to prevent this from occurring again in the future.

East to find near the train station. Free car park at the back of the hotel is a real bonus, safe and secure. Good sized single room, comfy bed, everything very clean. Jenny on reception is a real delight, so helpful. A great breakfast set us up well for a day at Donnington,

For us, little could be improved. Maybe a couple more draught beers, Guinness would be good. Some softer seating in the reception and bar area, as everything is tables and chairs, 4 or 5 sofas would do it.

The beds were very comfortable and the room was spacious and clean. There was a good bar and attentive, friendly staff. Breakfast was served until 10.30 on the weekends and 9am on week days, and you had the choice of a full English or continental breakfasts. Cooked well and tasty!

The only problem was the distance from the room to the car park as I am disabled but this would not stop me from staying here again.

Lovely hotel, as soon as we entered our room the heating was on so was great considering this cold weather at the moment, secure parking but i would arrive early to get a space as it isnt a massive car park we were lucky to get one, train station down the street, 10 minute walk into town centre, off licence shop up the road open 24 hours, takeaways a short walk away, comfortable bed, rooms were clean and spacious. The Night Porter was a lovely man . Overall, a great night will definitely be stopping here again

The kettle in our bedroom leaked but not sure if that was my partner or the kettle 🤔 😅, the bathrooms were clean but looked dirty due to what I think looked like a stain in the sink but I'm not faulting it still worked as it should.

Staff were friendly night porters were great, location was brilliant for us, will definitely be staying again

Some noise from the train station and taxi rank but nothing to spoil the stay.

The bathroom was very cramped There are lots of stairs on route to some of the rooms, having to go down to come back up again. It's not a good idea. Lift seemed very old and no indication of where it was. No light switches by the bed.

This is the third time i stay at this hotel. it is just off the Derby Train Station and near to the conference venue. It is very convenient for traveller. The reception and bar areas seem renovated since my last stay at the same time last year. On the whole the hotel is clean and nicely kept. The room is spacious and in a quiet location as i have requested, but this room is not wheelchair accessible. We ate at a nearby restaurant in the evening. The food is good.

There is no enough signs to the rooms. There is smell in the room, typical in a building of this age. Some air fresher will help. The furniture needs updating. Only breakfast and light snacks are served in the hotel. It would be better if other meals are available or more food available on the menu.

As always with the Aston, you are met with very friendly staff. I was able to have the room I asked for. The hotel is a little old fashioned, but comfortable. Plenty of variety at breakfast (help yourself) cooked or continental. Unfortunately they have stopped serving lunch, because there is not much call for it. and evening is only sandwiches. You would have to go to a restaurant for your meals. As I was visiting my family in Derby, that wasn't a problem for me. I will definitely becoming back in about 6 months time

There wasn't anything I didn't like, except there are a lot of steps going down to get to your room, quite steep, very tricky with a heavy suitcase

Staff at check-in and check-out were incredibly friendly. Room being in a quiet part of the hotel was much appreciated. Hotel may be a little dated in areas, but is very clean and an absolute bargain for the proximity to the rail station,

Decor and carpets are a little worn in places, but not a massive issue (certainly not for the price). Access to each floor is by lift, but still involves going up and down a series of stairs as the hotel is a bit of a labyrinth - fine for me, but maybe not for those who are not able bodied. Mattress and sheets were clean and comfortable, but bed frame itself needs tightened up as it moved a lot when I rolled over in bed.
