I really liked the common lounge. It was very comfy and it was a nice place to talk to people. In that way it was always quite in the dormitory so if you wanted to relax nobody was making a phone call there for example. The lounge also had a pool table, some couches, board games and the kitchen had a microwave and other appliciances for guests to use. High Street Hostel had some nice activities organized for each day of the week free of charge. I attended the Wednesday activity which was Scottish Dancing!

The showers and toilets were a bit small and there were only two of them at my floor.

Location was very convenient, everything was a short walking distance away, which gave me a lot more time for exploring the city. The staff was very helpfull and nice to us. There was a very nice social space with a few music instruments, pc games and table games, billiard and a small smoking terrace - great for meeting other people and just hanging around. Also, hot water was running at all times, which is sometimes hard to come by in other hostels, when there’s so much people at one place.

The rooms could use some improvement, even though you sleep at a hostel, having privacy, even if it’s just curtains around your bed, is becoming a standard around the world so some renovation of sleeping spaces would be nice.

The location was excellent, literally 6 minutes from the station and on the high street. The rooms are nice, clean, and with spacious lockers. Staff is nice and friendly. Free luggage storage on the day of the checkout out. They accommodated my request of swapping beds as I couldn't climb to get to the top bed. The toilet and bathroom are well maintained and CLEAN, with hot water running at all times without issues. The kitchen is spacious, and the communal areas are nice and cosy.

The mattress was too hard and had weird shapes. One of the sinks in the toilet was clogged (we stayed 2 nights, and it has been for the whole of our stay).

I like the location the closeness to the Royal Mile was excellent. Community was great too. I liked that there was a chance to book just Girl dorm.

Was hard in the kitchen to get a space in the fridge. Because there quite a lot people staying. There were many volunteering so cleanness was fine at that time. But I guess it could change from who is cleaning and kitchen was closed until 7am. For an early bird having my own breakfast or if you must leave early you have to consider that. But I would rate definitively a 9 or more.

Great lounge area, very comfortable to work and chill out. It's in a great location, and the let you leave your bags before and after check-in. Simple breakfast is available for 3 pounds which is much cheaper than other hostels in the country. I think there is a big group of volunteers living in the hostel, so the environment is very friendly and they keep everything very clean for hostels standards.

Showers could have some surface for you to put your stuff on while you are showering. The bathroom was OK for a hostel, but don't expect more than just clean. The room had a little smell, but that was just one of the guests who decided to put his socks to dry.

The location is excellent, Hostel is situated in the old town, few minutes walking to many of the touristic attractions, 2 minutes walking from Cow gate, where people go out, few minutes walking to Grassmarket, where you can have an excellent coffee and where are restaurants (it's a valley, where there is sun). 2-3 minutes walking to a supermarket (express) and 5-6 minutes from two big supermarkets. The room was OK, there are lockers (for every bed) with key. The bed was comfortable and with soft and newer linen (not rinsed). The heating was on, although it was not (so) cold. The dining room is big enough and there is a snooker pool.

The room is on the 7th floor (counting from the reception floor, on the 4th floor; and from the kitchen floor, on the 5th floor), but there is no lift. To many rooms share one bathroom (whole floor - 7-8 rooms) and bathroom has only two shower cabins, two sinks and two toilets. In the kitchen during the breakfast there is no enough cups (mugs).

From the moment I stepped through the door, all the staff were super-friendly and welcoming. Whenever I came to them with doubts they were really helpful and able to point me in the right direction. They organise events most nights and there's a large common room ad kitchen for all guests to enjoy. (I forgot to bring a towel with me and was able to rent/hire one in reception. So bonus points for that! Thanks!) Situated in a great location and would love to return the next time I'm in Edinburgh. Highly recommended

Great place, perfect localization, awesome vibe and great staff! Next to each bed there was a small lamp and a socket with a USB port so I didn't even need to use my adapter! If (or rather when) I come back to Edinburgh, I'll stay here again!

Bathrooms were clean but maybe not the cleanest, but perhaps it's other guest's fault (some people simply don't know how to keep spaces clean). Whenever the door closed, it was pretty loud, so people coming in and out of the room made quite a lot of noise especially at night.

It had lots of events like the pub crawl every Thursday, games night on Saturday and themed movie nights. The volunteers are really friendly. Big shout out to Meave, Erin, Michael, Sijad, Alex, Dennis, Mustafa, Hayley, Lewis and Callum, as well as the rest of the team! I really had an amazing time with everyone! There's a great shared area to play pool. You can also cook your own meals in the kitchen and there are multiple fridges. The smoking area is also very clean and it's a great social hangout! The facilities were also very clean. The volunteers also provide snacks and little things to make the events even better.

One of my bottles of cheap wine was stolen on the night of the pub crawl so it's just something that can happen on that night and to be wary of it! I hope they enjoyed it, there's no hard feelings just wish they had brought it out to the common lounge area to share!

Rooms & common spaces were clean but unfortunately toilets and shower rooms had overflowing trashcans, dirty sinks and lavatories. I understand the reason there might be many guests using those.
