What a great place. The room was smaller than I expected but that's my fault for not looking properly when I booked. Larger rooms are available. We stayed for 3 nights and I don't travel light. The room was very comfortable with big white fluffy towels and was very clean. There were tea and coffee available in the room along with fresh water. On the landing each morning, fresh pastries fruit and cereal were laid out with milk fruit juices and yoghurt in a fridge for you to help yourself and take back to your room. The owner, Ben, and his staff were very friendly and offered lots of local knowledge as well as great conversation. The Balerno Inn also has a restaurant and bar, we were not pressured into eating there, but we did and were not disappointed. The food is very very good and the restaurant and bar area had a great atmosphere. I would highly recommend the roast beef dinner on a Sunday it was amazing, although a vegetarian roast dinner on the menu would have been appreciated as my partner is a vegetarian. The Balerno Inn is situated in a lovely village with very good bus links into the city of Edinburgh, which was the purpose of our stay. If I had to mark the Balerno Inn out of 10 I would give it 20. We will definitely return for future visits.

Small hotel with friendly, welcoming staff, good sized comfortable rooms, great shower. Easy access to Edinburgh by bus, every 20mins (stop literally 2min walk & saved taking the car). Good selection of food & drinks on offer in bar area.

Room was right outside kitchen area, so quite noisy at times. Good selection offered for cold breakfast, just not used to eating in the room, (knew this was the case before booking from other reviews). Wouldn't put us off booking again tho!

lovely building and room. lots of character. the food and service was exceptional in the restaurant.

The breakfast was terrible!!! it was simply a few croissants laid out the night before and left to go stale, with a selection of kids cereal boxes and a banana. You eat back at your room but with no table to eat from and so no choice but to eat in the bed. this was a real disappointment and such a surprise given how amazing the food and restaurant is in the evening.

It was a lovely room, tastefully decorated and very clean. The bathroom was great, especially the shower. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was a quiet area with a few local shops and bus stop close by to Edinburgh. The inn itself was very good with excellent food.

We booked the smallest room for 4 nights but there was no appropriate storage for clothes such as drawers, shelving or wardrobe. There were a couple of hangers but there were just above a kettle and free standing mirror so not enough space to hang anything. You take breakfast to your room but it meant eating on the bed. If we booked here again for more than one night we would definitely book one of the larger rooms. To the inn I would recommend changing the bedside tables for ones with shelving or drawers and a hairdryer would have been wonderful, I really missed having one.

Nice room, lovely village, self-service continental breakfast was an unexpected bonus. The staff were friendly and helpful, and whilst we didn’t sample the restaurant the menu looked lovely. Free parking available around the corner too.

Whilst the village was lovely it is quite a way outside of Edinburgh, and the buses aren’t very frequent. No reflection on the property itself, just something to note if Edinburgh is your aim.

A gem. Super helpful, professional and attentive staff. They literally went the extra mile. Accommodation had every thing you could need. Beautifully decorated, clean and very comfortable bed. I loved the grab and go breakfast. Lovely atmosphere in the bar/dining room and the food was delicious. Fab location, very quiet but very close (2 minute walk) from a main bus route to the city of Edinburgh. I would thoroughly recommend this small hotel.

There was nothing I didn’t like. Just a tiny suggestion would be that the bedroom could do with a bin for rubbish, but that really is all I can think of.

We really enjoyed the quiet location a short distance away from the busy Metro of Edinburgh. The Inn has a lovely pub on the ground floor, and the food was excellent. Our room was very clean, recently renovated, and nicely yet simply furnished.

There is no lift, so moving luggage up the stairs is slightly unpleasant. The parking was fairly close, but technically not on-site. There was not much to dislike about the Balerno Inn.

The staff are friendly and accomodating, I highly recommend this place to stay especially with family. My boyfriend celebrate his bday in Balerno Inn he was so happy with impeccable service. It was a great experience and so grateful by the warm welcome of them, they arranged the cakes and balloons and make sure when we arrived everything was ready for a surprise! And our room was exceptional & spotlessly clean thanks for upgrading our room! The food is so delicious and outstanding! Plus the drinks and dessert is a must!! You dont need to go anywhere else as below they cater all the superb most scottish food! I love the vibes of the place with the cheerful staff around! This is my first time in Scotland and living in a sandpit country is way different...Im so glad to find this place and will definitely comeback!

it was in a good location, 20 mins train journey to Edinburgh and the village was nice. The staff were really lovely and super helpful.

The room wasn’t suitable for working in (it didn’t have a desk or a chair). Breakfast was a bit awkward as you have to eat it in the room, in our case sitting on the bed. The breakfast was nice but on our second day we woke up a little late (0830) and all the nice food had gone.

the rooms were very lovely with high ceilings, very clean. the bathroom was big and the shower was great. the staff were so so accommodating and we had a breakfast put outside our rooms in the morning. The food in the evening in the restaurant is also a must if staying!

it was not the properties fault. but booking.com did not specify that if you need an extra bed in the ‘double room with an extra bed’ you need to make them aware before. unfortunately we had two people who needed separate beds. However, the staff went above and beyond to rectify this when we arrived!
