After suffering a great loss, i needed somewhere where I could look out over nature and feel peaceful. This location was exactly what I needed. We were fortunate to have a room right on the river, I'd open my window and see the baby ducks, swans and the young cows come down to the pond to drink and paddle. beautiful terrace overlooking fields. in the evening its easy to walk into town, or have a nice meal served inside or outside by the river. We had a nice candle lit corner table for 2, which was perfect. Wine and food an drinks were very reasonable. Great breakfast Sonya, your a star, hard working and friendly **

more staff, i did feel sorry for the staff as they were rushed off their feet. Not quite sure what happened with the app to order drinks, after waiting at our table for around 20 minutes, my husband had to go down to the bar to fetch our drinks twice. It was looking a bit tired, threadbare carpet along the walkway, dirty marks on the walls in places, BUT, it was getting towards the end of the season.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and like the location and outlook. We also love the dining room and the meals are good value for money

Last time we stayed, we enjoyed a 'specials' menu. However, this was not available this time. Furthermore, I have been charged for 2 rooms instead of one and am currently trying to get a refund. There was an error to my booking which I noticed straight away and contacted the hotel who assured me the matter had been resolved. Despite further phone calls and emails and drawing this to the attention of the receptionist, I have still been overcharged.

The location was lovely, right on the riverside. The history and the fact they had retained the water wheel inside the bar/restaurant area.

There were no parking spaces available when we arrived. Parking at the hotel cannot be guaranteed. Had to wait for people to leave the bar areas before we could find a parking spot. When we asked reception if they had any suggestions where we could park we were told that even thought we had requested parking, this could not be guaranteed and we would have to find somewhere on the surrounding streets, which were nearly all double yellow lines.

Breakfast was excellent. Plenty of choices, regular top ups of food from staff Beautiful meadows to walk off the Breakfast Lovely terrace bar to watch the sunset on pastures.

In our room, our TV had no signal. We mentioned this and they sent someone to fix this.( I had to run down,no phone in room)However this only lasted ten minutes. We hadn't planned to come away to watch TV, but this should be working for anyone who needed to watch it for the News, or music etc, especially in a 4 star hotel. Maybe it was the old building needing attention. Shower runners were heavily corroded.

The setting of the hotel is perfect. Staff were all friendly and the food was good. Lovely relaxing atmosphere. Comfortable beds and furniture. A good supply of hot water with good water pressure. We would probably revisit.

Our bathroom door would not close. The windows, carpets (in the public walkways) and external paintwork could do with cleaning. Limited menu was available on Saturday, which was lacking in choices. TV and Wifi signal was not great. A fan was provided, but I’m glad we brought our own as it was a very hot room. The building just needs a bit of updating and TLC.

A beautiful and intresting building in a lovely location. Great food in the restaurant and for breakfast. The real stars of the show were the staff, every single one of whom was polite, helpful, down to earth and friendly. There was an idiot customer being loud and abusive to the bar staff and manager while we were waiting to order drinks, and the way the staff dealt with this stressful situation was first class.

The room needed a little work, the window didn't stay open on it's own and the TV remote only worked if it was basically next to the TV.

1. lovely staff 2 lovely situation opposite water meadows with working mill wheel incorporated into hotel. 3. well placed geographically for us to visit loads of interesting and beautiful places in Suffolk

The advent of a coach party three days into our stay. This meant the other guests were expected to either eat v early or much later so that the kitchen could cope with meals for coach party. The receptionist kindly arranged for us to come down at 7 pm(our preferred time as it fitted in with our evening plans). However, each evening when we did this we were told we would have to wait for at least 20 minutes. The first time it was actually 45 minutes. Subsequently when we said we weren’t happy with the wait staff did try to accommodate us, but we had to protest about it which was not something we needed on our holiday. Essentially we felt that the other guests came second place to the coach party and that this wasn’t fair.

The welcome after a long journey. The position of the room on the ground floor as we had 2 dogs with us, it was nice to be able to get out onto the meadows.. The staff were all very friendly. Breakfasts were good as were the evening meals.

The room was very small and somewhat tired. Time for a refurbish I think. We wanted to book Sunday lunch for our family. It took 7 emails ,5 phone calls and a visit by my son before we got the booking. In the end there were 12 of us. We had to order the food and pay for it in advance. I understand putting in a detailed order but I have never been asked to pay in advance by any restaurant or hotel before.

I loved the ambience and the staff were wonderful. Everywhere looked and smelled fresh and clean. My second room had a great view over the water meadows and of the river below my window. It was compact but comfortable and had everything I needed as well as being blissfully quiet

Because the hotel does not have a lift, I asked for a room on the lower floors and I was allocated a ground floor room in a cottage. The room itself had the wow factor but it was completely unsuitable. Traffic passed within two feet of my window, cars going past, service vehicles reversing and unloading made it very noisy. Guests going to the car park passed within inches and at times their voices drowned out the sound of the tv. Also, as a senior female travelling alone, I felt very isolated. I don’t think room 359 should be allocated to guests without advance warning of the above. I asked for a transfer which was done very quickly.

Location of my room with view of water meadow. The access to out of doors. The type of building it was (an old mill) with the wheel kept working in the dining and drinking areas and the views of the water meadows from those rooms. Excellent food, must have a good chef, well trained staff. Very clean rooms.

The sad spectacle of the poor dead cat that was discovered under the building in ths 1970's. This was done in olden times to drive evil from the building and the cat may have been alive this was done. A reminder of how cruel we can be.
