Perfect central location. Ideal for those arriving by train. Public areas really well presented. Room was basic but really clean and everything we needed: iron, hairdryer, ironing board, tea/coffee, bathroom well stocked with toiletries etc. Breakfast great, lots of choice. Staff really friendly and helpful, and nothing too much trouble - thank you! (The trees and Christmas decorations were beautiful!)

Bedroom walls are very thin, so we didn’t sleep well at all; a very loud snoring guest in the room next to ours. If you’re driving the parking is limited but other car parks nearby.

the hotel was absolutely stunning! I was celebrating my mum's 50th with her and treated her to a junior suite room. I kindly requested from the hotel just a couple of days before if they could do something for my mum's birthday and they went absolutely above andbeyond! they put happy birthday balloons in the room and put lots of flowers all over the bed! was such a lovely gesture. really enjoyed the room. Breakfast was great as well, with a nice buffet style breakfast with a lot of options. Great clean room and lots of amenities and very centrally located.

small point: lighting in the room was quite low which is not my preference.

Check in was excellent. Excellent customer relations!! We paid for the room and the car parking fees upon arrival. Car park was conveniently located right at the door.

Upon check out we faced an unfriendly front reception personnel who ask us to pay an extra 10 pounds because we were told by him that it was not sufficient. We return to stay at the hotel for our second visit as we pre-booked, on 2 September and we complained about the extra parking charge on our first visit. The front desk said that we should not be paying the extra 10 pounds as we have paid fully upon arrival. Nevertheless we were not refunded the extra 10 pounds for our first visit.

The staff were very friendly and helpful- particularly the lady on reception who gave us a great recommendation for dinner. Room was comfy and mostly quiet (Saturday nights are a little rowdy outside but all settled by 11.30). Location is excellent for transport links and city centre exploring.

The shower in the room could have been cleaner- mould growth and a stained shower tray took away from some of the gleam of the place. The lights in the bathroom were challenging. It was very bright and the double strip of lights in the mirror which couldn't be switched off separately were migraine inducing- the ability to isolate these or just one strip at the top would be more comfortable. There were also minimal lighting options in the room making it difficult to visit the bathroom in the night without Blackpool illuminations.

I know some people find the mattresses too firm, but for me, it was perfect! very comfortable sleep. The hotel is generally very quiet at night (there was a woman having a very vocal fight/screaming competition for about an hour Saturday night, but it's not the hotel's fault that someone can't control their temper or their alcohol intake!). Just across from Exeter Central Station and about two minutes walk from the centre of Exeter itself, the location couldn't be better. Staff was absolutely lovely!

The desk was very narrow! The view from the room was not particular inspiring (a yard with various machinery) (but - I was only in the room to sleep, so I didn't particularly care), and the gulls were waking up around 5 o'clock in the morning - very loudly. I think the posh looks of the entrance of the hotel makes you expect more from the individual rooms.

Very convenient for exploring the centre of Exeter. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was excellent there was plenty of variety. The evening meal in the restaurant was well cooked and reasonably priced. The staff were professional, friendly and helpful.

There were no drawers provided , no desk and only one chair . Instead of being rounded the hand rail in the shower had potentially lethal sharp corners. The blackout curtain for our window had a worn lining which let the sunshine through in places in the morning giving the curtain the appearance of having holes.

Staff were very friendly and could not do enough, they gave us interconnecting rooms although I had forgotten to ask, which was amazingly helpful. Room was spacious and clean and kids beds were comfortable. The hotel is slap bang in the middle of the city centre so within walking distance of everything including the Cathedral and some of the best restaurants.

Bathroom had a few mildew spots, I would have preferred a shower not bathtub. But it was nto a problem there was a shower attached in the bathroom. Parking space is very limited in the hotel car park, but there is paid parking nearby. There really was nothing to complain about,

Fantastic location (as long we you don't have to park there). It was perfect for exploring the city and for eating out, but also coming back to deposit purchases/have a cup of tea/change. Very comfortable rooms. The staff were great. You could fully open the windows, allowing us to actually control the temperature/air flow. Although the rooms are modern, the entrance hall and communal areas were wonderful.

The radiator was stuck on full, but the staff fixed it as soon as we said there was a problem. Didn't find out the number of parking spaces was limited and first come, first served, until a few days before. We made alternative arrangements to remove the stress, although it may have been fine.

The staff were lovely, very helpful and accommodating. The hotel was clean and well presented. Fresh linen, towels and a lovely selection of teas & coffees in our room. The location was fantastic, straight across the road was the rail station (though we didn't hear the trains) and the lovely saxon gardens. And ofcourse it being central, we were seconds away from cafés and other places to eat. As well as the main shopping street, the cathedral it's self was a mere 5 mins stroll away.

The bathroom sink was backed up. I'm sure they would have fixed it if I'd of raised it, but it was time I didn't have. The fold out bed gave me a sore neck as it was lumpy.

The Mercure Exeter Rougemont is just opposite Exeter Central train station, which is ideal for travelling to. I was given a free upgrade with a lovely, much larger room, fridge, coffee machine, and a king-size bed. I didn't spend much time in the room but it was very good size and plenty of space for all my things. The bed was quite soft but comfortable. The bathroom had shampoo and conditioner, handsoap, and body lotion. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind at all times. I would definitely recommend and stay here again.

The bathroom is a bit cramped, and I was happy to only have myself to share that space with as not that much space for toiletries. A proper non-slip mat for the bathtub would be good as it is a shower-over-bath.
