Superb location with a view over the Vale of York to the North Yorkshire Moors on a good day. The room was spacious and the bed really comfortable. We had four nights of excellent sleep. The staff and other guests were all friendly and we enjoyed all our breakfasts and dinners. A highlight was listening to the curlews calling in the village and on the walks recommended by the staff. Coming from York, it was delightful to see swallows and swifts, goldfinches and thrushes and so many hares.

It was a little basic. There was no box of tissues and a limited selection of teas in the room but we were comfortable.

Breakfast was smashing. Used fresh ingredients from the local area. Sausages and black pudding were exceptional. Great location. Splendid and professional staff. Fabulous evening meal, well worth the money. Good range of reasonably priced wines. The Shiraz Rose was grand.

Unfortunately, like the majority of other places around Masham they were unable to open the restaurant throughout the week due to staff shortages. Another consequence of Brexit which wasn’t blazed all over the side of a bus ! Our room was clean but is perhaps looking a bit tired and dated. However, given that last 18 months many establishments are not in a position financially to move forward as they wish.

Food - dinner and breakfast were very good. Mo (Maureen) was really welcoming and helpful -

The room (Nbr 2) was really lovely - quite large, spacious and welcoming. However, I did ask for Superior TWIN and actually the room had Super King - hence ONE bed/bed linen. Fortunate that friend and I were, on this occasion, ok - the weather outside was deteriorating and we didn't want to inconvenience anyone - only ONE staff member (Mo of all trades) on duty!!!! There was no HOT water - running bath and then shower - barely tepid!!! Disappointing as bathroom was not big enough to comfortably do a 'strip' wash instead - no standing space between washbasin and toilet!!!

The location was great with stunning views and only a short 5 minute taxi ride away from Masham. The room was nice with a large bath and underfloor heating. I didn’t hear a peep from anyone else who was staying. Vast selection at breakfast with local produce including the best bacon I’ve eaten! Staff were friendly and attentive during breakfast service

I felt the breakfast, despite being nice and having local produce, was overpriced at £25 for both of us. The mattress wasn’t great and really does need upgrading. Check in at 15:00 seems late to me although this is maybe standard

Everything about our stay was really good. The staff are great, really friendly. The room was much better than we expected unlike most pubs the accommodation is alongside rather than over the pub itself. Food was also great.

The information on booking.com was not up to date when we booed. It stated that children were charged for from age 6, and that no extra beds were available. Neither were true.

Location good nice and peaceful Great food and atmosphere Nice room in the annexe Lovely old pub with open fire and character. Good for camping and caravaners.

No playing cards Although food was excellent the portions could have been larger. The cost of the breakfast was £14 per person so we didn’t bother as this seems extortionate.

The host who welcomed us was absolutely wonderful and had a list of places he recommended we visit whilst in the area. We walked to druids temple which took approx 40 mins, you can drive but I’d recommend the walk! The prices are fab and I was expecting “pub grub” but the food was restaurant level, props to the chef. All of the staff were lovely and can see myself staying again!

We had a lovely overnight stay at this hotel. It’s a 17th century pub with modern out buildings made into rooms that are really nice. They are spacious with a great view and en suite. We had breakfast and evening meal and both meals were ‘excellent pub grub’. Staff were friendly and helpful. We have been before around 7 years ago and will definitely return and highly recommend.

Really friendly staff, great location if you want something quite. Food was absolutely delicious!! Me and my partner both had the Sunday Roast and it was the best dinner we've had for quite some time. Breakfast was also delicious. Unfortunately my daughter started with a bug (unrelated to the The Black Swan, wasn't the food) and was sick all over the floor through the night, which I managed to clean up with towels and water. When I explained the next morning the girl who was working at breakfast was really friendly and kind about it, told us not to worry at all and gave us some plastic bags for our journey home just in case. Would definitely go back.

Absolutely first class food (breakfast and dinner) and friendly, helpful service. Front of house Scott met us on arrival and escorted us to our room no 11, lower ground floor. Car parking nearby. TV, beverages tray in situ, hand soap in bathroom. Chef Steve talked us through evening meal options as one of us is vegetarian, with plenty of choice. Delicious pre-booked sea bass and arancini. You won't be disappointed. Beckoning tables in the outside grassed garden to have a pre-dinner drink (good selection) in the sunshine we were lucky to enjoy! All in all, a wonderful break.

Unfortunately the uncomfortable (springs coming through) mattress in our room needs replacing so did not sleep well. Reported to Scott the next day so it could be dealt with for future guests, otherwise OK. I was fortunate to be shown alternative superior rooms (which were not available when I booked) by another guest who had been told some were undergoing upgrades so am anticipating our bathroom would be on the list as a little dated but perfectly functional.
