The hotel and location are fantastic, plenty to see and activities to do in the area or at the hotel itself. Breakfast’s were the best we have ever had and we have been travelling internationally for 4 years in is our fourth trip to England.

Maybe the questioning of not tipping at the end of our stay. In Australia it’s not expected, although it is more common now. We would only tip for exceptional well beyond what would be expected and being paid for that person(s) service. So if the service is great, which it was, but the prices are also in the top bracket of what you are paying, we believe we have paid the correct amount. Our expectations matched our experiences but not to give additional tips. My wife was surprised to have even been asked. It was “the” only thing that was a negative. If it happened a second time we wouldn’t return again.

The Baron room in the coach house block was beautifully refurbished, very comfortable. Great bathroom and shower. Dinner in the Terrace was exceptionally good, we had a number of the small plates, all delicious. Great massage in the spa.

Too hot in the rooms and restaurant, I think we have all got used to cooler homes and this was very hot. Was able to turn the radiator off however. Everything was extra, booking through booking.com was room only, dinner extra, spa entrance extra, treatment extra breakfast extra. Came to £600 for a night which is too much.

Superb stay for my wife's birthday. The whole place is wow! It has an old-fashioned charm, but with very up-to-date facilities. Our room was incredible - huge with a lovely big bathroom and shower, very comfortable bed and huge windows with a lovely view. There was no noise from anywhere inside or outside of the hotel overnight which was great. Breakfast was excellent with a huge range on the buffet; we didn't actually order any cooked food. We also had a lovely afternoon tea. We did lots of lovely walks around the parkland, went wild swimming and spent 3 hours in the spa which was absolutely fantastic (the car park at the spa looked busy, but it felt quiet inside) - loved the indoor pool, natural pool and hydrotherapy pool as well as the steam rooms and saunas - there were also lots of areas to relax in and the changing rooms were immaculate. We had a drink in the Terrace Bar which was lovely - we just wish it had been warm enough to sit outside as it was a beautiful space. The staff are all lovely and very helpful. it was a bonus for us to have plenty of EV charging on site which was very easy to access and use.

Firstly book direct do not use Booking.com as you will not get access to the spa area included! Been here several times still has a feeling of grandeur lovely grounds to wander around and amazing spa, the salt steam room was a favourite. The cinema room has lots of board games, chess and billiards and the drawing rooms are very stately and comfortable with fresh flowers daily from the gardens. We stayed in one of the new rooms across from the main building below the clock tower which was very sumptuous under floor heating and a butlers pantry with complimentary snacks. Good buffet breakfast extra £22. Enjoyed an AF gin in the bar and bought a bottle from the shop, the toiletries are also available to buy with a 10% discount. I took a wild swim in the lake which is a new addition and the staff were very polite and obliging throughout our stay

Thermometer missing from wild swimming lake. Bar prices differed on the drinks list to the bar where they were 30% more expensive and the bar staff seemed inexperienced she actually said it wasn’t her normal role she was just covering and there is no real atmosphere in the bar but that is okay if you want a quiet civilised drink and read. Samuels restaurant menu looked expensive £38 for pigeon so we ate at a pub in Masham

Spa - great but now they are thinking of additional charges for hotel guests/those using cottages this will make us think twice about rebooking Food was excellent but expensive. Wine also excellent but expensive. Good location Complimentary events should be advertised to those staying in cottages also e.g. by leaflets through the door

Hotel plans to start charging for use of spa - which is a shame and may deter some guests from rebooking Although full time access to spa advertised most guests were restricted to one hour per day Children swimming times restricted to early or late afternoon but none during the day or mid morning Tried to levy 5% "discretionary" service charge although we had already paid in advance. Hotel receptionist could almost be considered rude Information and check in sent very last minute and would have been missed had we been travelling in advance of stay Hotel forgets that not everyone has a phone that receives emails

The whole experience was good, bedroom, bathroom, dining, public areas all very good. We attended a private function and stayed an extra night to enjoy the falconry and afternoon tea. The falconry was fabulous. Mandy the falconer was brilliant and so were Ellie and Neeka the owls we flew.

We only had choice of one restaurant which had limited menu but what we did have was good quality. The room service was a little disappointing as our tray was left for 24 hours before being collected despite the room having been serviced by cleaning staff in the morning and 2 requests made by us for it to be cleared. Also the milk in the room had not been refreshed and we had to ring for fresh milk at 9.30pm. However, the very helpful lady on Reception sorted it out & bought up fresh milk herself.

Great room with lots of space, comfortable bed, and well furnished. The grounds are extensive with lots of optional activities available and the surrounding area offers lots to enjoy. Staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely visit again.

Although most people would enjoy the breakfast on offer we are not big eaters and found £22 a lot for our toast and coffee. When we visit again we will use the nearby eateries.

We stayed 4 nights. Great facilities. Our room was spacious as was our bathroom. The latter being a real bonus. Loved the fact there was ice in our room without the need to ask. Both restaurants had very good & delicious food. The Terrace restaurant is highly recommended. We had dinner on our last night there & it was fabulous. Staff courteous at all times. The grounds were very calming & well kept. Definitely will return & will recommend to friends.

Staff were very helpful. We encountered a few hiccups with room keys and then locker keys in the Spa not working for us. Without us complaining or asking, the staff arranged for complimentary drinks and we were not charged for breakfast the following day.

I wasn’t completely happy that the room (in our case) along with a number of rooms was separate from the main hotel, and again from the Spa, and the Terrace Restaurant where we ate. it meant dressing for the weather and taking an umbrella again the storm raging. not a big deal. the room was lovely.

Beautiful building in a wonderful estate. Breakfast and dinner (at The Terrace) were very good. At reception, we were given a short tour of the premises with some history. Nice.

Rooms were stuffy and hot and difficult to aerate due to vines (insects) and housemartins nests (bird droppings). Couldn't get a scone in the afternoon as the kitchen was not able to cope. Would have expected a walk-in shower and not just a bath in this price category.
