Unfortunately we didn’t get to stay in the Malthouse as renovations were being under taken post fire, but the rooms they put use in where clean, tidy, and good. We ate at the Swan and the meals where very good and drinks as expected. The outside area in front of the Malthouse was setup with an outside bar and pizza ovens. The food here was good along with the drinks. Unfortunately the weekend we stayed there was obviously no live bands but a DJ playing. The staff were brilliant so accommodating and helpful, even to getting our motorbikes in a secure area which was much appreciated.

Renovations but couldn’t be helped

The village is simply beautiful with a few different pubs and cute little shops and a cracking chippy! The MaltHouse is huge with a lovely outdoor beer garden and an inside stage area where we enjoyed watching a covers band on the sat night, drinks reasonable 2 bottles of kopperburg just over £10. Check in very easy and the girl then took us to our room which was actually next door. My daughter and I were in the Garden Suite and it was lovely with a fab bathroom with free standing bath!!! She told us thru that door you have a little terrace if you want to smoke or whatever, "little terrace" omg it went up to another level that backed into woods, simply stunning. It was well stocked with tea/coffee AND decent sized cups instead of usual tiny cups given in rooms, I had trainers on with very chunky souls and although it looked old I could still feel the pile of that carpet under my trainers. I haven't given full marks because as has been mentioned in some other reviews it did look a little dated the wardrobe, table, decor and their was a slight foisty odour but this still didn't take away from the whole experience of staying here and I would highly recommend. We'd come for comic con Wales on the sun and Telford International centre was only 12 mins away in taxi (£11.10) and they arrived within 10 mins of calling and text u they're on way and again when they're here! This only cost me £75 plus £22.20 for taxi their and to the centre following day £97.20 total as a pose to paying the ridiculously priced over £200 for Travelodge and Premier Inn who'd clearly jacked their prices up because of comic con weekend and they had nowhere near the picturesque view that we got by staying at The MaltHouse, I DO give a 10 for the full overall experience!!

Very little, could just do with a refurb in the rooms but not so much to take away from the quaintness and this I feel would eliminate that slight foisty odour.

Staff were courteous and helpful any time of day. The cleanliness of our room was very good and bedding and towels were pristine. There were tea/coffee making facilities but no biscuits so take your own if you like a sweet treat with your beverage. The staff also left a 'top-up' of tea bags/coffee and milk on day 2 of our stay which was left in a bag on our door handle. There was an iron/ironing board. At breakfast (which we paid extra for and was a bargain!) there was a really good selection with a number of vegetarian options. They also provided gluten free bread which we required. At night, there was a lovely atmosphere although we were midweek which meant quiet...the location is amazing! It was our first stay here and we would definitely stay again. We ate there one night and there is a good selection to choose from and our meal was good. We also ate at the 'sister' hotel on one of our nights and that was really good! There is no parking other than on the street which is free over-night until parking restrictions start at 8 a.m. (with a 40 minute limited stay) but you can park on the 'sister' hotel (which is yards away) subject to availability. In short, this pub/hotel is worth a visit. Would like to return to experience the weekend 'live music' which was advertised as starting early September.

Minor, minor complaints: In our room there was ONE spotlight in the ceiling at one end of the room (admittedly above the 'vanity' unit)... and the room was dark! As daylight disappeared, we found we had to resort to putting the bathroom light on to cast more light into the main room which we had paid for as a SUPERIOR room. There were even two bedside cabinets but NO lamps...which would have helped immensely. There was no wardrobe as such just a recess with a hanging rail but that was fine! Our room was also ground floor, which meant we couldn't always leave curtains/windows open. During the night the room was quite hot and again windows open was not an option.

The room, cleanliness, location and friendliness.

Only a couple of minor things…. 1. the curtains are very thin and there is a lamp directly outside the window of the gold suite … I believe that this might have been mentioned before because the relevant window had a double curtain up but still it was too bright! A black out blond may help better. 2. a mini fridge would help for people who have certain dietary requirements or medication needs. 3. this didn’t affect me because I was on my own but I thought that I wouldn’t book here if I was with my husband because the bed was a very small double!

Great location, spacious room and private access.

Room could have been a little cleaner. Shower could do with shelf or somewhere to put toiletories. The shower tray was very slippery and if you put the shower on too high the tray filled with water as the drain seemed unable to cope with the volume. There was a private access door to the street thatcould not be locked because the frame was not secured ti the wall.

The room was really comfy and we also had a free upgrade. The breakfast was very satisfying and substantial. The location was great and we also found parking in the sister hotel (the Swan).

On the first night we asked a member of staff about dinner and all that was said is that they are serving until 9pm, we were not informed that we should have booked a table. At about 7pm we asked if we could have a table for two only to be told that the restaurant was fully booked. We were not offered to site outside or wait a while (which we would have as it was a nice evening) this really disappointed us as we then had to find somewhere else which was difficult. The second night there were live music playing but it was so loud you could not even speak. My husband had a problem with the shower in the room as he could not turn it off. There were no locks on the bedroom or bathroom window and our room was located next to a flat roof.

Lovely public house with the most wonderful staff and probably the best food that we have ever eaten. Our room was lovely and big with a roll top bath.

I did ask for a ground floor room on my booking as a I am disabled. However we had the room right at the top of the property meaning many stairs to climb. This was extremely difficult and we were there for several days. I have never slept in such an uncomfortable bed and we had to take turns sleeping in the single bed!!! The whole place was in desperate need or a really good dust. Wasn’t dirty, just really dusty.

Excellent food both breakfasts and evening meal. The Sunday staff boys were great and always polite and cheerful even though they were quite clearly rushed off their feet due to staff shortage.

Bathroom floor tiles had grout missing and I caught my toes on the edges . Only a small paper like cut but if a child caught their foot it could be worse . And I couldn't regulate the temperature of water in shower so very very hot.

Lovely room, we stayed in the Lounge Suite which is in the building next door. The room was spacious and light and despite the evening entertainment at The Malthouse and the main road, relatively quiet. Great breakfast for a little extra. We managed to park in the car park between The Malthouse and The Swan as we were told when we arrived but there are only a handful of spaces and the only other option is the Gorge Museum car park which isn’t far, a short walk but not ideal with luggage. We fell lucky. Great location, 2 minute walk to shops and restaurants although the village is tiny but also adorable.

The 2 pubs became very lively after 7pm, not usually a problem but the music/clientele could appear intimidating. Although we weren’t kept awake when going to bed, there was a lot of noise past 11pm (drunken shouting, breaking glass etc). We were also greeted by broken glass and vomit in the street in the morning.
