Comfortable room; great location for St Cuthbert's Way, evening meal available, friendly staff.

Rooms appear to be all doubles and room rates are high for the area, making this an expensive stay for a solo hiker. However, not much else available. It would be good with the trend to increasing numbers of solo travellers if more single rooms or better rates were made available.

Had a fabulous stay at Templehall Hotel. The hotel was fabulous, our Superior Double Room was spotless, spacious & very elegantly decorated. Staff went the extra mile, a special mention for Kerry, to make sure your stay went smoothly. They organised our taxi to the races even though we had left it very late to book. The breakfast was very good with a very high standard of produce. The residents only area where you could enjoy a drink, a great concept that has been well thought out. Thanks again & we WILL be back!!!

Superb location in lovely little village and wonderful countryside. Ideal for those doing the St Cuthbert's Way or those looking for a retreat to the countryside. The food was excellent. The local community were very welcoming and friendly. It was great to speak with a retired local shepherd (and his friends) – in the fantastic beer garden – who had worked on the local hills for most of his working life. The accommodation is well appointed and has been attractively modernised to a good standard.

There was nothing I didn't like during my visit. I stayed there on a glorious summer's night. If I was staying there in the winter I think I would prefer to experience a cosier bar area. The beer garden is superb as noted, the dining and bar area is a good size and modern but lacks that intimate feeling you get in cosy country pubs in winter for that evening winter warmer drink and a chance - if you wish - to engage in conversation with a convivial local community.

This was our third stay as we stop off to and from different holiday locations in Scotland. The hotel is superb. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. We eat breakfast and evening meals here and they are great. We travel with 2 dogs so room size is important to us. The rooms are always a good size, clean and comfortable. We are travelling to Scotland next year and will stop here again. There is a large enclosed field at the rear of the hotel so dogs can be let off to exercise. The area is stunning for walks.

We liked everything

Well located for the St Cuthbert's Way walk. Nice comfortable and clean room. Nice dinner and breakfast. Apple crumble dessert to die for!

A little expensive. Suspect due to it's the only hotel for a few miles and on the St Cuthbert's Way. Most expensive of 5 x hotels we booked during our tour of Scotland and England, but the less expensive hotels were equal or slightly better standard.

The customer service was excellent - all four staff with whom we came into contact were so pleasant, friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble! The hotel is very efficiently run, everything is sparkling clean and works well. The bedroom was very comfortable, the outside area and the bar/dining room were lovely and both dinner and breakfast were delicious.

Our bedroom was a little snug, but we already knew that it was a small double.

We loved the deco style and that there were dedicated facilities for walkers such as boot holder plus paper to stuff them, complimentary slippers and a dryer room for clothes. Makes you feel very welcome

Lovely stay, room was lovely and we even had the choice to have breakfast in bed, a rarity with the kids at home! The breakfast was delicious. The owner was lovely, very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend a stay.

Breakfast was excellent, quality of food served extremely good. Hotel staff very helpful, thoughtful and pleasant. I was early down for breakfast and while waiting for my husband was immediately asked if I'd like a cup of tea . 5 rooms only, our room was possibly the smallest and we'd ask for a larger next time, but it was nicely decorated and clean.
