Best scrambled egg I have had for ages for breakfast. Only one vegetarian main course option so I had 2 starters. The lemon posset was delicious and I did enjoy the garlic mushrooms.
No parking. The directions were to park in the square but there was no room, so I had to park in the church car park, which apparently they aren’t very keen on. So I dashed out after my dinner when some spaces had appeared in the square and moved my car. This meant I wasn’t able to have a drink with my dinner. Also the batteries in the remote control for the tv were flat, but the chef came out and got me some new ones.

The lodge was small and compact but with firat class facilities. The lodge was neat and clean and tidy. I found out during our stay that if we wanted to use the telescopes in the observatory then we must book a stay inside the observatory itself because that also is a sleeping lodge. So I will do that next time we go there. Both nights of our stay were completely clouded over, so we got no chance to do any astronomical observing during our stay. The Poltimore Inn is on the edge of The Exmoor National Park, which is a protected dark sky reserve within the UK. Unfortunately I had no opportunity to test this or to see for myself these really dark and light pollution free skies because the weather was so bad, both day and night. We did not get to meet the owner of the Observatory, just the chef and bar staff and the waitresses who were really kind and courteous to us. They couldn't tell us much about the observatory or telescopes inside though. We will have to go back for a longer stay at a better time of the year. We went in March 2024, which coincided with a long period of very cloudy and very wet weather throughout much of the UK. Your best bet is to go in the spring or the autumn. Robert Townsend and Sarah Dixon from light polluted Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
The atrocious and dreadful weather both day and night.

We stayed in the Teasel, it was lovely, the shower was unbelievable! The bed was comfy and big, and the views from the balcony were stunning. Nice and tucked out the way, nice an easy 20 second walk to the bar and restaurant. It was around 30 to 40 minutes from a lot of Sea Side towns which we visited each day, which were all lovely and different. Parking was easy with plenty of spaces out the front of the hotel.
The only fault would be the joined entrance with the lodge next door, being echoey and loud if next door is up and out super early or back late in the evening, and we did wonder if next door could enter our room but forgot to ask, as we both had the ability to lock the main door to the 2x lodges.

We love the location, the lodges are spacious with lovely views, Its quiet peaceful ideal for relaxing. Beds are very comfortable. majority of staff are very helpful and friendly.
very small matters such as, spots of rust on towel rail and toilet roll holder, curtain rail missing hooks. Kettle very basic plastic. Some confusion around breakfast on 1 day, GF breakfast ordered. The waitress then asked if the sausage was ok which contained gluten, when told no she also asked if the may contain gluten hash brown was ok ? The breakfast arrived with no bacon and swimming in grease from the mushroom I had to ask for another plate as my breakfast was sitting on a plate of grease. Waitress happily changed the plate and was polite and friendly. more options for gf desserts are needed, we were told only gf dessert was chocolate brownie

The space, the views the location. Very country side Devon !! The outside areas are very spacious and there is a tepi type gazebo so rain and sitting in the garden isn’t a problem. The pub is very clean and tidy and very well run. The staff were very friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The family room and the twin room cabin in the garden that we used were spacious, clean and the facilities were fine. The evening meals were very nice and the breakfast included in our stay was good, cooked very well and there was plenty to choose from. We would definitely go back.
The bottles of wine could have been a little cheaper

We were really happy with the room size, shower room, very comfortable bed and that everything was so freshly cleaned . The pub and dinner/ breakfast area are very nice and cosy. The breakfast was really nice with very tasty food, and served with great dedication in a lovely atmosphere. The staff team is amazingly friendly and helpful, they make you feel at home.
Windows are double glaze but didn't seal correctly, a bit of draft was coming through. That was not a big deal as our stay was in August. The coffee in the breakfast wasn't good, very watery.

Very friendly staff. Good food. Pool table and darts board were a good addition. Great views from the garden and restaurant. Good value for money. We were given a late check out free of charge (it depends on availability), which was a nice touch.
Rooms above the pub were a little basic, but perfectly fine for the price. Rooms above the pub were noisy at night, but it's a pub so that has to be expected and it didn't bother us too much. The rooms in the separate buildings at the back were nice and peaceful. The food was good, but some of the options weren't available. Not a big deal though.

Amazing Chalets in the gardens of this lovely pub which are extremely comfortable and well appointed. We have stayed on several occasions and used these Chalets as well as rooms in the pub itself. Breakfast is fabulous and the friendly staff can't do enough to help you
The criticism about parking on the reviews - its obvious that there is no parking in the pub grounds there is no access and no space and its on a steep hill - but there is ample parking in the village square opposite the pub which is closer than a standard hotel car park would be!

The lodges and the fact that dogs were very welcome.
Booking.com offering a good price for an upgrade. We expected a better lodge for the upgrade, however the room we upgraded to was totally unsuitable, fortunately we were able to downgrade to a better option! We ate in the restaurant both nights .My choices didn't disappointed, however the steaks my friends ordered were of poor quality and overcooked. We sent one back, but didn't have the heart to return the inedible venison and wrapped it up for our dogs . The setting and staff were wonderful. Some of the locals drinking In the pub left a lot to be desired, so much so that I couldn't face breakfast on the second morning.

The accommodation was brilliant. Lodges set out with space and everything required. Beautiful view over fields at the back. Bed very comfortable, breakfast excellent. Dark skies all around made for beautiful starry nights. Lots of wildlife around too.
Wish I had known that there was a lodge next door with large window overlooking the beautiful view - when I booked, that wasn't really obvious. Having said that we didn't spend that much time in the accommodation anyway as we had good weather and went to beach and did some walking. Extractor and toothbrush charger not working in bathroom, so might need fuse replacement. Didn't bother us though, left the lodge to air while we were out.
