Breakfast was an enjoyable experience with a menu to suit every taste. The historic building (1699) would appeal to anyone with a feeling for Scotland's history, but inside it has been tastefully modernised with due regard for comfort and safety. The hotel has an ethos of recycling and sustainability. The city centre location is within walking distance of shops, the railway station and other attractions.

The view. But that will change when the empty shop across the street is occupied again.

The hotel staff were very friendly and the rooms we booked were clean and comfortable. The location was excellent right in the centre and close to all ammenities.

At breakfast time the food from the cooked buffet was cold. We stayed 2 nights and the toast on the Sunday morning was pre-cooked and put in with the buffet, so was quite soggy and cold. On the Monday morning I asked for some fresh toast to be cooked and my request was accommodated. We only ate dinner on the Sunday evening and selected from the bar menu, the crusty roll that came with the soup was very hard and stale, we requested another roll, but the 2nd roll was the same! However I did have a main course of steak pie which was very nice.

The location was great, and the staff especially in the bar (waitress and chef) were wonderful, I have a lot of dietary issues and they made me feel really well looked after and safe, nothing was too much trouble. I really liked that you have a cloakroom to be able to put luggage in before check in time, this really gave me freedom to enjoy my day.

The bed in my room (310) was really hard, but also angled down at the sides, rather than flat, I suspect through wear and tear so could probably do with replacing. The water pressure on the shower wasn’t great but I know it’s an old building, also the wall paper in my room was peeling in lots of places, and therefore could maybe use some redecorating or tlc.

The story of the hotel - the oldest one in Scotland! It has the vibe and it's just great! I stayed in Salutation Hotel only one night but this was enough to experience how great customer service is. The lady at the reception, her name is Fiona, was super helpful from the moment I checked in. Then she kindly helped me with finding out some location information for me and how to get to particular place. Other members of staff were great too, whilst I had a lovely breakfast and a dinner in the evening. The room was spacious, clean, a bit cold but considering how old is the place, it was ok. I would stay there again for sure.

Good location, clean tidy comfortable room and bed. Very helpful Staff. I would recommend, and will book again. The Bar has screens for sports, the Ireland v Italy and Scotland rugby was on, I was watching the Celtic game in the bar on my laptop, with headphones.

Saturday morning, an extractor fan was running from 07:00 - 11:00. The plumbing in the bathroom was banging all the time. My room was difficult to find with poor signage, I needed to take note that it was in the Almond wing, One of the bar staff showed me to my room on the first night.

I liked the staff, they couldn’t have been more accommodating! I was here for my sisters wedding and everyone was taken care of well and even the strangest of requests was met my friendly staff. I can’t remember the names of the staff however in particular the manager that dealt with the wedding cake, the staff that were helping with the function itself and the girl at reception! You all made the stay that bit better!

I feel as though the decor needs to be updated, it feels very dark in the corridors etc. General wear and tear however that is to be expected with a busy hotel.

Arrived late to the venue and was told that the restaurant had stopped serving food, but they made an exception and prepared an evening meal, which after eight hours of delays, was a very welcome thing. The room was good, plenty of space, good firm bed, good bathroom (including a volume control for the TV inside it). Breakfast was superb, lots of choices, good Haggis (a must when visiting scotland), and a good service. Staff were superb throughout. Interesting history of the guests who've stayed there, including Bowie and the Beatles if you're so inclined.

It's clearly a popular place, and on both nights that I was there, there was a wedding party downstairs. Nothing to be done with that, but it was a little crowded as a result. I don't think it's a thing in general, but things were a little crowded while I was there. Elevator worked, but sometimes needed a bit of a jolt to remember it was supposed to be moving, nothing serious, but niggles.

The location. The hotels history. Comfy beds. Clean rooms.helpful staff. The breakfast room waiting staff were a pleasure to watch. Team work at its best. The Reids dining bar was good athough not well staffed. Having said that the waiting staff that were there were brilliant.

The shower was hot but not adjustable or particularly powerful. The dining room for breakfast was extremely busy. Large amounts of food were cooked and put in the heated areas. On our first morning when we were not in first thing, items like bacon were very dry. The toast, a huge pile not appetising at all.

Walking distance from the train station. Staff were awesome. Its a lovely old hotel with original features in decor with standards and cleanliness kept high. We got a wee free drink with our paid for evening meal as well and a delicious breakfast included in the price!! it was great value and a lovely place to stay and I will visit again hopefully 😀 5 minute walk from twa tams where 2bobrocket where playing so that was perfect for us!!!

We booked a superior suite which was a great size with all that was needed for the night 🌙 pipe work is a little noisy but given the age of the place its expected and tbh its only when the loo is flushed (or someone else's) so mostly during the day. We tried not to flush at night and that saves water so that's OK!!! The view wasn't well anything (219) I don't really know what I expected but we had a low hum of a boiler? Maybe? A wee lovely neighbours window 🪟 and walls and roofs.....a little bit disappointed as it was a superior room but we just drew the curtains and it was very comfortable!!
