Lovely surroundings, spa facilities were good .

We stayed for two nights and we booked in at the Fat Abbott for our evening meals, although we had book our tables on both nights before 8pm they didn't on both nights have the full menus available...on the second night it wasn't a case of a hard choice of what to have but a case of this is all we have left ...takevit or leave it..unbelievable given the fact that it is a very limited menu to begin with! It was quite embarrassing watching other guests arrive to be told such and such wasn't available! Both nights running they had "sold out" of pork chops!!! Goodness me how can you run out of pork chops..the same with the sea bass!!! And it was only just gone 8pm.,absolutely shocking stock management.. Lovely hotel but do yourself a favor an eat somewhere else..

There seemed to be a problem with my booking as I had asked for a triple room but we were given a double room, I let the staff know as the single bed was for my 2 year old son and they got us a cot very quickly. Also, because the booking only came to them for 2 people, there wasn't an extra breakfast, so I was expecting to pay extra, but they said he could eat for no extra charge. Overall, I was very happy with how it was handled. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone staying in that area of York. Considering how hot it was that day, the room was a very comfortable temperature even though I didn't notice any air conditioning.

The hotel is in a great location set in lovely grounds. The spa and attached pub are excellent and the rooms are comfortable and clean, and s as ll of the staff were excellent and very attentive. We had the Sunday dinner in the fat abbot and it was excellent as was the breakfasts which are served in the hotel restaurant.

Our room could do with a bit of tlc, with the patio door very difficult to open, and also other than the door there were no opening windows which was not ideal. Also we stayed for 2 nights and our room was not cleaned after the first night, not really a problem but we had to ask for the tea and coffee to be replenished, and also the shower gel and toilet roll. Although this was disappointing we still enjoyed our stay.

Location, food and spa area. After a bad start it all improved! Housekeeper brilliant ! Sue the waitress was great! The dating receptionist whom made our changes was great! The spa and gym was awesome. The food at the Abbot was outstanding!! We would book again.

The night receptionist never told us about breakfast or where it was to be served. She didn’t mention about the hotel or the facilities or what time breakfast would be. The 1st room was very poor quality with a light hanging off the wall, broken telephone and broken tiles in the bathroom floor (room 54). We insisted to be moved into a room of better quality inline with fee paid. We went into the second room to be welcomed with an unmade bed, dirty room (I’m sure the last guest had just left as the bed was still warm)

The location was superb . Landscaped gardens , quaint buildings and being close to nature. The swimming pool and spa were perfect . The food at the Fat Abbott was amazing. Extremely comfortable bed , in fact, one of the best I've slept in .

I felt the consistent dirty laundry on floors in corridors and in the lift as staff turned the rooms around , was an eyesore. A bottle of drinking water in the room would have been welcomed. There were numerous cobwebs on the ceiling. The lighting was poor in both the bathroom and bedroom , very difficult to see to get made up . The bathroom mirror lights did not work . There seemed to be a shortage of staff generally.

A beautiful building, very comfortable bed, spa was fabulous, good breakfast fresh and lots to choose from, a peaceful get away from it all venue.

Only one thing, I went for a massage and there was makeup from the previous person on the towel around the head area on the massage table. I just asked for another towel to cover it, it should have been changed in between customers.

The Cloisters spa facilities were really nice, we enjoyed two visits there during our stay. The adjoining Pub The Fat Abbot was a lovely location for a relaxing drink with nice outdoor seating for the lovely weather we had. The Manager and his team were all very friendly attentive & welcoming. Sunday lunch was really good and plentiful. The staff in the main hotel were all very pleasant and helpful.

Unfortunately the bed in our room was quite uncomfortable and suffered from 'roll together '. Luckily we were moved to another room as the curtain rail fell down in our original room! The second bed was more comfortable. The breakfast buffet was nice enough but lacking in variety. Overall the property is showing its age and could probably benefit from some tlc.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times now and will continue to come back as its one of my favourites. Its a beautiful hotel in a lovely location away from the main hustle of the city of York but still close enough to travel too in a fairly short time. The room was spacious and clean. Fan and iron available in the wardrobe. Quality soaps and shower gel etc in the room. Staff were friendly as always. Had an evening meal in the Fat abbot and went down very well. The food there is exceptional and I can be quite fussy with what I eat. Breakfast the following morning was as good as it usually is. Cant beat a fresh cup of proper coffee in the morning with a good English breakfast with quality ingredients not skimping on catering sausages etc. Cant wait to return to this hotel in the future.

A lovely hotel with lots of character set in beautiful well maintained gardens. Great location and delicious food. Lots of choice for breakfast in the main hotel and very attentive staff. Evening meal in The Fat Abbott pub was of a high standard and absolutely delicious. Again lots of choice on the menu.

Our room was comfortable but somewhat dark so we needed the light on during the day. Extra lighting above the mirror in the bathroom would have been helpful too. We could have done with a small fridge in the room as the weather was extremely hot during our stay.

We loved the spa and the breakfast was awesome! And great breakfast staff Comfortable beds too and sufficient provisions in our room. Such fluffy bath towels we wanted to take them home.

Caution with the hot tap in the bath, I 100% burnt my toe. It's old build so temp isn't restricted. Rooms maybe a bit of pot luck, ours was pleasant. There were late night wedding parties there though so not a quite stay at all. Reception staff were a little robotic but polite, when an issue was informed it was a bit oh thats a shame, thank you, 👋 . Spa staff were interesting and we were pointed in a direction 😂 no treatments offered, discussed or any health warnings or questionnaires.
