Beautiful hotel.......huge bedroom.......very friendly and helpful staff.......very comfortable enormous bed......stunning location.....nice pub for food within walking distance.

Breakfast could have been better.......the sausage's were strange......bacon not great.....no jam or marmalade......not much variety of cereal on the Friday morning but better on Saturday......otherwise ok.

Charming house and gardens offering a relaxed and comfortable stay - a welcome change from corporate uniformity. Service was outstanding - attentive, warm and efficient.

It was a traditional hotel set in a nice location with good parking facilities. However parking was charged at £8.50 per day. Our room was comfortable with a good shower & tea & coffee making facilities. We were greeted by a nice lady on the reception. Breakfast on our first day was good with a choice of dishes and cooked to order. Unfortunately not the same experience on our second day.

On our second day, for some reason breakfast was self service from an area in the dining room. The area was quite small for all the guests to fit into and it became very busy and queues formed. Also there was a male (older) waiter who was shouting orders out to the guests telling them about the self service arrangements. It was not the same relaxed atmosphere and the food not as nice. It seemed like we were in a different hotel! A real shame.

Better than the photos. The room we had was spacious and clean and the shower was super powerful. We had a room that was opposite the small court yard and on a night it was all lit up, really romantic. Would definitely stay again in the future.

Lovely hotel, a standard double room was large and clean apart from the filter above the bath being a bit dusty. The mattress was very soft and the room was very warm. The hotel carpark charges £7.50 per day for parking however just on the street outside is residential parking for free with no restrictions. Car left there all weekend without any problems. If you want to make use of the hotels facilities, including breakfast (extra £10 pp) dining in the evening and the bar, it is a lovely venue and staff are very pleasant. We wanted to make use of what York had to offer and the bus routes and times are so frequent and reliable this was easily achieved. York is full of lovely cafes, restaurants, eateries and pubs. We didn't spend any time at the hotel and therefor we would of been better off spending less on a cheaper place to sleep.

We try and stay here as often as we can - great value for money and bus stop right outside to town if you are going to have a few drinks in york centre - nice lounge in the front of house to relax in ( traditionally furnished ) this was the childhood home of John Barry the musician and more well known for James bond themes - free car park for blue badge holders also - no meals booked but breakfast looked really good - rooms comfy and spotlessly clean - can't wait to get back altho website wouldn't let me book just a single night in September - don't know if this is always the case tho but had to book elsewhere

Actual bar area un inviting - furnished more like a cafe - altho take your drinks in the front lounge of the property to get a more atmospheric experience -

Breakfast was superb and generous with ample space to sit even at busy times and was there for us when we had a very early start. We also liked that the bed we had was big enough for two tall people (along with ceilings doors and passageways in a quaint old building. Fulford has a great pub dining experience on the doorstep but the in house bar snack bakery are also delicious. This is one of the most friendly and hospitable hotels I have stayed in.

No bench to sit to wait for a taxi on. No automatic system for giving a receipt for valuables left at reception. Tiny fixable issues tho.

The location was good - a pleasant 1.5 mile River walk into York City. Rooms were 'tired' but clean and comfortable. Gardens were lovely to sit in. A reasonable breakfast and very friendly polite staff.Excellent pub nearby for meals.I would use again if I return to York.

Sited on a busy road , although unable to hear at night. Music from the bar was loud at night - but it was 28° and all windows were open ! It all needs a good freshen up - corridors and staircases etc are clean but look tired. Our loo seat was precarious ,the flush was difficult and the shower curtain made me grimace a bit !

It was clean and the location was good for us with a lovely river walk into the city.

We booked an apartment owned by the hotel. It was fine and clean apart from the tea towel left washed and pressed in the kitchen which was filthy from ground in dirt. Should have been thrown away ages ago. Some staff did not have customer service experience. You walk in, no acknowledgement no greeting, complete ignorance. This was a waiter at breakfast on 16.6. I didn't get his name. So rude. Not the nice guy with the lisp and glasses. He was lovely.

Pleasant room with view over the courtyard. Staff member called Nick was exceptionally good.

Noise from next door bathroom. No spoons to stir a cup of coffee. When I went for breakfast a staff member ignored me and talked to a couple waiting behind me instead.
