We liked that it was a little bit out of the main city. There is a good car park at back of the inn along with a nice garden. Our room was lovely and had all we needed even toiletries. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was lots of choice on the menu and catered for all needs.veggies.Gluten etc and we sampled the food on both nights we were there and it was great, (do book a table as gets busy even if staying)the locals use it so says it all.The inn is on a main road and gets busy but it quitens down so you can get some sleep. There is a bus stop outside for those who wish to leave there cars behind and bus into centre a bonus. There is separate entrance to your rooms key provided so you do not need to go into bar unless you want to.There is stair case up to the rooms on first floor. The breakfast is filling and lots of choice however you start your day,we will stay again if up that way.

The staff were so warm and friendly and so attentive .I cant thank them enough..the FOOD IS TO DIE FOR. SERIOUSLY THE BEST FOOD IVE EVER EATEN. The room was just WOW, Clean, beautifully decorated, clean bedding, pure white soft towels, great en suit bathroom. Excellent relaxing shower xxx ..perfect... The outside seating area was lovely too. Beautiful, warm amazing place. Its a 40min walk into york but if you take the walk via the river down Oswall street its a beautiful stroll with wonderful scenery. Or simply catch a bus right outside.

One little thing, the bed was a little uncomfortable and a bit short for my 6ft hubby. His feet hung out the end.. which i found funny tbh But he curled up and was fine😁 so no big problem. Not worth mentioning really just letting taller people know lol. Im only 4ft 11 so i was fine, although forndcthe mattress a bit hard for me

beautiful old pub with stylish rooms. we loved our stay although the room was on the front by the main road we had a good nights sleep. loved the old style decor in keeping with the age of the property. comfortable bed great shower. tea coffee making area and plenty of milk coffee ect. food in the resturant was simply stunning would struggle to find better pub food anywhere. we ate both nights in the resturant and would highly recommend eating at the plough. saving the best for last the staff all smiling happy and nothing too much trouble. poppy who checked us in and booked us in for dinner. a bundle of effervescent charm and humour. the plough delivered on all fronts. will return again.

nothing perfection.

We enjoyed a 2 night stay over august bank holiday. The hotel and rooms are beautiful decorated and the staff are nice and welcoming. The bus stop outside takes you straight into the city centre and back (even the bus drivers are helpful!). This is the perfect hotel is you want to be outside of the hustle and bustle, but close enough to travel in with ease. The breakfast of a morning was beautiful and all elements were top quality. After enjoying the breakfast so much we booked an evening meal and all 3 courses were top notch! We are already looking for the next time we can stay :)

Nothing! All fabulous

The manager was so welcoming and cheerful Nothing was too much trouble. Outstanding customer service makes all the difference. Ate in restaurant in evening. The meal was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. Walked into York along the river, about 45 mins ( bus stop outside if you didn’t want to walk ) in all - I will book this hotel again next time we visit. This comes from someone who is extremely fussy, I honestly don’t have a bad word to say.

Fantastic location in a quite area outside of the city. Although on a main road it was not noisy, our front room on to the road had no problems, we slept well every night. Room was tastfully decorated and very well equipped, a maid turned the room around every morning with fresh bedding, towels, toiletries and tea/coffee etc, etc. Excellent free WiFi throughout the establishment. Pub was great, food was delicious. Worth noting that the restaurant gets very busy with bookings so even if you are a guest it is advisable that you pre-book a table. Staff were very good, booking in and out was faultless. Very good breakfast selection.

Nothing to really not like. The only minor issue we had with our room was that the shower was so hot it was almost impossible to fully immerse yourself, the control to change the temperature was not functioning. Also our basin took forever to drain away, up to 5 minutes on one occasion. Although reported nothing was done during our 3 day stay. But we managed.

Visited the plough inn for 1 night for valentine's evening. Booked the standard double room. It was a really beautiful room and a great size. The bed was so so comfy and the shower was fantastic. The little bears on the bed and little chocolates on the bed was was such a cute lovely touch. Great options of drinks in the room too. I liked also that the access to the rooms was completely separate to the pub so it made it more private you also didn't hear a peep from the pub which was really surprising considering how busy it was. Breakfast was lovely. The coffee was lovely a frothy. All the staff we met were fantastic and we would happily stay here again.

Only slight negative which isn't really a negative was in the morning there was only the cook and a waitress and bless her she was running ragged ha we was told they were fully booked (valentine's and half term). But she was super lovely and still made the effort to have a chat with us but I think one more staff would've really helped her. But definitely a 5 star stay and we will visit again next year.

A lovely genuine pub both for visitors and locals - a proper pub. Lovely rooms, if a bit on the small size but beautifully appointed. Minimal noise from the main road outside. A good car park at the rear. Genuinely great pub food and selection real ales. Monday nights are quiz night night and are packed with locals and students - great fun. Easy five minute drive into York. Over all a good choice over the more expensive central hotels.

From the moment we arrived, the staff were amazing - helpful and friendly throughout our stay. The rooms are spacious, with lots of character and my husband was particularly fascinated with the teddy bears and chocolates left on the bed each day! We ate in the pub each evening of our stay and apart from one disappointing meal on our last night, I cannot fault the quality of the food served.

As mentioned, the only negative thing about our stay was one of the meals on our last night - I ordered the macaroni cheese and having eaten a few mouthfuls, saw a large amount of olive oil sitting at the bottom of the bowl - it wasn’t particularly appetising and I did mention it to the waitress, who merely agreed that it was a lot of oil. All other meals we ate at the pub were delicious so it’s a shame this one meal didn’t meet expectations.

The room (number 6) was a generous size, was very well furnished, had a lovely comfortable bed/bed linen, and a nice en suite bathroom. We also considered the breakfast service to be very well done and the cooked breakfasts did not disappoint! We also liked the location as it was very easy to walk or bus into town to avoid central York parking and traffic. Despite my minor comments regarding a few small issues we would happily stay again.

We were unable to leave one of the windows open for a breath of fresh air as it was directly above the back door of the inn where the smokers congregated, This was a bit of a pain with the conversations/smoke becoming a little intrusive. We also had a meal on the Sunday evening that was not great as the chips were noticeably undercooked. To be fair our breakfasts were very nice so this is not a criticism of all the catering as everything else was fine.
