The Somerville is a lovely hotel. We came as a party of 3 couples and each couple had an excellent room which had its own character. Everyone was very happy. The somerville has several things going for it which sets it apart. First is the owners , Peter and Helen - from the get-go they make sure you are welcomed , relaxed and helps by providing local knowledge of what and where to go. Second - The location is just a short walk from the harbour but has ample parking. Third - The Decor and Rooms -it is furnished with items made by local artisans . As mentioned, every room has it's own unique character. The rooms are exactly as you would expect from a top flight B&B : clean, tidy, well thought out, excellent tea and coffee facilities and good quality toiletries. Fourth - The Breakfast . Its excellent , made with local produce and cooked to perfection.

A great mixture of quirkiness & luxury, with some fun touches. Very friendly hosts with random amusing anecdotes thrown in! Extremely comfortable bed & lovely shower. Fabulous breakfast of your choice, cooked exactly how you want it, as well as a huge choice of fresh, healthy options. Yummy homemade lemon curd; yummy orange & plum compote. Very pretty, private garden; quiet location, only 15 minute walk to the seafront. Plenty of free parking with CCTV.

It exceeded our expectations in everything including the wonderful breakfast menu. Peter and Helen were brilliant hosts. Very knowledgeable about surrounding areas. There attention to detail is phenomenal. Definitely would stay there again wouldn't go anywhere else. Helen makes wonderful cakes for the guests to help them selves too.

Like to make a great shout out to this amazing little gem of a find. I travelled from Norfolk to Devon for an overnight stay to attend my godmothers 90th birthday. Nothing was too much trouble, allowing me check in early so I could spruce myself after a 6hr drive leaving home at 5am. Then I got the time mixed up for breakfast and turned up late but was given a beautiful table in the window and served. I would recommend this place to everyone and will definetly be my go too when I return - ( hopefully fly next time). Stayed in the garden suite and slept like a baby. Everyone went above and beyond.. What more could you ask for?

Nothing, everything was perfect. And being a perfectionist myself... Hard to please, that should say it all.

The only thing that slightly let the holiday down was the delayed regeneration works around the harbour you were putting your life at risk when manoeuvring around the centre , poor traffic management

The property was in a great location and parking was available which made it the property we wanted to choose to stay as important the car was safe and being a five star establishment was also what we wanted and not many about. The rooms were excellent and the decor. The small items left in the room, like the sun tan lotion, bottled water, sweets and cotton buds was a great touch. The hosts were brilliant, taking good care of everyone and the breakfasts had a great variety. will definitely recommend the place so thank you Peter and Helen for a brilliant stay.

As a regular overseas business traveller I value this stay as exceptional. Owners Peter and Helen were always there to make every guest as special and welcoming. They truly have put their heart and soul to this family business.

All positive experience - I wish there are more such boutique hotels where we could stay and enjoy having a homely feeling and quality all around. Highly recommend for a short break. Breakfast was excellent too.

Everything was amazing! Hosts are super lovely and have got a lot of knowledge about the area, there has been a cake in the afternoon for the guests (thank you Helen!), breakfast had a lot of options and could choose from cooked menu too. The room was nice and clean, with all the little touches and things you might need when on holidays. The location is perfect for exploring the area and only a short walk to the harbour. Spacious car park at the back of the house.

peter and Helen were brilliant host, made to feel welcomed from the first moment you got there, everything was clean and well run, breakfast was great, table service, big shout out to Paul allways smiling and very efficient and Peter on hand to give great tips for days out, and Helen homemade cakes were fantastic in the afternoon in the lovely sunny garden, most definitely staying again here.

Everything from start to finish was wonderful thank you so much for making us and my 9 year old son feel so welcome and kisses from the lovely dog Coco too🐕 The breakfast and choice was AMAZING the best poached eggs I've ever had. The self selection was delishious too well done Helen absolutely wonderful and we left stuffed everyday for us 3 foodies we couldn't of asked for more.. The beds was so comfortable and I struggle sleeping and the cotton sheets was so soft I had a brilliant night's sleep.. We stayed in a room with a joint living room with sofa bed and was lovely for my son to have his own space and TV. Peter was so knowledge about the local area and we fit so much exploring in and was well worth it. Thank you so much Peter, Helen and the wonderful team for making our holiday and my son mason so happy. And for the added little Easter treats And to top it off its got perfect onsite parking ..
