Room 10 in the attic gave us a wonderful view of Winchester. The double bed was OK, a bit bouncy. The room and linen were spotless and the towels and the (very soft) face flannels were changed each day. The washroom/toilet was small but worked OK. The fan to keep the room cool worked well and so did the TV. The double glazing effectively kept out most of any street noise.

A less bouncy mattress would have been preferable. The washroom was too small to provide adequate shelf space for washing gear, etc. but there is little that the management can do about that. The stairs up to the attic are narrow and windy but the bar staff were more than helpful in carrying cases up to the room.

The stay itself is very lovely. The room was great, bathroom clean and modern! The location is perfect for being in the city and parking close by. The pub underneath was a great bonus for us when we needed somewhere to shelter from the rain and watch the world cup final :)

Only things they couldn't really control - we had a long blackout from around 9pm with no signs of electricity coming back for a long time. But they did supply extra blankets incase it got cold. Also people arguing SO loudly, like screaming and banging doors etc, which lead to an alarm going off at about 2am. Not sure what that was about..

Very cozy room. Very good value for the money. Great location. A wonderfully historical pub/hotel appropriate for a historical city.

Nothing really could have been better, but if I were to daydream about future improvements, I would have liked breakfast and longer kitchen hours. There's no lift, but that's how it is with 300-year-old buildings. As I hauled my luggage upstairs I just told myself I was following in the literal footsteps of centuries of other travelers. :-D Room was worth it when I got there.

I liked the location, superb decor and the friendly welcome from staff. We drove to Winchester and found the hotel and nearby parking easily. Traffic was a little heavy but drivers are courteous to each other so the town was easy to navigate . There was a 20 mile an hour speed limit in certain places and there are plenty of digital signs telling you which car parks have spaces. We didn’t eat at the hotel but I’m sure it was nice because the pub looked buzzy and warm and popular. we were spoilt for choice of food and shopping for all types of budgets, in the immediate vicinity. Lots of street food from vendors on offer too. Getting out and about was our aim. Winchester town centre/high street is 3 minutes walk and I didn’t need the car at all. The train station was within close proximity to the hotel. You can travel to nearby Portsmouth within the hour connections to London were easy too. The parking was1 minutes walk away and secure. £15:90 for 24hrs which I did using the RingGo app. So didn’t need to return to the car park, I just got an alert when the parking session was due to expire. The multi-storey car park was across the road and I felt secure leaving my car there It wasn’t a conventional hotel with a reception but I liked that as you immediately felt at home. The bar in the pub was where you go to pick up your room keys. The shower was lovely and spacious with plenty of pressure and hot water. The TV in the room was a smart TV and had some good apps like Netflix and plenty of free channels. The room was well ventilated, had 2 radiators, so nice and warm and an electric fan with a remote control. although the windows were single glazed and the traffic a little noisy, earplugs were available if you wanted them. A lovely clean hotel, with comfy beds and friendly staff.

it’s not much of a moan but we were 3 adults sharing the suite and only two cups were left out for the tea and coffee provided, which was also true of the complimentary bottled water. I like decaf coffee which there was none available. No herbal teas or hot chocolate. I could have let staff know while I was there and I’m sure they would have resolved it immediately with a smile and an apology. to be honest there were so many nice things I feel it’s feed back which could be useful but it didn’t spoil the stay at all😊. if I were going back to Winchester, I would definitely stay there again.

Great location to visit the city centre and historical places of interest. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We didn't eat in the Westgate but the food looked good, the beer was great ! Bearing in mind this is an old building, the stairs to the rooms are very steep and would be challenging for older people and people with disabilities or families with young children and a pushchair. We really liked our stay at the Westgate and would stay again.

The mattress was a bit springy and maybe due for a change.

Great location, lovely clean and comfortable room. Nice views. Free fast wifi was really good (~20mbps). The breakfast was really nice. Parking (public multi-storey at Tower Street) was very close and convenient.

Not really a complaint, but we weren’t given a choice of breakfast. We waited quite a while with no idea what was happening and then a full English just appeared without anyone speaking to us. It was delicious but just felt strange not to be asked. The same happened to another group sat near to us and they said exactly the same thing. A little more communication would’ve been good.

Friendly staff. Nice toiletries. Extra teabags on request. Crisp, white bedding. Very close to amenities, easy walk to town and out to the military museums. Room 4 is at the rear so no road noise.

Only serve breakfast at the weekend. Room 4: No plug in the basin. Better lighting needed near a mirror for doing makeup. No two pin shaver socket. Needs a new toilet brush as the handle was broken and the holder was rusty.

It was very clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They do warn you about the stairs which can be tricky but they are in line with the character of the building and caused us a lot of amusement. It was very worth the money. Very central and although there is no parking, there is a car park pretty much opposite so was no problem.

If I had to be really picky, I would say the toilet chain could have been longer

Super nice hotel, located just opposite to the west gate and the great hall, at the top of the high street. We took the upgraded room in the second floor, which was clean and welcoming, comfortable bed, 4 bed pillows, warm blankets, towels, toiletries, a kettle with tea, coffee and cookies. Although the reception in unmanned, staff was always available via phone or messages - special thanks to Ryan! The pub downstairs was a great place for an evening drink before bedtime.. We had a lovely 5-nights stay! Thank you!

All was very good (as we had the upgraded room), we got great value for money.

Our host and staff were very welcoming and we felt 'at home' immediately. The room was spotlessly clean with crisp fresh linen and , despite the exceptionally hot weather, the room fan helped enable us to have a good night's sleep. The en-suite was small but perfectly functional and all was decorated to high standard. The building dates from the late 1800's, and with this character, not all modernisations are possible/permitted (original windows and somewhat steep staircase - worth the effort.) The bar serves an excellent selection of draught beers, wines, spirits etc., in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere and we very happily indulged! The location was perfect for all city centre activities, and within easy distance of the railway station. We would be very happy to stay here again

The Inn is not staffed 24 hours, and notably at morning checkout, although it must be said that there was excellent response to both telephone and email.
