Room, location, price and breakfast food better than expected from reading previous reviews. The Duty manager on Sunday was very good too, despite having to deal with several things at once. He is a credit to the Hotel.

The young male staff member greeting guests at breakfast on Monday should be told not to be patronising. Just because I'm a 60 year old woman and have greying hair doesn't mean you should refer to me as 'love' ! It is both ageist and inappropriate in a hotel. I could be a High Court Judge for all you know! He also didn't stop the builder who was having breakfast from serving himself at the buffet whilst wearing his dirty anorak! That's unsanitary. Everything else about my stay was great.

Stayed here a few years ago. Wasn’t quite as good overall as then. Room clean. Could do with a fridge as other twin room had one. Lovely fluffy towels in bathroom. Breakfast was varied, very nice. Check in was quick and easy.Lots of sockets to charge our appliances

Shower was only tepid both evening and early morning. Mentioned it to reception who said they would take it up with maintenance. Effected both our twin rooms. Did ask for a quiet room when booking a good few months earlier but unfortunately wasn’t as room was above car park rather than facing cathedral

Hotel in town center a stones throw from shops and restaurants. Bed was really comfy. Very quiet, wasn’t disturbed by any noise from other guests. WiFi really fast. Woke up to church Bells ringing on Sunday morning which was lovely. Check out is 12pm which was great! Shower over bath very powerful and hot. Range of teas and coffees to choose from.

The parking. Only a hand full of spaces. Arrived late in the evening and had to wait for a space. £15 a day for parking is a bit steep. Because of lack of parking we didn’t move the car all weekend as was worried we wouldn’t be able to park it again. Room is very old fashioned. Lamps weren’t working. Kettle lid broken. Bath very stained and worn out. Room and corridors smell musty. We didn’t eat in hotel

Always trying to be in the walking area of a town, I had no idea our room would overlook Winchester Cathedral. Such a nice view to wake up to each day! With our checklist of "things to see" in hand, we walked to every single spot with ease. Starbucks coffee is sold on property. The hotel has a cute bar. Though the hotel had a lift, we used the stairs. Our bed was extremely comfortable. We had tea and coffee in our room. The desk came in handy as we had a little business to conduct while away from home. The bathroom was a good size, we did struggle with the shower a bit...

We enjoyed every aspect of our stay. There's nothing we didn't like.

Booked for 2 night stay about a week before and then read some of the negative reviews so was a bit apprehensive. However everything worked out fine. I had booked a larger room and it had a huge king size bed, a table at the window with 2 chairs overlooking the Cathedral. The room was clean and comfortable. My only complaint was there were no biscuits to go with the morning coffee in the room facilities. The carpark on the Saturday day was busy but we did get a space and no issues on the Sunday. We did not eat at the hotel as my wife is not a breakfast fan and in the evening we had booked dinner at the Hotel du Vin on Saturday and Rick Stein's on Sunday, both excellent. It was good value for Money and the Location was perfect. I would definately book again.

As I said above. No biscuits in room. It is an older building and maybe not as plush as some I have stayed in but a lot better than a lot more. It would be nice to be able to book a parking space.

The room is quite large and although the furniture was a bit tired looking, the room itself was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. We very much appreciated the high quality bed linen. The loction is superb, we loved the view of the winchester cathedral. The hotel staff, without fail are welcoming and the buffet breakfast is vast and varied. In fact, rare are the hotels that offer so many milk options for their clients! (Oat milk, soya milk, skim milk, full fat milk...)

The outside of the shower/bath is peeling and a bit off putting...but the tub is spotlessly clean!

* Location of hotel, with an exceptional view of Winchester Cathedral * Willingness of staff to help * Comfortable room (the deluxe double) * Good-quality breakfast * Proximity to town centre *Pre-ordered prosecco was presented as a complementary gesture, as it was delayed by a day (and thus spoiled the surprise on check-in)

* The compact double room wasn't great value for money (the deluxe double was significantly better, at practically the same rate) * Rooms weren't interconnected - or even adjacent - as we had requested (they were separated by the lifts) * Walk-in showers not available, except in the not-so-good compact double room

Bed was so comfortable and the location was excellent (even more so due to it's handy parking.) Staff were very friendly and chatty. The shower pressure was great too.

Our room was clean enough but not the standard that I would have expected. Dust on the bedside lamps, hairs in the bath. The following morning, our room was serviced but cups were not taken away/swapped for clean ones, additional milk/teabags not supplied and the shampoo plus body wash was not filled. However, reception desk staff were very happy to provide us with the extra milk and shampoo upon request.

Excellent location, very friendly and helpful staff, large rooms with lovely view (for an extra fee). Good breakfast.

Building a little run down in places. Old TV in one room did not work very well, no channel list, many missing channels. Other room had an excellent new TV, should be that standard in all rooms. Tea etc in rooms not replenished after first night, though reception staff provided it immediately once we asked. Old debris from previous guest still.in fridge on arrival.

I was able to upgrade to a better room with a wonderful view of the Cathedral, a king-sized bed and a fridge. The hotel's position couldn't be more central, with easy walking to the shopping streets, the main sights and the river.

I think the breakfast could be improved: there could have been more healthy cereal choices (such as bran flakes); some toppings offered for the cereals (such as seeds, nuts, dried fruit); and my main concern was that none of the so-called "chilled" items on offer (such as fruit, yoghurt, cheese, cold meats) was presented in a chill cabinet, but simply laid out at room temperature - a definite health risk. The shower in our room (208) leaked water onto the bathroom floor through a gap in the plastic seal flap at the bottom - the solution apparently being to turn the shower-head towards the wall, rather than effect a permanent repair!
