I had to take some time to write the review (some distance and a new place contributed hugely to the objectivity of my evaluation of the hotel). 1. The location: Smart Hotel MVD is located at the „old city“ or cuidad viejo. This district is full of sightseeings (for es. the Independence square, the Court of Justice, many market halls) as well as of poor people/ drug addicts. you will see some wonderful architectural objects (houses, villas) being in a bad condition, contributing to the very unique Charme of Montevideo. Apart of that, the hotel is 5 min walking distance from the ocean side and 20/25 min to the next good beach. Smart hotel is very close to hundreds of cheap (comparing to the other districts of Montevideo, where the normal supermarkets are relatively more expensive) “supermercado” and bakeries/ culinary shops (where you can by ready meals by weight or as a full lunch ‘plate’ with a main and a side). 2. Staff Very nice and friendly, ready to support you with any info and reacting prompt in cases of emergency (We had to find a doctor and our daughter fall down and hit her head & broke her lip). All of them speak excellent English. 3. Breakfast Considering to a normal European continental breakfast I would give 3 starts (out of 5) to the hotel’s breakfast. Scrabbled eggs, sometimes bacon, a couple of fruits, toasts, coffee/tea/cocoa/ milk; 2/3 types of muesli/ cereals; fresh ham and cheese were very good & tasty. 4.Other pluses The roof Terrace is a must: you can arrange a romantic (to a certain extent) evening Room service is good and comparing the the prices at restaurants is even cheaper.

The next door house is a club and local people donot hesitate to dance and chat and to be pretty loud from Friday on till Sunday night. it is “bearable” if you leave in the 7/8/9th floor. can’t know about the rest.

Great location. You can walk to all places of tourist interest New facilities with an excellent and practical design that makes the stay very pleasant and comfortable. The Bar/Restaurant is also great. I tried it for dinner and breakfast and both were very good Always with good relaxing music both in the hotel lobby and in the restaurant. Gym equipment was very good.

Very noisy street on Thursday and Friday nights. I had to close the windows and turn on the AC even though it was cold, and even then it was difficult for me to sleep because of the noise of motorcycles, cars and people shouting in the street until dawn.

This is a fantastic hotel. I really enjoyed my stay here and I would definitely stay here again. Great staff, great location, and a reasonable price. The room was spotless, and I LOVED the fact that it had a bidet! Tons of great stuff nearby as well to see. It's very easy to get an Uber or Cabify at this location.

The only thing that was a bit rough was that the air conditioning had a hard time keeping up with the sun that would brightly shine into the room in the evening. It was impossible to maintain any reasonably chill temperature as the sun was setting - but that was only a few hours a day, so I really can't complain about it. The rest of the time it was super comfy cozy!

Booking, hotel and check-in: Very professional and helpful communication from the staff (after real chaos with other places I tried to book in Uruguay). Nice simple restaurant in the hotel that was open late, 10th floor terrace with view Location: Short walk to the old city, Independence square, the sea, main shopping streets; though almost everything was deserted and closed over New Year's. One of the only restaurants open was Sazon Peruana up the street, really delicious ... and great people! The room: Lovely corner loft room with trees outside the window, a big TV and a couple places to sit, a kitchenette. Very tasteful minimalist furnishings, squeaky clean, competent and non-intrusive housekeeping. The bed was huge and comfortable, soft sheets Addendum: The hotel of course has no control over this but just a note about the area during the holidays: there was a lot of visible poverty nearby that very much contrasted with the wealth of the hotel. This is not a complaint by any stretch ... but certainly was a real reality check

Great location, less than 5 min from Montevideo central square and gate to old town. Very modern building, with -mostly- good facilities. Incredibly helpful staff. Good food offer. Very good value for money.

Poor noise insulation. Also, rather cold on a winter evening. Weird that rooms have fridges and sinks but no cooking appliances. Feels like an incomplete idea. Independent of the hotel, there is a very noisy bar across the road.

The customer service was great. They were very friendly and spoke English. Our room wasn't yet ready at check-in time, so they provided us complimentary snacks and coffee in the attached restaurant, which were very good. The breakfast was served in the same location and was delicious. The three-person room we reserved was as pictured and spacious. The Wifi also worked well and came in at 19 Mbps for the download and upload speed.

We visited on a holiday weekend, so the center area was pretty empty, and many places were closed. The area seems to have quite a few street people walking around at night, so it feels a little unsafe if you're by yourself.

A great hotel near Main Street, but absolutely nothing to do in Montevideo… we thought we’d go across in ferry to Montevideo from Buenes Aires… stayed here 3 days but dead streets and no tourism. Hotel staff are super, breakfast was ok - only down side was single bed sized… they were like only 2.5 foot wide and not big enough for us 6 footers… otherwise all good…

Single Beds

The room was clean and spacious with a kettle and fridge both very useful. The hotel is very close to the old town with museums etc. The street is rather rundown rather like most of the centre of Montevideo. Dull shops and restaurants nearby expensive too.

The hotel was fine; Most of Montevideo and Uruguay is very expensive with poor choice of shopping and restaurants.. It's burgers, pizza and chips all the way....

This is a really nice hotel, with excellent facilities and very clean. The staff are friendly and the breakfast options are really good.

I booked a superior king bed but it was really just two single beds pushed together. It was very difficult to sleep comfortably as the beds kept separating and causing a dip in the middle. Otherwise I would stay here again.

The kindness and attention of the staff. The breakfast. The music in the hotel bar. The bed.

There was a food smell in the hall to our room. There wasn't a microwave oven in the room, and I might be wrong, but I thought I saw one in the property photos.
