Hourglass Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection

Staff was amazing - kind and helpful. There was an issue with the pool when we arrived. The pool area was originally the reason we booked the hotel, so this was a huge disappointment. However, staff quickly fixed it and were able to open the pool. Rooms are comfy, clean and huge and we had a balcony overlooking the pool area. The pool area is really great and the pool is huge and deep and thus great for both playing and actual swimming. The fitness room was also good and had more equipment than we have seen in other similar hotels. We also liked the complementary coffee and tea available all offers in reception. This place was around half the price of the surrounding hotels and we got a lot more than we feel that we paid for.

The breakfast is simple and a “take-away” style breakfast with yoghurt, juices, fruit and croissants. It was enough for us, but if you expect a larger breakfast, you need to go out.

We loved the open interior grounds of the property, with our patio so close to the pool and hot tub (both of which were very clean and family friendly). The ease and comfort of having the outdoors so close was really lovely. It had an awesome modern, yet mid-century vibe to it that was nostalgic and comfortable. We loved the casting ability for television and the coffee bar. The staff were kind and accommodating. We look forward to staying here again next time we travel.

The location was great, located right off the 99 which made it very central to everyplace we ended up visiting. And the pool was nice, very clean and a great way to cool off

The beyondTV set up was a little bit of a nightmare that didn’t really work, half of the apps on it did not work anymore and the wifi was too slow to be able to load videos on the web browser. It was also a little annoying that the keycard worked half the time on the side doors to access the building and get back you our room

This is a very nice hotel that we booked during our round trip through California. We intended to stay here only for 1 day but extended our stay to 3 nights. The room is very space and newly decorated. The bathroom is clean and of a good quality. The hotel has plenty of free parking places all around the building.

The grab and go breakfast has very limited choices (only 1 type of bread) and fruit was only on the buffet during the week-end

The room was very nice. Could have used some additional items...like a pen and pad because I like to leave a tip each day for the room service and I like to write a thank you note to them so they know it's okay to take the cash. Also...it would be nice to have Q-Tips or a bar of soap.

I thought it was very strange to have to walk upstairs to the first floor. The breakfast was just "okay".

Staff was very accommodating. The room was clean. The beds were comfy. The room smelled good. They were so comfy we stayed an extra night. We really liked the layout of the hotel.

The pool/hot tub were closed. We were looking forward to using them. There could be more breakfast choices in the buffet. We didn’t like having to walk past the giant dumpster overflowing with garbage outside our room door.

It is a rather old building but it is recently renovated and refreshed. We liked the pool area and that there was a 24hour water and coffee station.

We were given a room on the ground floor looking over at the parking area. The room smelled like humid and unpleasant. Breakfast was very poor consisting only of packed apple pies juices and yoghurts but overall we had a good experience.

Staff really friendly and the location was perfect for my needs. I only needed it to sleep and shower so it was perfect.

I feel the bathroom could’ve been a little cleaner and the water pressure was so low. It was also meant for handicap hosts so there was no barrier to prevent water from the shower going onto the main floor area of the bathroom.

We loved the room and easy access to the pool! We also loved the coffee station and breakfast area. This is the only hotel I've been to that has a coffee machine that serves different coffee strengths and best part is every cup is fresh!! Best way to start your day or wind down at night. The staff is very friendly too.

Didn't like that we couldn't stay longer!!!

I LOVED this hotel! I drove from Chicago to Oakland in 5 days/ 4 nights and the Hourglass was my favourite stay of my trip! The staff were amazing, they even called my room to make sure everything was a accommodating for my needs (I have two service dogs). The bed and pillows were absolutely perfect, I felt like I was sleeping in a cloud attended by angels. The bathroom was impeccably clean and the bath mat and towels were fluffy and looked brand new. I appreciated the environmental awareness with the shampoo, conditioner, soaps, and lotion provided in wall-mounted dispensers instead of one-use plastic bottles. The complimentary coffee and sparkling water machines in the lobby were the icing on the cake!
