I really liked the friendly vibe and the wide variety of ages of people staying there. It has a well tooled community kitchen and a nice big table to eat at or set up laptops where guests interact. They also have a great common room with comfortable furniture and a variety of musical instruments and lots of videos to watch.

We were there when it was cold outside but sometimes when the central ventilation system came on it was blowing really cold air. But they also provided a good space heater to us.

We received a warm welcome from the guy running the place, he gave a detailed tour of this lovely historic building & all it's facilities. The room was clean & comfortable & although not large, was certainly not cramped. The bathroom was clean & everything worked as expected. Located a few minutes walk from downtown Bishop where there is a good choice of places to eat & drink, if you don't want to cook in the hostel itself. Very friendly & easy going vibe in the hostel with it's large kitchen & choice of banjo, guitars & piano to play in it's equally large common room. Fun place to stay.

Clean, organized, delivers what is offered and provides a good price for the traveler on a budget. The only challenge is what is common to all dorm rooms on a weekend with young adults in the room. But nothing some ear plugs or a long tiresome day outdoors will not help you sleep through.

The rooms were warm and cozy but the asumir was too dry due to the heater. Wish there was a less dry way of hearting the room. Dried up everybody’s throat and sinuses and made for a lot of snoring

The staff was very welcoming and helpful. There was a heavy snow storm when I was there and the staff did an excellent job clearing the walk ways and the drive way. I also liked that the front door is locked and one has to ring the door bell to be allowed in. This means the establishment really cares about their guests and of course new comers are always quickly welcomed in.

Great location and your typical hostel. I think we were the oldest couple there! We felt like the experience was a throwback to the 60's but overall people were friendly. It was a shared kitchen but very busy so the timing was important. The shared refrigerator was packed and they had a marker for you to mark your groceries.

The price! I booked online but paid at the hostel and I felt I was overcharged compared to the Booking.com price.

Thank you Hostel California! You're the best place for climbers to stay on a bouldering trip!!! Thank you for lending us your crash mats and the guide book! Love all the common facilities you have and we spent most of our time outside the room making friends and playing board games. As a bonus, having Jeff, Acorn and Jack (the three little dogs) on a couple of days was the BEST! Acorn is easily the friendliest sweetest girl and absolutely love playing with her. Thank you all for your hospitality, we love our time at THC! P.s. i hope your strawberry seedlings grow up strong and well!

Perfect, quiet location and walking distance to the downtown of Bishop! Safe neighborhood with great parking available. Pleasant staff with all the amenities you could wish for! Great room fantastic, comfortable beds and pillows which were the best beds in our 6-day road trip!!! Lovely remodeled Victorian with a great courtyard and nooks to just 'be'.

Can't say a thing did not like!

The other residents respected your privacy and there quiet in the morning.

Maybe a little more Lighting in the courtyard. We arrived back at the hostel around 11:30 12:00 a.m. Since everyone was asleep my cousin and I wanted to talk and relax before going to bed. We were not aware there was somebody sleeping on the couch in the courtyard. He or she were laying in a dark corner.

My family and I can't imagine staying in a house built in 1884. It was really well maintained. Clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Love the colorful building. If you're use to staying in "hotels", this place is certainly not for you.

The weed smell when we enter the house. The staff did apologize that mirror broke but they could have fix it before we arrive. Maybe add one more trash can in the bathroom and a shelf by the sink?

This is a "youth hostel" type facility. Most guests were young backpackers/hikers staying someplace with facilities for a day or two to rest or get ready for their trip. Everyone was very nice,

I'm 72 years old and got an upper bunk, my fault should have asked for a lower, so if you don't want to take the change let them know when you reserve your space that you want a lower.
