We always stay at the Hiouchi Motel when visiting the Redwoods. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. I love the location and the motel is cozy. If you're looking for high end..this isn't for you. Having said that, it has all the basics you need. The outside area is kept up nicely and the extra touches (smores supplies, fire pit and outdoor games) is awesome. It's quaint, it's comfortable and it's nestled amongst the Redwoods. A shout out to Kevin for being so helpful and sweet to us during our stay. Always working hard and always smiling. We will be back and look forward to seeing you again!

It is located outside of Crescent city (6-7 mi) immediately adjacent to a part of the Redwood National park. It is isolated and quite. The manager as staff rescued me from a problem, see next question
the Booking.com app on my phone was repeatedly substituting a different reservation date from what I entered upon search. I corrected it several times and then committed to a Non_Refundable purchase and found the the app had reinserted the checkin a date earlier than requested. It is impossible to get any help what so ever (a person) at booking.com You will have to contact the property as your only option. In my case I got to enjoy the wait of >24 hrs wondering if I had just lost nearly $470 (2 rooms plus taxes). Fortunately when I was able to get the owner, they corrected my date to the next day. I won't be using booking.com again. I have used it many times, but now the app is very faulty and NonRefundable booking is a gamble. Zero stars to Booking.com

This Motel is an excellent place to use as a base to visit the Redwoods forest. There is a little cafe beside it that serves excellent food. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. The garden was a really nice place for kids to explore and they had a fire where we could make s'mores in the evening. I would stay here again!
Hiouchi is a very small village so there aren't many services around. However, what food is available is right beside the motel. The motel is located on a very busy road so families should be careful.

The location was great to start visit to Redwoods. The room was comfy, spacious with good wifi. Check in was easy, staff at front desk very polite.
We had booked through booking.com and had tried to contact the property 3-4 times to request a ground floor room and ask about having dinner ordered. We never received a reply. We ended up on second floor (which is difficult for us with stairs only access). There is no food available in the area after 2pm.

This place was really nicely located. The drive to the Jebediah State Park was really convenient. The drive into Crescent City was beautiful. The rooms were decent and sufficient. They are not deluxe, but we weren't there much anyway. The bathroom was nice- especially the shower (great water pressure and temperature). We used the small fridge as well. We were there in extreme off-season, so I can't speak to what it would be like if all the rooms were full. Our interactions with staff were brief but pleasant. We liked the cafe next door as well. Excellent choice for a visit to Redwoods.
I didn't have any issues at all. If you are traveling with kids, there is not much to do- no pool, game room or whatever.

Cute little secluded spot. Not much road noise can be heard even though it is right off the highway. They are pet friendly with grassy areas all around to walk the doggo. They have a cute little firepit area to use in the front. They are adjacent to a nice restaurant that is open breakfast and lunch and across from a mini-mart that has a large selection of goods. The room was clean and felt safe.
The bed creaked loudly every time we turned over. They don't have many plug ins for charging phones, laptop, etc. Had to move the side tables to access an outlet. Not much water pressure or hot water in the shower. The room heater was very loud when it kicked on at night.

The Hiouchi hotel looks like many other motels, two-level walkup with rooms that overlook the parking lot. But it is well-cared for and maintained and feels like a nicer place than many motels
It's a bit pricey for a motel but the bed was good, the room was clean, the bathroom all worked and the location was very nice. Breakfast at the Hiouchi Cafe is tasty, and the Chevron station across the highway has the most amazing offering of snacks, booze, and fixings we have ever seen at an rc center.

The staff was very nice, friendly. There was a cute little fire pit with comfy camping chairs around it and a s’more making kit. The grounds were cute and cared for. Very convenient off the main road, next door to a cafe that offered great breakfast and a gas station/ well stocked convenience store across the street. The Room was very clean.
Conveniently located off the main road made for some traffic noise during the night. Also, noise from other rooms. Nothing ridiculous though. We stayed first week in October, so during peak tourist season it might be a bit noisier. Over all for the location it was great though.

I love that the retro/vintage style of the Hiouchi Motel is preserved, but with modern updates. It is in the thick of old growth redwoods and the drive to it and leaving was spectacular. It is right on U.S. Highway 199, about 15 minutes east of Crescent City proper. I like that it stands alone and not in a crowded “motel row.” The room had a typical layout but was neat, clean and well-appointed with all the basics: bathroom, refrigerator, coffee maker, etc., and had a very comfortable bed! The lawn area was large and quite charming with outdoor seating, fairy lights, an inviting firepit, an apple tree and other nice foliage, doggie poop-bags and dedicated bin for disposal. The staff were prompt to check me in and offered helpful supper suggestions as I came too late to eat at the neighboring cafe. I did enjoy a hearty breakfast there the next morning.
Nothing. I greatly enjoyed my one-night stay.

The location is fantastic and seems really nestled away inside the redwood forest. The staff was incredibly friendly and organized. They even own the diner next door. I've already recommended this place to several of my friends.
The only downside I can think of, and I realize this is completely out of their control, is that the ice freezers at the gas station across the road from the hotel are a little noisy and take away from the otherwise incredible nature that surrounds the hotel. This was easy enough to get used to and I slept well.
