Jackson, California, is an old gold-mining town. The hotel is in the older part of Jackson. We loved being on the sleepy main street, knowing that the primary highways out of town were only a block away. So Access, check! We loved the old, restored feel of the building. History, Check! We expected a couple of things in the room (for example - an iron and ironing board.) Reception found them for me and brought them to my room with, 'Anything else you need, just let us know." So, Service, check! We enjoyed the number of choices in the breakfast room, although the only way to heat a breakfast sandwich was the microwave. Cereal, and coffee; check!
The tiny room was a surprise, not a problem. We weren't there to stay in the room. The view from our room was of a parking lot that we saw first when a truck spent too long emptying a dumpster right outside our window. Again, we didn't spend much time in the room. I was told that the Hotel has recently reopened after Covid Lockdown. That may explain why the restaurant was closed during posted open hours, but the hotel bar was selling drinks and making people happy. We bought hot, greasy, delicious bar food for dinner one night.

Beautiful old hotel, gorgeously renovated. Brand new elevator. Seemed very dedicated to accessibility. Friendly staff. I loved all the artwork and "ghost" ambiance. The bar downstairs had just opened, and the bartender was super lovely to us. Room had a gorgeous bathroom. View of the town was cool. The breakfast in the morning had a good amount of options and went until 10am on the weekend, which I thought was nice.
It was over 100 degrees, so the AC was our main priority. Once we got it working right and got the auto-shut-off turned off, it worked well, but it was super complicated to program the AC. Bed was not particularly comfortable.

Quaint place, I love old history in western towns. I was happy with my stay except 2 things. One the shower didn’t stay warm more than 34 min and the sink wouldn’t drain very well. Other than that very lovely place updated to todays standards and large rooms. Bed a bit to firm for me but comfortable. I didn’t take advantage of continental free daily breakfast since I’m not a morning person and don’t need coffee in the morning. Had a nice view of downtown Jackson. Hotel was quiet since I stayed on a Sun and Mon and not many people were there and the ones who were, were quiet. Front desk ladies were very nice and accommodating. If it were a pet friendly hotel I would visit again. Parking not close so prepare to walk and carry your luggage upstairs.
Cool showers and slow draining sink. You can hear everything outside, cars and people talking loudly.

The location is right on a corner of Main Street, so the town slows down a bit. Little Main Street shops VERY CLOSE! They have fancier rooms with balconies, I wasn’t in one of those though. The front porch is very old timey feeling. I wanted to feel like I was back in the gold rush days and, in the still of night, with the creek running and nature chirping, it felt that way. Comfy bed, clean bathroom, vanity separate from shower area. It’s an old building so the rooms are tighter than a new build. FANTASTIC CLIMATE CONTROL - seems brand new!
The slower pressure was crazy powerful, but that might’ve been how I had it set.

No trouble finding it but didn't know until after check-in that parking is in a structure behind hotel and there's an agreement with the city to use. Quaint old-style hotel has lots of charm. That extends to the room, which was smaller than expected and more like the size of a typical Euro hotel room. The WiFi might have been the fastest I've ever used.
Since I was there overnight for work, the lack of desk and comfortable chair forced me to improvise. Sitting up in bed was a no-go since leaning on the headboard caused it to bang into the wall so didn't want to do that; besides, that was on the uncomfortable side.

Tamara at the front desk on Friday was very courteous and helpful. In fact, all the staff we encountered were excellent. Our room was on the small side, but it had a walk in shower and the bed was comfortable. AlThe l in all, our stay was great and we would go back to the National Hotel again.
The room could have been vacuumed better. The water pressure from the shower spray was very strong and painful. I alerted the front desk to this

Loved the uniqueness of the hotel, as well as the excellent location and dedicated parking lot. Breakfast was decent. Staff was wonderful, especially Tamara at the front desk who was very welcoming and gracious.
Our ceiling fan stopped working. Meant to tell the front desk and forgot to do it at check out. Other than that, a small table would be handy if you are having a snack or meal in your room. However, due to space constraints, I know that would not be easy.

Holly and the rest of the staff were friendly, responded quickly to requests. Rooms were clean and the shower very nice pressure.
Should have more than one trash can in rooms and the soap bars were too soft and broke down quickly. The emergency fire escapes are not safe for exiting the property. On the side there is a ply wood barrier and in the back you have to jump several feet.

going to this hotel is like coming home. I go as often as possible. It is my happy place, my go to. I feel like I’m at home. tome the staff are friends. honestly I could just live there, seriously! I love to wander up and down Main Street and go for walks all over Jackson. It’s the safest place I’ve been to in a very long time. Even the doors are open 24 hours at the hotel! I can’t recommend highly enough❤️
there’s nothing not to like at all

Wonderful furnishings in the lobby, DR, and BR. The cooper plate ceiling, stone fireplace, and stunning wooden floors are jaw-dropping. All walls on all floors are lined w/period art. It's fascinating. Many of the antiques and chandeliers are original to the hotel. The lobby is absolutely gorgeous, and the history is so interesting. Presidents, movie stars, and other famous dignitaries stayed there. It's so glamorous. No wonder it's a popular hotel for wedding parties. The mattress was very comfortable and the linens so soft.
