overpriced restaurant onsite, food not so great there

I recently stayed in the Kona Rock room, and while there were many highlights, a few aspects could use improvement. First, the unique room design was a standout feature. The rock shower was a refreshing touch, and the fireplace added a cozy ambiance that made my stay feel special. The pool area was lovely, and I enjoyed the convenience of the bar and restaurant right on site.

I was disappointed by a few details that seemed out of place for such an expensive hotel. The curtains were old and dated, which detracted from the overall aesthetic. Additionally, the shower faucet was difficult to use. I also found it strange to have the coffee machine in the bathroom while the iron and ironing board occupied the center of the room. A simple swap would make the layout much more practical.

The service at the cafe was excellent. The room was unique and fun - definitely most everything about it fit the "Pioneer America" theme. The pool was the best hotel pool my daughter had ever experienced, especially with the two jacuzzis and the size of the the main pool. In addition, the horses that were in the field across from our rooms on the morning we left were a great bonus. My daughter got to feed them and we got some fabulous photos with the mountain background of that.

We liked everything A LOT, but there were two particular things we could see be improved, specifically In our room. At night the outside lights came through our door window a little too brightly, because we only had blinds, which made it harder to fall asleep. An option for a pull down blackout shade would have been fabulous. In addition, every time we moved in our bed, even a little bit, it shook the side table lamps because the bed and side tables appeared to be connected, making a rattling sound, that also made it a bit more challenging to get to sleep. Not sure how to improve the bed/sidetable & lamp situation, but wanted to bring this to your attention. Thanks so much.

Absolutely incredible!! I have been waiting for years to stay at the Madonna Inn, and it surpassed all of my wildest dreams! Our room was so cute and the bathroom was the best part imo. We loved the pool!!! Literally my only complaint is that we didn’t plan our trip well and weren’t able to spend enough time to really appreciate the Madonna Inn’s magic!

I didn’t dislike anything! Just keep in mind: this is an older hotel, so it isn’t going to smell brand spanking new, and some doors might stick a little. She’s got years on her, but she’s still worth every penny!

The room was fantastic and whimsical. All the staff from the bar, spa, check in and restaurants were so friendly and accommodating. The danishes and cake were very yummy ! Everything was clean and quiet. The pool was very nice to lay at. The pink cloud drink was a must try! And you can’t beat the views .

The only thing disappointing thing is they cancelled my massage last minute due to a sick call. It was very disappointing as we were only there for one night and drove 4 hours to get there. Although I know you never plan to be sick - I would maybe hope in the future they can have a back up plan/staff for sick calls especially on a busy weekend. The staff did their best to make right with a gift card and a goody bag. I did not catch the girls name but she did go over and beyond to try and rectify the situation. Greatly appreciated . I probably would have rated the property a 10 if it weren’t for this event.

The unique atmosphere, historical background, and sense of place were fantastic. It's a combination of hippie culture, old Hollywood glam, and open spaces to look at. The Tesla superchargers were easy to use, always had an available charger.

The menu at Gold Rush Steak House is a bit overpriced, although it's understandable that they can't always get the cheapest ingredients, given their location. I wouldn't order the Prime Rib salad again--the greens are so cold, the Prime Rib congealed immediately upon contact, so when it got to the table, it was unappetizing.

The inside of our room (the love nest) was so beautiful and kitschy. There were lots of extra little details from the birds on the light fixtures to the tile in the shower. The hotel as a whole has wonderful amenities, from their spa to their delicious steak house. They really have everything you could need. Also bonus: fancy toilets with heated seats lol

The only downside was the big lights outside of our bedroom window that never went off. They were part of our outside window, on the top floor. The light seeped through the curtains and kept me up for most of the night. I even called the front desk and they didn’t seem to know what I was talking about. It made my sleep really uncomfortable.

Growing up, my dad would take me and my sister on road trips, and we'd always drive by Madonna Inn. It's been a nearly forgotten dream of mine to stay here. My partner and I were celebrating our first anniversary last weekend, so when I was researching cool places to stop for our roadtrip from LA to Sonoma I had to book at this iconic spot. THINGS I LOVED: I didn't realize the walls in the 'GO' room were GLITTER until we arrived and it truly made the experience (photos of us loving the walls attached)! I also was really impressed with how clean the rooms were, especially the shower and carpets. The bidet was a glorious touch. also the gang left a bottle of the Brut in our room with a little note because it was our anniversary (thank you so much, we really did it) and that was SUPER sweet :) My partner and I live in LA and this is 10000000% going to be our fun getaway spot, we CANNOT wait to come back. The pool is walk in, and the view from the hot tub was gorgeous. Everyone who worked there was so nice. Just a really fun time. Also the gift shop is A DREAM. SO much cool stuff and great quality! I got my friend one of the iridescent chalices and she LOVED IT. I'm gonna 100% get the gold painted one for myself next time and maybe even the cool pink cowboy shirt I tried on. WHO KNOWS! Anything can happen at The Madonna!

the bed was REAL squishy and the sheets got pretty sweaty (i dunno if that material just doesn't breathe much - it was fine, just turn on the AC and you'll be good) but that could just be personal preference. The light switches were a little confusing depending on what kinda lighting you wanted (there's like two options lol) but we figured it out lol and none of this took away from the overall experience at all! Still had the best time lol <3

The room was clean, spacious, and fun! The view from our balcony was awesome and the hotel facilities are great. We loved spending time at the pool, the massage I received at the spa was amazing, and the hotel bar is a great place to have a drink, chat with locals and tourists, and people watch. This hotel is over the top and fun for everyone. It's close enough to downtown-- we walked along the path from the hotel and it took about 20 minutes. Can't wait to come back!

The only issue is that the key cards to get into the rooms are super sensitive-- the most sensitive to phones, magnets, etc that I've ever used. Sometimes you'd have to swipe it like 10 times to get in (to your room, the pool. anywhere). We met some other guests who had the same issue.

The room we had was big, although the furniture was old and the one chair creaked.

I know that the Madonna Inn is “the place to stay“ in SLO, but I didn’t find anything special about it, particularly in light of the price of the room and the resort fee. The room we had “Solvang“ was very big, but the furniture must’ve been brought in sometime around 1945 right after the war. When we first checked in, they offered us a room the third floor, and it had no elevator to get up. Fortunately, we are able to change to a first floor room.
