The Capitol Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection

The value for the room was out of this world. The continental breakfast was varied and well made. The room was clean, cool and we had a great view of the capital. Make parking cheaper than the lot if you want peoples to park there. The location was centralized with sites and eateries a plenty.

The location was not as rough as 2 block down but we could see it from there. My only real issue is the homeless/transient folk who are allowed to hang out in the lobby and interact (beg/solicit) with guests. The parking lot should be better attended.

The room was comfortable, clean and spacious. The bed was superbly comfortable. The fridge was a God send for us to put extra water and refreshments in. Unlike many hotels we have stayed in, where the fridge generated extra heat in the room and were not super cold, THIS fridge was cold!!! The microwave was an added bonus incase we needed it too. Brilliant. Daily room service was great as it was very hot and we used all the towels daily! Although the breakfast as basic, it was ok for our stay as this was not a holiday for us. The lobby was clean and comfortable too. The location of this hotel is brilliant as we could drive to our various locations with ease and ALWAYS had a parking space to return to at the hotel.

The key card access to our room was very intermittent. It took several swipes to access and one day, neither of our keys worked so we needed to go back to lobby to change them. More of a nuisance, than a complaint though. We had arrived from the UK and although we knew parking was available at the hotel, and were advised parking behind the hotel or underground options were available. We did not know we needed to park underground WITH a hotel voucher. So we had parked above ground behind the hotel. We received a parking ticket from the company who owns the parking lot!! All was sorted by reception staff on duty that day, and fully explained. The lady wrote out our voucher and we were sorted for the rest of our stay. Thank you.

The room was spacious and included a fridge, microwave, coffee-maker and TV. The beds were comfortable. There was good pressure in the shower. The complementary breakfast was excellent, with a few choices. The staff were very helpful and answered any questions we had. The location beside the bus station was ideal for our needs.

Thete was only 1 elevator working. Sometimes it was slow, but we never waited more than 5 minutes.

Concierge was extremely personable and pleasant through it all and bent over backwards in making room arrangements for me (my room wasn't available when I arrived so I was given another). Bedding was clean and very comfortable and came with assortment of 3 different pillows which was swell. I was going to St. Francis for surgery and fasting so have no comments on breakfast. Location was optimum for my trip to St. Francis on the following Friday morning; drop-off and pick-up was a breeze.

Ended up being charged upon arrival with $100 refundable room damage fee which I don't think was mentioned previously. Concierge advised I should get it back in 3-5 days. Concierge was very pleasant but appeared overworked with a huge amount of responsibilities. Place seemed just a tad run down; room heating / cooling unit had missing controls door and there was some hair / dust around. Of note, the employees on Friday morning were overheard in negative conversation regarding their work relationships. While not personally a problem, can reflect negatively on overall guest assessment of the facility. Would advise they opt for more uplifting conversation, as / if possible.

If you’re looking for The W don’t stay here. Otherwise, while obviously aging, it has all of the things. Very convenient location right next to the train station in downtown Hartford; spacious room with big fridge, microwave, desk; great value free breakfast; picturesque park across the street; onsite parking (not sure if that’s extra tho).

They charged $100 deposit which I thought was a bit steep; funky smell in hallways but rooms were fine.

Room was very comfortable. Clean and quiet. Beautiful view of the park. Convenient location, breakfast was delicious. Great value.

We arrived later than we wanted due to traffic, but wanted to check in and leave our bags before heading to our concert. Desk clerk sent us to the wrong room which took us an extra 15 minutes to straighten out. Other than that everything was great.

I enjoyed the free breakfast everyday when I woke up, staff was nice, they helped out a lot when we needed it

The one working elevator, it took us 35 minutes to get one down to the lobby when we were getting ready for checkout because we had to wait for an empty elevator to fit the Dolley in as well as get ourselves into it in order to check out on time

Additional cost of USD 15.00 for parking in underground garage at hotel. Would have been good to know the cost for this when booking. The hotel was clean but felt tired. One of the curtains in the room had broken hook so they didn't close properly.

I took a train to reach Hartford from NYC. The hotel is just 2mins walk from the union station. The hotel is clean and the complimentary breakfast is good too. Value for money! Would definitely suggest to someone who is in town. XL center and downtown is 5mins walk.

The cleaning solution has a strong smell at times but other than this the experience was wonderful.

The location was placed near the scenic capitol. The staff were helpful through whatever problem I had, and there was a DASH shuttle to get to my destination at a reasonable time.

Initial check-in took a long time to complete. One of the two elevators was broken. I was also kind disappointed that they didn't have a pool.
