The quaintness and historical value. The springs, manatees, boat tour and soda shop.

At restaurant...Asked hostess for window facing spring and got the window facing the woods ....after observing his technique you could see he was seating by which waitress was next up for a table...next time I will call when making reservations and not online. Tried to get a suite on reservations but ended up with room #41. This room is located over the kitchen...everytime someone goes in and out of the kitchen into the dining room you can hear and feel the door swing open and close....again probably better to call instead of online. Boat tour...people should not be allowed to stand...this blocks the view for people sitting from being able to fully enjoy the beauty of the spring. Heater worked great, shower was great, bed slept well...thank for the opportunity to vent.

The Lodge is a classic and is the only full service hotel located in the Florida State Park sytem. Beautiful old hotel dating back to the 1930s and right on the Wakulla Springs. Beautiful nature all around the hotel. The hotel has a great restaurant that serves excellent meals three times a day. Good base for exploring the Tallahassee area and other state parks in the surrounding area.

Everything shuts down when the dining room closes at 9pm. No tv or music options in what are rather small rooms. Not a lot to do after that but read or go to sleep. Or use you your cell phone for entertainment, as they do have free wifi.

We loved the history and everything about the Lodge. Swimming at the spring was amazing. Had to do the high jump to ring in my 50th b-day. We enjoyed a day at the Cherokee Sink as well. The peacefulness and calmness of the location was magic. The wildlife, and the river tour is a great time, we loved our Captain, he did such a great job. Just do the river tour, it is a blast !

The absolute only complaint that myself and my 3 friends had was the restaurant. You need to bring your patience with you and adjust it to full strength. The breakfast was great, and the waitress was sweet, but dinner. Dinner worked our nerves. Sat 20 min before a drink order was taken, another 30 to even get the drink. The food was great, when it got there. Waited another 40 min to just get the ticket. It was just that waitress, we watched the others working hard and she lived in the kitchen.

The location is amazing, and the grounds and rooms are very well kept. All of the staff are very friendly and professional. We paid extra and had a charcuterie board delivered to the room prior to our arrival, and it was really well made, with several different types of cheeses and fruits; it was a good size board, too, with plenty on it. Old Florida charm is present in just about everything you see here. The nature trail is beautiful and an easy walk. The food served at the restaurant is delicious with a good menu. Early spring was when we visited and the weather was pleasant. We haven't booked one of the glass bottom boat tours yet to take advantage of viewing the crystal clear spring water yet, but we will. A very rich history here and a nice place to stay and visit.

Honestly, I can't really think of anything I didn't like. We asked for extra towels prior to our arrival and got them.

I am a repeat visitor and I love the building, the setting, the absence of TVs, and the size of the rooms. Staff was very nice and helpful!

I would have like the complementary coffee ti stay out until 12:00. I was sad I missed it on my first morning. Maybe some vegetarian options in the sofa fountain menu. I also would have liked to walk along the water earlier and later. I was surprised it was fenced off so early in the evening.

The moment we arrived the employees we friendly helpful and generally happy . Wonderful to see, the lodge itself was charming and old and historical and inviting felt like we were somewhere unique, and the boat ride was fun relaxing and full of nature ;

The restaurant on site had average food with exceptional prices ; I felt there was no effort in the taste or preparation. Just average . Could do better; the service was excellent. Now the grill side we did not try but people said it was delicious. Plus it looked charming

This is not your standard hotel - it really is more of a lodge. I love the common areas - the library and the lobby. The rooms are a little worn/dated, but that just adds to the charm for me. The bathtubs are deep and the water is hot - great after a day of swimming/hiking.

It looked like the landscaping had been ignored. The grounds could be so much nicer (while still retaining their natural state).

Great location for nature buffs. Historic hotel with lots of charm. The location is remote, but there is a restaurant on site with a full bar, and a cafe that is open during the day It is a very old building, with the issues that come with age, but it was a great experience. The best part was the boat tour given by park guides.

Not well set up for people with disabilities and not great if you are expecting spotless rooms and the most modern plumbing. We asked for a room with handicapped access due to the limited mobility of my husband's mom. The room we were given was accessible only through a combination of a small elevator and a short set of steps. It was challenging. The lighting in the rooms was poor (our room didn't even have a reading lamp).

We were late arriving, and had dinner reservations that we had to keep changing. The staff was so kind and so patient. They held a table for us even though we were past our reservation time. The chef cooked all you can eat shrimp after kitchen was closed. We were treated like VIPs even though we were just regular folks. It’s a beautiful state park. Very relaxing atmosphere. Pretty and serene wildlife. Boat tour worthwhile. We had a good time researching history of springs. That makes it more entertaining during visit.

I liked everything about our stay. The park rangers point this out in the boat tour - due to runoff, the springs are dark and murky. I wish waterways could be cleaned up so springs could be returned to former glory & clear waters. But that problem is a responsibility for us all.

February 2023

My husband and mother-in-law stayed 2 nights as part of a road trip from Pensacola to West Palm. We chose it because it was in the right spot on our route, there was a nature park nearby and the price was reasonable. We had no idea we were in for such a treat. The Lodge itself is historic (built in 1935 and the site of several movie filmings, including "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" and "Tarzan of the Apes"). The floors and most of the walls (including those in the rooms) and the staircases are beautiful marble, and the rooms are furnished mostly with antiques. There are lots of common areas-- porches, couches, dining room-- where one can meet and converse with fellow travelers. The dining room is open late, the food was good and they had a good selection of wines and cocktails. But the best (and most unexpected) part was the boat tour, which is run from the hotel's dock but managed by the park service. The tour was very inexpensive (less than $8 per person) and included a fascinating 45-minute ride down a lazy river, surrounded by beautiful birds, lush foliage and LOTS of large and small alligators. In addition to the boat tour, there are lots of hiking trails nearby.

As a function of being built in 1935, the hotel has its quirks. There is one small elevator that has a folding gate. It is beautifully crafted, and is touted by the hotel as the oldest operating elevator of its kind in the country. But on the down side, it didn't line up with the floor the first day, which made it hard to get both the luggage cart and my 90 year old mother-in-law to get in and out. Also, we asked a month in advance for a handicapped room; they said they did not have one but would try to accommodate us. Instead, they put us on the second floor, in a part of the hotel that could only be accessed by navigating a set of steps. It was a challenging set-up but we managed to make it work.
