The hotel and room were really nice, clean and stylish. I would definitely recommend staying here IF you have some sort of “business” in Newark (e.g. an event at Prudential, which is within walking distance). Newark is not exactly what I would call a “charming” town, and the general area is a bit sketchy. The staff were not particularly friendly (but from what I hear, that’s Jersey for you…), though they DID answer any question I had (they just make you feel that you need to be “apologetic” for “bothering” them…). Major plus - the cleaning crew came daily and even restocked shampoo/ shower gel, etc. Another major plus- the hotel has a shuttle that will take you to Penn Station (Newark). I would definitely stay here again if I came to the area, though it’s a shame that Newark isn’t exploiting its top strategic location close to Manhattan (20-minute Amtrak ride!!) and “cleaning up” the town a bit.
The bar closes way too early (as does any other restaurant in the area, including McDonald’s…). So don’t postpone trying to get something to eat until after a show at Prudential…

Great location, super stylish hotel. Staff were super helpful (shout out to Scarlet, Nicole, Juan and Steven!!) Scarlet and Nicole especially were so kind and accommodating when I asked for early check in after a looooong night at the airport. They got me in as soon as possible (which I completely didn't expect...I was in a clean, made up room by NINE!!) and came to get me to let me know while I was eating breakfast. Honestly such a blessing after a stressful airport experience. Couldn't be more pleased with my experience.
The breakfast could do with a bit more selection, although I understand that's technically separate from the hotel. Everything about the hotel itself was excellent though!

Vibe, location, staff, large bathroom, excellent shower. Boutique-like feel; nice renovation of a historic hotel. Nice having parking adjacent to property ($20/day). On-site restaurant. Nice having an in-room fridge.
A few minor, yet still annoying issues: Main doors into building is heavy, and actually difficult to open (especially with luggage). Elevator button in lobby is “sticky” and sometimes took longer than usual to “call” the elevator. For business travelers who need to work at in-room desk: desk is small and an “ottoman” is the chair (I did ask the Front Desk for a regular chair, and I did get one). Felt that the breakfast buffet cost of $18 is overpriced; other hotels with a similar offering often provide complimentary breakfast. AC controls in room: felt that it was either too cold or too warm; couldn’t quite get the right setting or fan speed. Outlet (for phone charging) is only on one side of the bed.

The free shuttle service from EWR to the hotel was easy to find after our long flight. Our driver was helpful and informative about the local area. We arrived a little before the scheduled check in time however they were able to accommodate an early check in. The room was spacious, bright and comfortable with a huge bathroom and shower. I was delighted to find complimentary coffee and water, a much needed pick me up before we headed out to explore. We timed it just right to catch the happy hour in the bar where we experienced yet more Trypp Hospitality from the friendly staff. A great start to our first time in Newark!
Nothing.

Location was good - 5 to 10 minutes walk to Newark-Penn Train Station, perfect for us intending to take Path train to NYC. The room looked new and spacious with comfortable bed and mattress. The bathroom was also roomy. Guarded carpark was right next to the hotel with reduced rates for guests, and there are quite a lot of spaces. There is also a good-vibe restaurant downstairs.
Not the best reception desk - although the staff tried to be helpful, there looked like a shortage of man power at the desk to handle telephone calls, baggage storages and check-ins all at the same time by just one person.

We had room 304. It was spacious, with a fridge, ironboard and a little desk with the coffeemaker. The bathroom was spacious too with a big shower. There were restaurants and stores in about 5 minute walking distance. Train station to NYC is in about 10 minutes walking distance.
I’ve sent questions via booking.com and by direct email and both never have been answered.

The hotel was within walking distance (about 10-15 minutes) to the Prudential Center as we were going to a NJ Devils hockey game. The room was clean, large, and had a beautiful view of NYC. The staff were very friendly and helpful explaining their parking policy, advising that we could walk to the game instead of paying for parking at the event. Checkout is at noon which was very helpful as I had to work a 1/2 day and was able to stay in the room.
Parking was $20. We only stayed one night so I am not sure if its $20 a day or a stay. Their parking lot was conveniently on the side of the building and has in and out privileges which was nice.

Comfortable bed. Room also had 2 Murphy beds, 1 over the other like a bunk bed. Good sized room. The hotel is only 4 blocks from the Prudential Place where our daughter was going to attend a concert. Very convenient for walking to the venue.
We arrived at the hotel shortly after 5 pm (checkin starts at 3). Our room wasn't ready yet. Had to sit in the lobby 15 minutes until the room was ready. Also, when we landed at the airport and called the hotel to ask about the free shuttle, they told us where to meet the shuttle. We got there and waited for almost a half hour and still no shuttle. Ended up using Uber to get to the hotel. The shuttle did take us back to the airport the next day.

Adequate queen room. Was supposed to be a king - had booked 2 months ahead for grandson grad at NJIT. Upon arrival the clerk's room list had the hotel sold out. For the next 25 min's she juggled incoming calls while explaining that early person had assigned all the rooms, not knowing if there would be no shows. Good shower tho my wife would've liked conditioner, rather than shampoo "combo." The small bed was not comfortable.
No coffee maker in the room. First morning we walked across the Military Park & Broad St. to the Starbucks. Second (check out morning) we bought $4 coffees in hotel's restaurant.

An older building with a lot of character fixed up in an artsy adjacent way. Walking distance from Newark Penn station.Quiet at a reasonable hour, comfortable bed, airport shuttle.
Staff was very friendly for the most part but guy at the desk when I checked in forgot to put the wifi info on my key card envelope. Took several calls and lots of ringing but when he finally answered he gave me the info as though this is normal procedure, with a hint of doing me a favor. Really? Mistakes are human but at least acknowledge…. Reminded me of restaurants during a drought serving water only on special request, which is reasonable if there’s scarcity but I am guessing there’s not a wifi drought in Newark. Not a huge deal and otherwise a good stay.
