The grounds and history of the building are fascinating and beautiful. The kitchen was not open while were were there--I look forward to eating there next stay. The food at the bar was fantastic--and my husband and I are both foodies! The breakfast--well, there was a coffee shop. It was fine. The hotel is beautiful and a pleasure to walk around and enjoy! The staff were friendly and helpful.

I really did not enjoy the plastic coffee cups, plastic utensils and breakfast from the coffee shop served in plastic containers. The hotel is beautiful and makes you feel spoiled but then you are drinking your morning coffee out of paper and plastic like you are staying at a cheap motel. The hotel just opened in March so I hope that they will replace their planet damaging and cheap feeling paper and plastic with real mugs and real utensils as they kick up to speed!

Very cool, interesting, and overall comfortable. Hotel staff was great. We needed assistance a few times and they were very accommodating. Location was perfect, the history and beauty was outstanding.

A small refrigerator is really necessary. Also, there is room for queen beds instead of doubles. That would have been much preferred. Our room was in need of repairs, which is always disappointing. Also, a luggage rack would have helped as there was really only one place to lay a suitcase open. The restaurant is not family friendly. But if you bring your own items in, again, there’s no fridge. This was not one of the better bars we’ve been to. Staff seemed untrained and not attentive. Other people may have been better served but we were not.

I really enjoyed my stay here, Easy to find as I was coming in from the South, We walked around the hotel once we arrived. We stopped in their bar,/ food had a small pizza as an appetizer with friends, and some drinks, the service was good. Easy parking, the front handicap door didn't work from the outside, however there's an elevator on the 1st level which made it easy to bring in our suitcases. Check in was just okay, the young lady with dark hair was not friendly at all. She gave quick directions to the room... (we got lost) however once I found it..my room was clean, the housekeeping service was friendly, the hotel was updated beautifully. I would stay here again. In the morning we got coffee and it was good coffee.

Check in, the young lady was not friendly at all

Perfect restoration…. Beautifully done . Great period architecture blended with modern day tech and conveniences. Rooms were comfortable and quietly stylish . Bathrooms simple and handsome . Dinner was the best !!! …. Wonderful chef . Service was professional and attentive. Front desk staff …hands down… the best ! Came to Buffalo to see the AKG Museum so location was perfect . Will come back for sure ! Wonderful Architecture exhibits on lower level …. Don’t miss it . Amazing video about the history of the buildings . Breakfast is a la carte in the cafe which makes so much sense .

There is no doubt it is if not the best then certainly the most unusual place to stay in Buffalo. The hotel is a 40-minute drive from Niagara Falls and is a landmark in itself. I and my girlfriend spent a couple of hours just walking around and taking pictures of each other. The new canopy over the entrance installed after the owners changed is actually not as ugly as we expected. The rooms are clean and renovated. Friendly front-desk personnel allowed us to iron my girlfriend's dress even after chick-out hours. High ceilings, modern coffee machine with a large selection of capsules. Big free parking on site.

No refrigerator. It's a must-have for every modern hotel, especially during the summer season. The front desk is located on the second floor, so you have to use an elevator or lift your luggage by hand using the stairs.

The location is next to a security fenced property. Not sure what it is for …. Possibly a drug rehabilitation compound. It might be a good idea to identify the property. It is in the back yard of Buffalo a state another property that should be identified in the description of the hotel. No issues in either but we were curious as to why neither was in the description. The Hotel has an identity crisis…. Part gothic revival and part European ultra modern boutique. It’s a bit underwhelming in the decor. Overall- it is a unique location and near the artistic areas of the city.

The greeting from the front desk was very bleak. She didn’t smile or make us feel welcome at all. The gentleman at the desk when we went to dinner was wonderful , friendly and helpful. We needed more than one pod of coffee in our room and he had it delivered while we were at dinner. Overall we will most likely stay again but will do our research about the adjacent facilities before booking.

Beautiful historic building that was saved from demolition to become a national landmark. The building retains much if it's original 1800's charm but is completely updated. The room we stayed in was new and clean and a/c worked fine. Very high ceilings make the room light and feel larger than it is. We had drinks at the bar and the bartender was wonderful and drinks sophisticated. Plenty of areas on Elmwood within easy walking distance to eat, shop, parks and tours. Stick to Elmwood, not much to see if you wander to Grant and keep in mind this is an urban area so you need to pay attention to your surroundings but overall we felt very safe. Check out the farmers market on Saturdays by Bidwell. You won't find a chain hotel on Elmwood not to mention one as iconic so the Richardson is perfect.

Nothing I didn't like. Wish I could've stayed longer.

the property is certainly different & quite interesting. probably not for everyone, but it worked for us. we walked to 3 quite close terrific museums & to Delaware Park, took a longer walk to the Martin House (FL Wright), walked to some very good restaurants & took a bus to downtown. The room was very clean & was straightened up each day. The building is, to say the least, unique. The bar is fun, good small plates & friendly staff. About a 20-30 minute drive from Niagara Falls.

Need to provide a bar of soap for the bathroom sink & as a tourist hotel, should have paper maps & local event magazines available. Need a formal, secure luggage storage area for storing luggage before or after check-in/out (we had no issue but I recommend this to management).

The aesthetic and vibe was unreal. Chose this place to have a good time and it definitely did not fail. Had a great time just walking around the grounds and facility. The room was great, clean and comfortable. I was left impressed and satisfied with the entire experience.

The only thing which did kind of let me down was there was no freezer/fridge, in the room. Finding the room after checking in was a little confusing, however I was explained how to get there properly - it's just a very old and large complex! Consider this when booking, if necessary.

We had no idea the history of this hotel when we booked it, so were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning — it's the perfect balance of luxury hotel and historic museum. It was so fun exploring the grounds while we were staying there, and next time we will absolutely do the hard-hat tour. It was just a beautiful place to stay. Very clean, the staff was lovely but not overbearing, and the rooms were stunning.

My only suggestion is softer beds. We found the beds to be way too firm and had trouble sleeping.
