The hotel is in a perfect location to be able to walk to everything downtown. The staff was very helpful and friendly, especially the valet Seth and the guest service girl in the evenings (sorry don't remember her name). Though a larger hotel, it feels more like a boutique, due to the personalized service.
Not a big deal really, but ice was only available at the front desk. They would bring it to the room for you as well, as with anything else you needed.

It seemed the Hotel was understaffed. The room was not ready when we arrived shortly after 3 p.m. We asked about cleaning the room the following day and were told they were short staffed, but would try. The Hotel is very nice. For the price, we expected better service. The Staff on duty was helpful, but it was understaffed. They tried very hard. Management needs to hire additional people.

The hotel location within downtown Asheville couldn't be beat. It was perfect for walking to everything downtown (breweries, restaurants, shops, patisseries, coffee houses). The staff were hospitable and friendly. We were greeted with a glass of champagne. The room was the most spacious hotel room we've ever stayed. The bathroom was a bit dated (maybe purposely), but again extremely generous in size. The water pressure was excellent. The bed was very comfortable, however, the pillows were much too soft for our taste. I love the history of the hotel and the fact that Haywood Park has kept it alive. Lastly, my husband forgot a few items in the closet. I phoned the hotel & spoke with the housekeeping staff. We received the items via FEDEX the next day.

Location, history, large rooms, glass of free champagne
construction directly outside of elevator on our floor- 4 workmen, ladders, cables and drop cloths everywhere pastries at restaurant for breakfast were over priced and not great $27 for 2 pastries and 2 cups of plain coffee was ridiculous spending half an hour on hold and never getting through to staff.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The hotel itself is very cute. The free breakfast at the onsite restaurant was also a huge plus. We had a very nice breakfast and cup of coffee for just a service charge. Excellent perk. However, they are currently doing construction near the flatiron building and so on Monday morning at about 7:00 a.m. construction started. This is nothing of the hotels doing and I think is just a function of staying downtown, but it's something to be aware of. It does seem like a lot of downtown Asheville is being redone and spruced up I'm a witch includes a bit of construction noise! We were offered free champagne at check-in and given little parting gifts. Everybody was incredibly kind and the room was very clean. We would definitely go back!

Location smack in the middle of downtown Asheville so you can walk everywhere! Built in a historic building, the hotel keeps some flair from the past business located inside.
Not worth the price, rooms are pretty dated, and there is nothing that is very luxury about it. Had a suite, that had less immenities than some normal rooms I have booked in other hotels. Shower was good but never had full pressure due to the tub leaking water out. Floors were dirty, as well. Room was a time machine back to the late 80s.

The atmosphere of this hotel was one of nostalgia and history. The main lobby has a nice fire place, sitting area, large plants, and even showcases a vintage Ford vehicle -- absolutely beautiful. Also a very nice touch are the old black and white pictures of the original department store being built. The different stages of building, plus the two different establishments it had been before it became a hotel (Bon Marché and Ivey's department stores). Very interesting and fun information. . When the elevator doors open, a woman's voice announces what floor you've reached, "Fourth floor, Women's Department", as a tribute to the department store the building used to be. The lobby area of each floor also housed a nice spacious sitting area and had glass display cases of mannequins wearing vintage style dress. . The room was large and spacious. The old style curved windows were beautiful. The bathroom was very large, sporting a bath/shower combo with sliding glass doors and whirlpool. And yes, even a TV in the bathroom! . The hotel is attached to what appears to be a mall of some sort. We only saw three other stores, and we didn't go upstairs. Also connected to the hotel is Isa's French Bistro -- very quaint, super friendly and helpful staff, and delicious food. And we were given breakfast vouchers for this bistro (yum!). . The staff at Haywood were all friendly and helpful, and the valet service was pretty great. Only took a few minutes and they'd have your car right out front for you. . The location of this hotel could simply not be more fabulous. You don't have to drive anywhere. You walk outside and the world opens up to you. All the little shops, unique and original, are fun and beautiful with very friendly faces and people eager to help. The entire area is so rich in history and so full of life. . Plenty of places to eat, drink, hang out and have fun.
TIP: Just be aware that certain weekends may cost upwards of twice (or more) the price of middle of the week, or even the weekend before or the weekend after. If your schedule allows for a little play, try different date ranges to get the best pricing.

The Bloody Mary and Lemon Lavender Mimosa were wonderful. The proximity to the hotel made breakfast convenient. The Hotel staff were professional, friendly and happy to assist with any request. I would highly recommend a stay here.
While the location ambiance and staff friendliness for breakfast was pleasant, I was disappointed that in a french bistro, there was not an omelette or crepe on the menu. Someone did not offer to clean our room until after 4:00 p.m. I only mention this to help others understand, that in these times patience is required, as everyone is short staffed. This did not interfere with our plans or affect our excellent opinion of the Haywood Park.

Location is FABULOUS: right in the center of downtown. Valet parking makes that central location work well, especially for us since our central location meant we needed the car only once during our two-day stay. Staff was extremely gracious and helpful, including offering us a glass of champagne or water when we arrived and sending us off with a small but appreciated snack. The beds were clean and very comfortable, and the room spacious. Our booking also gave us complimentary breakfast at Isa's Bistro, and there the food and staff were wonderful.
There were no views from our room: our two large windows looked out to a tall building 6 feet away. That would have been okay if we knew in advance, but in an earlier stay at Haywood Park Hotel we had been in a room in the main building that had a great view. The toilet had a tendency to run. I still am not sure whether I was charged for the valet parking (or how much).

The location was marvelous -- easy walks to lots of restaurants, interesting shops, etc. We did not use our car at all for the 2 days we visited. The Haywood Park Hotel is a former department store. On each floor, there are displays of manequins, and when the elevator arrived on the 4th floor, we heard "women's wear." Very amusing! Our room was HUGE, and the furnishings very comfortable. The staff was marvelous, and very helpful. (See below.)
The internet service was very s . . . l . . . o . . . w. In a city as wired as Asheville, the hotel should be able to provide better wifi. We had made reservations at one of the hotel restaurants (Isa's) for the night we arrived. I happened to hear when I checked in that the restaurant was closed due to understaffing, and would be closed the second night of our visit, as well. Not until mid-afternoon did a representative of the restaurant call to tell us that our reservations were canceled; they did offer a free meal at the other hotel restaurant. And the hotel manager delivered a split of very nice French Champagne that afternoon.
