When Amazon came in and built its headquarter’s in downtown Seattle, the city saw many of its unique and charming frontier town turned grunge establishments torn down and replaced by cookie cutter hotels. The people behind the Marqueen are instead carefully restoring a classic Seattle hotel in such a way that it retains its authenticity and quirky personality. This hotel is not for everyone There are no elevators, the floorboard squeak a bit, but it’s spectacularly charming. Rumors have it The Marqueen may even have ghosts! The spacious room had everything I needed - a very comfortable large bed, floor to ceiling drapes - beautiful big mirror, walking shower, enormous closet, tall ceilings and spotlessly - meticulously - clean. Though renovations are under way, that activity did not interrupt my stay in any way. Easy to get to by a short bus ride or monorail to the Seattle Center from downtown, the Marqueen is in a fun neighborhood that has good restaurants and cafes and attractions including Seattle Repertory. The Marqueen is a gem of a place and a great find. I highly recommend this hotel for a uniquely Northwest stay.

I wish I had stayed longer!

Room was great. The hotel was originally the training centre for Ford Motors and the rooms designed for their workers to stay in during the training, with their families. Our room had a large double bed, seating area, bathroom, kitchen and dining area. Loved Seattle and this location was great to get down to the harbourside. Breakfast in the Pub/bar connected to the hotel. Also ate their in the evening but it is open to the general public so big demand for tables.

Some building work going on. Not advised in advance - but this was the 3rd such place we stayed in for a 2 week break with building work happening. The building work did not disturb us in evenings or early morning and we were out all day.

I was in Seattle to attend several Hockey games at Climate Pledge Arena. The hotel is a 5min walk away and very close to restaurants and bars. The Space Needel is 10min walk and the whole area felt safe and nice even as a woman travelling alone. The hotel is old but has its own charm. I loved that the room had a small kitchen with a decent size fridge, coffee machine and utensils. The bed was super comfortable and the room, while dated in its furniture, was kept clean. The staff was super friendly and helpful, there are umbrellas to borrow and they are very helpful to give out information if needed. The hotel was quite pricey for what it offers but you pay for the location!

I had a room on the ground floor facing the main road. Those windows are not mirrored so I spent 9 days with my curtains closed for privacy otherwise I would have been on full display for everyone to see. The layout of the room was very weird, I had no real closet and the only room I had to hang up clothes was an utility room with a huge air ventilation unit and no dresser in the room to put in smaller items so I had to put everything in my nightstand drawers who luckily were large enough. If you put the heating on (or aircon in summer) you will need earplugs because that ventilation system is LOUD. The furniture is also very very dated, especially the couch was very sat through but when I was there I saw signs that they where refurbishing the hotel so that may change.

Even though Seattle is in Washington State, when I walked into the MarQueen Hotel where I was staying, it felt like I'd stepped into the atmosphere of the famous 'Hotel California' song. The hotel's vibe seemed to have this timeless and mysterious feel, similar to what's described in the song. As soon as I entered, it was like being transported to another era. The place had this old-world charm with dim lights and fancy decorations that made you wonder about its history. Despite being far from California, the MarQueen Hotel had this uncanny ability to make you feel like you were part of a captivating story, leaving a lasting impression of fascination and wonder. Marqueen has not paid me for this I wrote all about my travel to Seattle on my blog https://www.muzzytravels.com/destinations/usa/seattle

The beds were really really comfortable. We came after 3 weeks in a van and it was luxury comfort for us even though we were only there for a short time. The room was very beautiful also. Wished we had more time here, but we were just passing through Seattle and this was close enough to the train station when we arrived and a short Uber ride to the airport to leave.

We are travelling as friends and split the cost of the bill, we wanted to pay separately for the overall cost and the lady who checked us in didn't know how to do this. No big deal for us as we can send money to each others bank accounts but would be handy to have staff fully trained on all matters at check in. As I said not a big problem at all, but just something to think about.

Whether it was Giel or Andrew on shift, they would open the door when you arrive and when you leave. They had great recommendations for food and attractions. Ella Beth at the front desk was absolutely awesome. There is a great Mexican resturant in the same building. Easy walk to Climate Pledge Arena and the Space Needle. The room we stayed in had 2 Queen beds, super comfortable, great pillows, large room with kitchen and separate seating area.

Now this is getting picky because this place is really good...but it could use a couple more hooks in the bathroom and a mirror in the main area would be nice.

We loved this spaciousness of the apartment-like rooms and the history associated with this building. The thick walls made our room very soundproof despite being located directly over the street. They were undergoing extensive renovations at the time; we would love to visit when these are completed. The door man was so knowledgable and helpful (thank you again). We could leave our car parked and walk to the World's Fair Site (and therefore get to museums and take the monorail to Pike's Place) from here. We enjoyed a very good restaurant "Sal Y Limon" (twice!) just a few steps around the corner.

Fire alarm testing early in the morning as we were packing up to leave, could have been scheduled at a better time; this was fairly horrible and long lasting. Hopefully renovations will add a few more electrical outlets in the kitchen (ie for ease of using the coffee maker).

We liked the location. It is close to the Space Needle walking distance and many more attractions. It was just a short Uber trip to the Pikes Market Place and all the docks down that way. All the staff was very friendly and outgoing and respectful.

There is no off-street parking that we were able to access the car on our own. They do have a valet for 40 dollars a day, which is very nice. It is cheaper than having to find a place to park, and if you need something from the car, the valet person can take you down to your car.

The building itself is a beautiful old establishment; the lobby is a return to turn-of-the-century elegance. Our room had a very functional kitchenette and beautiful hardwood floors. There were several restaurants within convenient walking distance.

The bathroom was interesting; I'm average height, and the sink was so short it came about 2/3 the way up my thighs. My wife, who is a smidge over five feet tall, said it was too short for her (this never happens). Water pressure during my shower varied from "a little low" to "mild drizzle." The hardwood floors creaked with every step, and the furniture was beautiful antique wood but could use some refinishing.

Charming historic hotel. The room was huge and had a kitchen. Everything was exceptionally clean which surprised me for an older hotel. The hotel staff was the best I had ever encountered.(And I've stayed in a lot of hotels). The doorman was exceptional and a wealth of historical knowledge. Close to Kerry Park & The Space Needle etc. and a great Grocery Market and restaurants all within walking distance. They are in the midst of remodeling the hotel. But I hope they save most of those unique historic aspects that allow you to remember how it used to be.
