Hotel Boutique Casa del Coliseo

Casa del Coliseo is a quiet calming retreat from the bustle of old town Cartagena. The colonial Spanish architecture makes it feel like you’re inside someones luxurious villa and not a hotel. The staff was absolutely phenomenal! I got very sick upon arriving to Cartagena and they constantly checked on me and offered to call a doctor multiple times and seemed genuinely worried about my well-being. I also have severe dietary restrictions (celiac) (gluten free) and they were able to make my breakfast entirely gluten free and safe for me to eat. The roof top pool is a quiet retreat from the excitement down on the streets. The rooms are sound proof and it’s necessary on the weekends as the city is lively and out in full swing. I look forward to staying here again in the future.

Breakfast was delicious - so fresh and staff friendly and very kind. Also both night shift and day shift reception team were so so helpful and always gave us amazing advice and went above and beyond to help us. (Especially finding veggie restaurants for me!) we felt so safe and taken care of - there wasn’t a second we didn’t feel looked after. Also the room cleaning and turning down was so amazing not once did anyone knock on our door. We would leave and return and it would be clean or the doors and curtains closed like magic! Thank you so much!

The Space Bar night club outside our balcony was very very noisy most evenings towards the weekend until the early hours and could be heard through the shutters and doors. Also sometimes there would be a strange smell in the suite room but not sure why.

The hotel is beautiful. We enjoyed sitting in the public areas. There is great attention to detail in the decor. The rooftop pool was such a great place to be. The attention of the staff was also much appreciated.

The location was very disappointing as the hotel is located in the busiest part of town, next to a noisy cafe, blaring out music in the afternoon and just opposite a dico which seems to take over the noise in the evenings (not just at weekends). Although our room was just opposite the disco it was well insulated with triple glazed windows which really reduced noise levels. But the noisy surroundings didn't make for a relaxing stay.

Character, Staff were excellent. Food was beautifully presented and service amazing. Furnishings were very chic and matched the character of the building. It was more than excellent it was amazing and felt so comfortable and calm.

Nothing. It is a very quirky building with lots of character and different staircases. The only item that might enhance it a little would be a lift but not essential.

everything about this property was perfection - tastefully-decorated, well-designed and immaculate attention to detail. the service was impeccable as well. a true gem in the heart of Cartagena old town. I would recommend anyone to stay here and would 100% stay here again.

this is by no means a criticism, just an observation from room 301; we had a beautiful open-air shower which I thought was a brilliant use of the lightwell in the property in theory, but in practice we found surprises in the shower (eg leaves, flower petals, birds droppings) sometimes. it didn’t bother us too much but just something to keep in mind!

the location is unbeatable, right in the center of cartagena on a bustling street. it's down the block from popular bars like La Jugada and Alquimo and within walking distance of all the best restaurants like Carmen and Alma. the house itself is BEAUTIFUL. a colonial mansion converted into a hotel with different sitting areas, living rooms, and all sorts of nooks with couches and chairs to hang out. the rooftop pool was amazing, the water was the perfect temp and they can bring you snacks and cocktails if you ring the bell for service. the staff was also excellent. we were going to an island after checking out and they let me leave my luggage there overnight (even though we had already checked out) so that i didn't have to lug it all with me for a one night stay at Islas Rosario. DEF RECOMMEND!

the only negative i can say is that the hotel itself didn't have a bar or a restaurant, but with so many places to go a few feet away, it didn't bother us.

There's a lot to like. The location is excellent even though the street can become quite busy. Our room was towards the street, but the isolation was great. The room had all the necessary amenities. The service was impeccable. The staff helped us with suggestions concerning things to do and see, and even some paper copies we needed for an administrative matter. Overall, professional and welcoming. There was no breakfast buffet, but one needs not to worry; there is enough (tasty) things on the menu. We really enjoyed the rooftop pool, and the extra plus is that the building itself is beautiful. All in all, a terrific place to stay.

The noisy street is hardly the hotel's fault...

Everything was amazing. Great location. Staff and service exceeded our expectations. Martin, in particular, helped us with amazing restaurant and tour suggestions and bookings. Thanks to him, our stay in Cartagena was fantastic. Breakfast and food in general were great. The hotel is spotless. Rooms are really comfortable.

Nothing at all

I love the friendliness and kindness of all the staff there. Also, I love the colonial and historic styles of the hotel. The bed is very comfy. The bathroom shower is very good.

I think breakfast choices are not such a variety. Also, there is no English language described in each menu. The assistants cannot communicate in English well.

extremely helpful and friendly staff, helped me with everything I needed. And the owner came to welcome me and my dogs personally; she gave them treats and provided water bowls and additional towels for my dogs .
