Holiday Inn Dresden - Am Zwinger, an IHG Hotel

My flight was cancelled so I had no choice but to arrive 24 hours late. I had messaged through Booking.com and they didn’t seem to get my message. When I did arrive I was rushing to make a booked tour but the staff member could not find my booking, was quite rude and it felt annoying. I had missed my time in Dresden and was being further delayed with extra stress being thrust at me. Once he located the booking (it took a while) it was a pleasant stay.

I am not sure but I am not clear how communication via booking.com is conveyed to the properties. It seems to have worked every other occasion. It seemed my non appearance triggered a cancellation. It was frustrating as it was beyond my control, I had messaged and had to pay for both nights anyway.

The stuff was really great and helpful: they have satisfied all our requests like a vegan-menu for my mom, room on the higher floor etc. They are really customer-oriented and friendly. The breakfast was fantastic for the 4-star hotel, one of the best breakfasts I've ever had at the hotel: diverse menu including a LOT of cheese of different kind, hot dishes, variety of fruits and so on. But the most great thing is its location: just 3 minutes walk from Zwinger and Semperoper (we saw even Zwinger from our hotel room!), that's why, you don't need a public transport at all (exceptions could be only if you want to see a Dresdener Molkerei in the Neustadt or to take a Dresden Suspension Railway).

The costs of parking at the hotel are pretty high, but not higher than other hotels. But there is a great alternative in the near (5 minutes of walk) - park house at Semperoper (Contipark), where you can park just for 6 Euros per night.

I stayed for one night. The room was nice and clean. It was very warm there, so I had to turn off the heating. A kettle did not work so it was replaced within minutes. The breakfast is very good. They have some fitness room but it was very limited in terms of equipment. In a walking distance to Zwinger, Opera and Old town, so it is a super location if you want to explore the city.

The parking costs 17 euro. A bit too much. If you come for the weekend, it is cheaper to leave a car in the street. I was lazy, so I paid to the hotel :) The smell in the corridor was a bit weird, but in the room I did not feel it.

We loved that you could easily walk to all main attractions, restaurants and shops in the Old Town. There is also tram 11 close by to go across to the New Town. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious enough and comfortable. We loved having a desk and small refrigerator. The balcony was a great addition as we could open the doors to sleep at night. If you ask for a room on the side rather than the main street you can see the many spires on the Royal Palace and churches.

The bathroom was very small but it did make good use of the space and there was good lighting and plenty of shelving under the basin.

As this price hotel, the room amenity is execlent, the room is clean and its space is enough. A comfortable AC is available. Breakfars is much greater than I expected. Various dish including warm dish are available. It is taken care to be refilled constantly.

No complimentary water is available. The location is a 10 minites walk from the palace, close enough, but it is a bit dark approach in the night.

Great location - 10 minute walk to the city centre, tram and bus stop nearby. Room was quiet and clean, with comfortable bed and good shower. Overall it's a very good hotel.

The only thing I didn't like was the glass door of the bathroom (it's pretty common in German hotels) - it's ok in a single room but with someone else in the room, light wakes you up every time the other person goes to bathroom at night.

Breakfast outstanding, bountiful and wide variety to choose from! Staff Terrific. Restaurant very convenient. Monday substitute chef much better than regular chef. This is the way a hotel should be!

Mattress hard - but not a problem. Towels almost thread bare - no a problem, but unexpected. For a US Chain property, very little in English - unexpected but no problem/

Breakfast was good, the location was also very central, around 5minutes walk from the Dresdener zwinger. Staff was really helpful, they even changed the room which was assigned to us initially when we asked for replacement for a reason.

The room size was smaller than what I expected for the price, there were no amenities/facilities like Sauna was closed despite the covid regulations were allowing it. Few lights of the room were not working, TV was also not working.

The location is great, the staff is helpful.

I didn't like the fact that the windows couldn't really be opened. I would have preferred fresh air to air conditioning. The property refused to provide an invoice for my stay "because I booked using Booking-com". This was a business trip and I had paid for myself and 5 other guests.... Now I can't get the money back because of that. That's the first time ever it happens to me in a Holiday Inn, and believe me, it is also the last... since I couldn't get an invoice, I have to rate negatively the value for money!

Perfect Location. Just a 3 min walk you can visit the Zwinger and the old city of Dresden, just amazing. Near the tram and bus station, just a 5 min walk. The breakfast is great. Comfort bed and clean room. The guys at the reception are very helpful and polite. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Just being in a room with a road view, was a little bit noisy at night.
