Moon Palace Nizuc - All Inclusive

Plenty of options for everyone.

Shame about the sea water, also I think transfers to the other palace resorts should be free to all residents and not just elite club members.

Staff was excellent, food was great. Great use of space pools and restaurants never felt crowded.

Wish some of the bartenders had a little more knowledge of drinks.

1. Beach not fitting for resort- way too sea weedy 2. Small opportunistic efforts to take small usd leaves very bad taste in mouth eg taxi to airport through resort $65 but via booking $30 3. Impossible to book restaurant and App not fit for purpose

Everything what right there! There was so much to do, we are even going back with our kids

The ocean was not something you could lay by it was pretty dirty actually.

Excellent staff. Very clean. provided excellent transportation from room to main hotel and sister hotel.

Too few dining options. As advertised, expected more choices. unclear that some facilities at ‘Moon Palace’ GRAND were off limits to guests of “Moon Palace’ Nuzuc or Sunrise.

Twin beds are small and not comfortable. Not enough electrical receptacles and the shower drained very poorly

A really superb property for a week's family break - the facilities, food, staff and entertainment were spot on. Great for kids and adults. I'd be nitpicking if I was looking for negatives. We bought a fistful of $10 bills which seemed to be about the right amount to tip the people serving you drinks all day by the pool or meals in restaurants. Everything there is done through the App - if you can't book restaurants (it only allows you to book today/tomorrow and the ones you need to book seem to be permanently full) dial 0 on your room phone and book through reception. If you are coming from England at the end of winter watch the sun, it is lethal - especially if windy/cloudy as you won't notice the burn so much. The playrooms are a great way to get out of the midday sun (including wired lounge for teens). Find a reputable taxi service on tripadvisor for airport shuttle, it is much cheaper than through the hotel, but make sure the driver checks at the gate which hotel you are checking in to (we went to wrong lobby). The shuttles around the resort are really helpful, but walks aren't far. If you can get a room on a higher floor you will have less mosquito bother. Public relations desk very helpful sorting out a PCR for us. We did one trip through the hotel - it was probably more expensive than through the internet, but as easy and well run.

You don't know if you are staying in Nizuk or Sunrise until you get there - all pictures on here are of balconies with hammocks (we saw about 2 people using hammocks in a week) - these only exist in Sunrise, so ending up in Nizuk feels a little like being treated a second class citizen- don't worry, all in all we think Nizuk was probably better, the pool less crowded, the show amphitheatre more engaging and staff less harassed. People put towels on sun loungers from 6am - however the hotel has a policy that you can only reserve them for an hour, so if you are hanging around ask the staff to clear a few for you - they are happy to do this.

My partner and I liked the variety of food available and the 24/7 room service was a nice touch. It was easy to get around the resort and they have regular shuttles to different sections (there are 3 resorts linked together at this location). Everywhere was very clean, masks and sanitizer was available and required for restaurant areas which made us feel safer. Staff was readily available and helpful with anything we needed. They also made getting the PCR COVID test done very easy on-site with official results emailed to you within 15 minutes. The app provides all the information you need about the resort facilities.

The check in process was ridiculous (4+ steps) and included an invite from the concierge to a "special breakfast" for at the Grand section of the resort for which they only have limited reservations - Beware - this is a sales pitch for their membership time share. Don't go unless you want to waste half a day of your vacation. We only initially said yes so they would finally let us go to our room after a full day of travel but am so glad we cancelled after hearing how it went for people staying near us. The main pool can be hard to find a chair unless you go in the morning or really late. Avoid peak meal times unless you want to wait an hour+ in long lines.

The pools are fantastic, there are many across the complex, they're huge and surrounded by bars and small restaurants, and the entertainment team does a lot of fun activities on them. Food and drinks are very good and easily available everywhere. Transportation inside the complex is fast and convenient. Our room was beautiful, comfortable, and perfectly stocked. All the lobbies and interior areas are huge, beautifully decorated, and filled with activity all the time. There are more things to do inside the complex than you can do in a week, we went for 5 days and still missed a lot of stuff. The personnel is lovely and always looking to help.

The seaweed situation on the beach is by far the worst I've ever seen (and I grew up in the Caribbean), so much so that there is basically nobody in the water except for people doing paddleboard or kayaking. The rations at the a-la-carte restaurants tend to be small. At Los Caporales restaurant I was served an entree literally consisting of 3 regular meatballs and a spoonful of rice with sauce. It was delicious but we had to check the buffet after that :D. The night shows at the amphitheater are fun and the artistic team does a great job but this is far from being a true cabaret show like I've seen in many other resorts, the production aspect of it is a bit poor.

The jacuzzi bath. The cocktails, in particularly in the pub in Nizuc. The staff were all really welcoming.

The size of the place - just too spread out for me. I would like for my room to be within a maximum of a 5 minute distance of the bar and restaurant and reception etc. The location is a little further from the Hotel zone than I realised when initially booking. I think Booking.com should make it clearer that there are 3 hotels on same complex so to know what you are choosing initially.
