One of the many hotels just steps away from Hakata railway station. Plenty to eat nearby, and really just 3 minutes or so on foot from the railway station. The breakfast, which is Japanese style (rice and soup plus about a dozen small portions of accompaniments), is outstanding.
Very small rooms, though this was not a surprise. Also, I assume most guests are Japanese - the staff aren't that fluent in English.
