Hotel Rockaway

It’s a really great location on Zicatela beach - easy to get to many of the other key Puerto Escondido beaches and sights and the pools are lovely and the perfect temperature and close enough to not be a worry for a quick dip whenever you feel like it. The room itself was comfortable, spacious and clean, well cleaned and maintained and a perfect hideaway from the heat of the day. The daily (included) breakfast is also nice, and easy to try it all over time. We did pay to upgrade after our first night, however (see below).

It’s otherwise perfect, but people should be very aware if they opt for the (very good) beach view that Zicatela parties *all* night (like, until 4am-ish) at a high, throbbing volume, and the glass on the beach-facing windows is single glazed and can’t keep the sound out. Be prepared to party, take earbuds, or ask to change rooms! Not the hotel’s fault, ultimately, but visitors should be aware.

The hotel is in one of the best parts of the city close to bars and restaurant and on the first street right next to the beach. The staff is nice but they are a little slow which isnt a problem really , after all it is a small relaxed city. The pictures arent exactly the same as it appears in the real life but I must say that rooms are modern and clean and lots of space and everything works fine so no complaints there.

nothing in particular we didnt like but there is obviously room for improvement as some parts of the hotel show a little old and tear and the wait time for the breakfast is about an hour (no kiddning).

We initially booked a standard room and slept the first night in it. However, we found the bed quite small, the AC loud and the bathroom tiny. Thus, we decided to upgrade to a deluxe room and it was a great decision. The room was spacious, with a super comfortable bed and a big nice bathroom. The location is excellent in Zicatella. The pool area is well taken care of, really pleasant. Breakfast was also very good.

The "standard" of the standard room, specially the tiny bathroom with a door that let sound pass completely, i.e., zero privacy. Therefore, we upgraded to a deluxe room. The standard option might be okay for one person. For pairs, I definitely recommend a deluxe room.

The included breakfast was really nice. Every morning they served us coffee and juice, fruit with yogurt and granola, followed by a selection from the breakfast menu. We had a choice of: chilaquiles, pancakes eggs bacon, omelette, or stew of the day. Two pools were both great and they cleaned them daily. Room was very clean. The bed was more comfortable than my bed at home. I have stayed at 5 different hotels in Puerto Escondido and Rockaway was the only one where the bed included a down comforter. Most hotels in the area just give you a sheet or thin blanket. The hotel felt secure and safe. The only way in is walking by reception which made me feel that no random non-guests could wander in. The air conditioning worked great. Wifi worked great as long as we were out in the middle/pool area or on our balcony. Lots of very attentive and friendly staff. Nice pool lounging chairs. nice outside shower to rinse off after beach or surf.

The only thing I could think of to add would be a palapa with a view to check the surf. But it was no problem to walk 1 minute out to the beach to check the surf in the morning.

The location is right on the beach, next to resturants, beachclubs, shops. Very convinent. Our hotel room was huge, the bathroom is very big and comfortable. The A.C is perfect- super cold! The t.v has Netflix, youtube connection which was fantastic! The staff was very nice, English speaking, helpful and quick. The fact the hotel had a whatsapp made it easier to communicate without going to the lobby for small questions. The pools are nice, you can have your breakfast and additional meals right next to them. Our room had a nice balcony, viewing to the pools. The gym is nice as well! The wifi is okay! There is also a parking around for our scooter. Hot water in the shower also. There is a water bar at the lobby so you can fill up more water everyday. There are many good thinga about this hotel. This is not a fancy hotel but it has many thing.

Breakfast- we waited 40-45 minutes for a simple breakfast and no one explained what happened until we asked. Our waitress answered in Spanish and another client helped with translating. This was not professional. The breakfast in general is very simple, but yet there are many options on the menu. It okay in total, but nothing special. The structure of the hotel is quite weird. complex, with many stairs going to different direction, like a maze but that is fine. Getting to your room is mostly throught the slippery pool area. Consider this If you come with an Alzheimer's sufferer.

Great location in the heart of Zicatela. It's close to all of the bars and restaurants in the center area, and the beach is just across the road. The hotel was clean, the beds were comfortable, the AC worked well. The staff were friendly and helpful. We arrived a couple of hours before check-in and the staff were able to store our luggage for us while we waited.

My one complaint is totally outside of the hotel's control, and is just the nature of the location. While it was wonderful that we were in the heart of Zicatela, it was LOUD at night. We had a king room with a balcony that faced the main road, and the noise didn't stop until 4 a.m. I would stay there again, but I would ask for a room that does not over look the main road. The beach view wasn't worth the lack of sleep.

I liked that the hotel staff was friendly and quick. Every time we had an issue, they came. They didn't really fix the problem but they came quickly. Breakfast was good!

I didn't like that we arrived in the morning, and they said we had to wait until 15 to check-in. They could say if the room is available, they will call us. It bothers me because the receptionist repeated it several times. And I get it, but you could say it once and add that if it were available earlier, you would call. The staff doesn't speak English very well.

Initially, having the sea view was amazing. But after the club launched up in front of the room, I couldn't sleep at all and my 'sea view room' became quite the nightmare. Thankfully they had another room to change me to, but I wish hotels would be more transparent about what the room is like prior to giving it to you. For some it may be perfect to have a club in front so they can stumble home from it, but for me, this is not what I wanted the sea view room for.

The obnoxious club music.

Miguel was the best. After a very frustrating journey down, he met us with positive energy and lifted our spirits immediately. The rooms were clean and really beautiful. Free breakfast was on point. Not your American continental breakfast by any means. Fresh squeezed juices and clean food.

I honestly have zero complaints. I loved it, and we will definitely be back.

Good location,nice swimming pool

We asked for quiet room, but the lady at the reception gave us room next to the bar where it was loud music all the day till the late night.We asked for some other room, which is not so close to the bar,but we were told, that there is no availability (what was not true as we realised later on).The receptionist told us that, if we want quieter room, we must pay for it 500MXN per day more.So at the end we had overpriced room for which we paid much more in comparison with that one confirmed by Booking.I don t like such behaviour of the hotel,it is not correct.
