Our travel goal was to not be exposed to all the tourist attractions and noise of bars but be more close to the nature and this was the right spot for that. I personally enjoyed the ocean breeze noise being present and watching the sunrise. We rented a car and somehow the bumpy road leading to the house was part of our adventure we wished for. It underscores the beauty of staying off grid.

What the owner cannot influence much is the amount of plastic and trash carried by the sea. It was nice that Anna took the trash we collected once to dispose of it.

We had a great stay and can only highly recommend the accommodation! The location Is great - it’s quiet and directly at the beach. Also the kitchen is great and well equipped. Juan and his wife are super friendly!

The mattresses weren’t the newest ones and some of the furniture (hammock and chairs) were also a bit overused. But still I would 100% recommend the accommodation!

Lovely to be somewhere away from the main tourist filled coast and be able to walk straight out onto the sand. More thought has been given to sustainability than other places we stayed - eg some seawater in taps, recycling bins, able to reduce use of fans by having flyscreens to allow cooling by natural breeze by leaving doors open.

We didn't have any problems navigating the sandy/potholed road to get there in a hire car in dry weather, but wonder if it would be challenging for less experienced drivers after heavy rain?

I think that people that book Casa Kayab need to be prepared that this house is located quite a distance from town on a very bumpy road (but the hosts gave us a taxi drivers number named David and he was AMAZING!!!) There is no hot water, no safe, and no room key. BUT, if you are looking for solitude, beauty and simplicity, you will find it here. I want to bring my kids here next year. The hosts were AMAZING! You can walk on the beach without seeing another sole sometimes. The ocean is probably 20 yards from your room. If you like camping, consider this GLAMPING! I would highly recommend this house but not for fussy people.

If I could make one suggestion to the owners...replace the mattresses. The mattress we slept probably was missing some springs so it was very uncomfortable. But...again, we LOVED staying at Casa Kayab!

There is nothing fancy about this accomodation, it's just about you, sea and white sand between your toes. Bed is comfy, kitchen well equipped. Anne is very nice and helpful. Of course is the road bumpy, you are in nature reserve. But if you know how to drive, is really no problem to get there. And of course there is only cold, sweet-salty mixed water, you are in the middle of nothing.

There are some small things that can be improved, but nothing important. And the huge fan is very loud.

This place is adorable. It is great for the traveller who is looking to go off the beaten path (literally) and enjoy the beach with an adorably warm hearted family. The water is cold. There is garbage on the beach (welcome to developing countries unfortunately) and the accommodations are simple. But if you want a place to relax beachfront away from tourists with the kindest hosts ever, this is for you.

Great stay. Most incredible location, right on the beach. Very nice owner who has recommended us some nice places around. Access to kitchen. Basic, but really acceptable room.

Water pressure/lack of running water/lack of hot running water problem. We were staying just one night, so not a big deal for us. Also, the road to the property is really bumpy. In case of rain, please think twice if you want to drive smaller (than let's say SUV) car there or if you want to walk last 2-3km.

I highly recommend this place. I love the house, communal kitchen, the mellow and warm staff, our 2nd story room with a beautiful view of the beach, palm trees and crashing waves, the tranquility gained by being away from the town. We went snorkeling with Plancha down by the lighthouse and saw amazing reef, fish and sting ray. We took our own gear and went kiteboarding about 1/2 mile to the north towards the big hotels where the beach is more sandy. If the waves are too big for swimming at Casa Kayab where there are some rocks on shore, that's a good place to get in the water for a swim. The house has running water and electricity but since this is off the grid, it's necessary to be mindful of conservation. The host Sebastian provides purified water for drinking in the kitchen. He is a good soul.

The the dirt road leading to town has large flooded areas that are possible to drive through but a bit intimidating for newcomers.

great little place right on the beach away from tourists. Friendly hosts served up a fantastic feast for breakfast. great opportunity to watch the sunrise right from the bedroom patio door.

This is an off grid eco environment - at the end of a sandy bumpy road - it’s PERFECT! The quiet is only broken by birds and the crashing waves of the sea is just beautiful. A short drive to the town with lots to do. Juan and his team are just amazing.
