Nice staff, clean, the common areas looked really cool (didn't really use them since I checked in late and checked out early the next day), would have like the location which is a bit outside of the city center, but...

... currently there's a road closure due to construction between the hostel and the city center (where the bus / train / ferry / tours go from) and the detour is a pain in the ass on foot with a heavy bag. Tip: If you come with the Intercity bus and the driver asks if someone wants to get off at Nelson Square / Sequoia Lodge: do that

This motel/lodge is a little way from the train and ferry station. It is run by a super-friendly and helpful couple who make fresh scones for breakfast. Additionally, they will pick you up from the terminal or train station if you make arrangements with them. Our room was comfortable and had a great view of the Harbor. There is a clean, well-supplied kitchen and at least four comfortable communal rooms. Also tables and chairs to sit or eat outside. The price is very reasonable too. They are storing our luggage while we go on a five day hike.

The room was small so there are only a few hooks to store clothes.

This was a great “backpackers” hotel with individual rooms and shared bath. It was clean and well appointed. It had a relaxing hot tub as well as ping pong, game room etc - a great place for families. The kitchen was set up to encourage interaction among guest and provided plenty of space and refrigerators for your own food. There were lots of options for seating so people could be alone if they wanted. The owners were great in communicating ahead of time, and kindly provided a ride to the city center to catch my boat ride in the morning. The fresh scones in the morning were a treat.

Though the location was great when getting off the ferry it was a bit of a walk to town center - not a big deal but not a comfortable part of town to be walking through alone as a solo female traveler.

Perfect location if you're travelling with a ferry and arriving late. It's a 2-min drive from the ferry terminal, so even though I arrived close to midnight, I was able to find my bed quickly. Easy access. Excellent value for money. I only stayed for the night, so didn't explore the place much but saw that there was a pool & table tennis option, so probably a nice place to hang out.

Parking off street is very limited. I arrived late and first drove around for a few minutes to locate the two parking lots, but both were full. Others arrived just after me and were trying to do the same. We then ended up parking on the street, which wasn't my preference since I was moving houses and had lots of valuables in the car. In the morning, before checking out, I was politely asked to move my car off the street because apparently, the neighbouring properties don't like this. Luckily no issues during the night, but it sounds like this is an ongoing issue there. Breakfast was provided but don't expect too much, it was scone (bit dry) & jam and tea/coffee.

What a pleasant surprise this little gem was. We had an ensuite apartment which overlooked the spa area and township. Rooms and facilities are in nooks and crannies split over different levels … lush green landscaping and very comfortable room. Shared facilities were clean and well appointed and fresh scones for guests in morning were a treat!

Nothing … it was great. .. but if you are like us and arrived late you may have to park on the street which we didn’t mind at all in our old van but might weigh up if you drive something more precious to you

The location is ideal for the ferry crossing to the North Island. We had an en suite room which was perfectly functional with a balcony that looked over the Bluebridge terminal and towards the harbour. It was very good value for money and a bonus was the tea, coffee, toast , preserves and freshly made hot scones offered for breakfast free of charge. Gary was very friendly and approachable and easy to talk to. There are various room to relax in and activities to do within the place. I would highly recommend the place.

There is nothing to dislike about the property.

An interesting, quiet, elevated location allowing a pleasant view of the port. All common spaces were generous, where guests could feel uncrowded. Decor was both interesting & artistic. All facilities were spotlessly clean. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped with good condition dishes, cookware & utensils. The spa was a treat - and what an overlook! The room had sufficient places to place luggage & hooks to hang clothes. Staff were warm & welcoming. Best but not least were the daily freshly-baked breakfast scones.

Not a thing.

It has a very homely vibe which is nice. Clean kitchen with clean pots and utensils. Has a pool table, gym equipments, table tennis table, darts, lounge room with tv and movies. There’re 2 adorable cats and a dog that roam freely in the dining area! Stayed in a 6 bedder but room is spacious enough with extra storage shelf and the other occupants were neat and quiet. Bed is comfy! Toilet/bathrooms are clean. Overall, I had a great stay and would recommend this hostel!

Located on a slope beside a cemetery. It has nice view of the town but hard to get up with my luggage. Would not be a problem if you’re carrying a backpack Would be good if there’s privacy curtains for each bed.

I like the location, close to the ferry. The room was a reasonable size and had a balcony with chairs. Our room had it's own private bathroom. Downstairs was a large dining area and fully equipped kitchen. There was 2 lounges, games room, gym,hot tub, garden. Homemade Scones and toast were available for breakfast. I would definitely recommend this motel.

There was nothing about the motel that I did not like. There is a bit of noise from the ferry port and there is a 20 minute walk to the town.

The location next to the Bluebridge ferry terminal was ideal. Gary was the perfect host. He booked a boat and hiking trip and a wine tour for us which were great. His restaurant recommendations suited us. There's a very relaxed vibe about the place and the freshly baked scones are worth getting up early for. I like to think we left as friends and would highly recommended it.

It's a budget backpackers motel so don't travel with as much luggage as we did.
