Parklands Motel

We stayed at Apartment no. 1. It looked like recently refurbished and provided excellent value. Its not your typical motel room that one expects, and so it exceeded our expectations very much.

Nothing really

Nice size room. Comfy bed. Good toiletries, towels fine, good fridge. Comfy couch. Lots of room for luggage.

I've checked and rechecked and I can't see any mention of this place also being a camp ground. Balls kicked into rooms by kids in tent opposite our room. Waking up to people BBQ breakfast right outside your room. The only way to reduce the summer temperature in the room was to open both doors. So it was a choice of no privacy or being boiling. We were in Te Anau to see everything so literally only slept and made sandwiches there but if chilling out is important to you this would not be the place.

The use of a kitchen and laundry facilities was very handy. The kitchen was very well stocked so making our meals was easy. There was a clothes line for hanging clothes outside to dry which was very convenient. The property was quiet and well located.

It would have been perfect if we could have had two doubles rather than a twin and a queen. Even two twins. I don’t know why the configuration when asking for two beds is to have a single and a queen. We are two women traveling together and we both want our own bed.

Great value for money! Came with all the amenities and more that one could ask for - including a laundry room with a clothesline and shared kitchen with all the cooking utensils you might need! We were able to save heaps by cooking at home with the stove using the provided pots and pans, but if you’re in the mood to eat out, you’re only a short 7 minute walk away from the restaurants and the local FreshChoice supermarket - very close to the waterfront too. The room was in pristine condition and the staff were lovely - couldn’t recommend this place enough!

The managers or owners were helpful and kind. Think the lady is Shona.

The handbasin plug was stuck with water in it on the last day, which made it very difficult with packing and cleaning up, and prepping for our trip that day, but that was no fault of the owners or staff, just normal wear and tear. Even the cleaning lady could not get it to pop back up. We were leaving that morning anyway.

The location was excellent. Right in the middle of town, walking distance to lots of cafes & restaurants. Facilities were great with a lovely kitchenette lounge/dining room with a sweet Jack n Jill table & chair to enjoy the subsets on.

I'm not sure if there is carpet in the upstairs room, but unfortunately, you could hear every footstep or suitcase being wheeled across the floor.

The room was large and comfortable with a small table to sit at next to the heater and kitchenette and a couch to relax on. A great place to stay during our visit. It snowed while we were there and the room was quite comfortable despite the weather.

The shower had no basin to contain the water which seems to be a design choice by the builder but not something I'm fond of.

The location is excellent. You are able to walk through the park to the main street of Te Anua. Although the motel is old it certainly was very clean and everything you needed. the room we stayed in had a kitchen, loungeroom and dining room with the bedroom all in one central area. The owners were very friendly and helpful with information regarding the area.

Everything apart from a strange feeling I got from the owner. Would have given a 10/10 if I wasn’t under the impression that the man didn’t like us (for no reason), he seemed unfriendly since the beginning and every time I came across him he tried to avoid saying hi. Very weird. The woman though was very friendly and always said hallo as we came across her.

We loved this motel! They’ve thought of everything here to provide a comfortable, easy, convenient stay. Our room was big and new, and nicer in person than what we expected from the pictures. It was great to be able to park right in front of the door, there are laundry facilities (and clotheslines!) and a trampoline, and the roses all around the property are gorgeous. Great location too, walking distance to everything in town. Definitely recommend.
