The Hoxton, Poblenou

Very stylish fun vibe. Breakfast buffet is amazing (though it costs extra). Nice roof bar. Really comfortable beds.

Check in took forever. There was a line and then when it was our turn it took a long time to check us in. I know they have to take the passport info for international guests but for some reason it took much longer than it did at other hotels. The neighborhood was described as a hip area, but I found it to feel like a business area with lots of big glass high rises and a big shopping mall. In fact, I was surprised when we arrived because the hotel itself looked like an office building from the outside. I preferred the El Born area (which was the other neighborhood we stayed in). If you are super comfortable jumping on the metro or taking taxis then it might make sense, but for travelers wanting to walk everywhere it might be a tad out of the way.

The location is little far from main attractions (everywhere is 10 euros per taxi) not a walking distance, there is not much around besides a shopping Mall

The decor of the hotel is beautiful and the small touches in the room are very well thought out.

You have to pre book sunbeds or cabanas and there is a minimum spend for these. The amount I paid for the room I’d like to think we don’t have to pay for a sun bed.

I really enjoyed my stay. Everything was very clean and well kept. You can tell The Hoxton is trying to set a standard and reputation. My room was spacious for one person and big enough for my two bags of luggage. The bathroom was spacious and only featured a shower; the bathroom was very spa like. The water was always hot with good water pressure. I wasn't too sure how to flush the toilet and felt like I wasted a lot of water - no bidet. My room was always neat, clean, and organized when I returned from a full day of exploring, which was very appreciated. Please tip your housekeepers! There was a nice sized TV with Spanish channels. The room features black out curtains, which I liked as I was jetlagged during my second day. Overall a very comfortable room! Do not forget your European wall plugs! The food/drinks at their restaurants was affordable. I preferred the Italian restaurant on the first floor to the rooftop food (Mexican inspired). The rooftop was beautiful with refreshing drinks, a decent sized pool, nice breeze, and views of the surrounding area. They played good music. Definitely a vibe. The lobby featured a live DJ on some nights, which was a cool feature. There are tons of young people from around the world hanging around to meet other people. It was very welcoming. This hotel is located close enough to the Gothic quarter via the Metro. I prefer a quieter stay away from the busy, touristy areas. Please keep that in mind if you are looking to stay close to exciting night life or the beach. There was shopping (Zara, H&M, etc) right across the street, which I liked. I felt very safe in this part of Barcelona. Everyone speaks English very well. I did not have trouble communicating with the staff. They even let me practice my broken Spanish with them. They were very accommodating, making recommendations of how to use the metro and calling a taxi for my departure.

Upon arrival, the hotel did not have my reservation, which I booked through Booking.com. I was in distress because I got all the confirmation emails. However, it was just a glitch with their system. The "internal reservation" department was able to verify my stay and I was checked in. If you are booking through a third party site, I would recommend calling ahead of time to confirm your reservation. Other things to keep in mind: There are no washcloths, so I had to use a hand towel to take a shower every day. There is no currency exchange at the hotel. The elevators have no up button (except on the first floor) - not sure what that's about. Check your alarm on the radio, one of the housekeepers turned on my alarm and I was surprised at 8AM the next day!

Staff for the most part really friendly and met expectations. Pool staff are all absolute lovely (esp Fernanda!). Pool and rooftop area especially nice. Hotel lobby / bar beautifully decorated Room and bathroom both spacious and super clean. AC absolute blasting at 19’C at all times was fantastic!

No cupboard space so you can’t really unpack. There is an “open wardrobe” (clothes rail) but would prefer some drawers or a cupboard so you don’t have to live out of your bag. Had an issue with my baggage so I had absolutely nothing for 1st 48 hours. Had to beg front desk staff to lend me a phone charger when they said I had to charge behind the desk - was desperately trying to find my luggage with a dead phone

Great design, friendly and helpful staff!

Everything! It’s in a quiet neighborhood that’s conveniently across the street from a mall and food court. It was especially nice coming back to after a long day of running around. The bed was comfortable and the room was nice and chilly. The metro is also just a 3 min walk. They helped us call a taxi the morning of our checkout. We would absolutely stay here again!

You could hear the music coming from either the rooftop or bar downstairs but we managed to tune it out during their busier nights. It was only ever loud during the weekend which is to be expected.

You cannot go wrong with the Hoxton. I was on the 6th floor and it was quiet though oddly you could still hear people shouting and screaming outside (lasted 5 minutes). It's easy to get to, nice vibes, amazing pool, great drinks and super friendly staff. Decor is better than London (sorry, London). Rooms are cosy, no carpet in sight, bathroom had everything you needed and the complimentary coffee and teas were a hit. I booked the room on my way to the hotel, so the rate wasn't the best but I'd stay here again and book further in advance for a cheaper rate.

The quality of the mattress and pillows was superb, and the bathroom was first-rate. Very clean. Very comfortable. The housekeepers did a great job. And if you like sun, we had lots of it!. Also, the staff in the hotel were wonderful -- super-helpful, friendly, accessible. AND it was very convenient to have an excellent restaurant downstairs that provided breakfast as well as dinners.

The room was small for the price we paid. We had a king-size bed, and the bed took up 80 percent of the space in the room. Also, if you have a fear of heights, ask for a lower-floor room -- our room was high-up and one side of the bed was only a foot from the plate-glass window. In terms of the lobby and dining areas, the music was turned up much too loud.

The property was very modern and cozy. I was here celebrating my birthday and the hotel was sure to make me feel very special on this day with a bottle of wine and a few dozen roses. It truly felt like home and I was sad to leave this hotel. My favorite part was the showers at this property! We love a new and updated bathroom. The property is also walking distance to lots of food options and a mall across the street. I liked that ordering a taxi was very easy through the front desk staff as well.

Everything was amazing. I would stay again.
