This hotel is ideally situated for arriving from the airport or by car. I know this hotel very well as until recently I lived in Whickham. We stayed here for 6 nights on bed & breakfast basis. We also had meals at the hotel. All food was beautifully cooked. The standard bedroom had a king size bed in a bedroom of a decent size. Our bedroom 206 had recently been upgraded. The hotel sits on a Main Street in the village. We asked for a “valley view” to avoid any passing road traffic, not that the main road is that busy. There are great transport facilities to the centre of Newcastle, Metrocentre and Whitley Bay.

Location is very well situated being around 3 miles from A1 at Newcastle and Gibside (National Trust property) a short drive away. Staff are very kind, helpful and welcoming. It feels very much like this is a family owned hotel. The food is much better than we have had at much more expensive hotels clearly being freshly prepared and of high quality including pizza my son had for his tea which was freshly made and the Eggs Benedict my wife and son had for breakfast. The room was huge as it was a Junior Suite with two bathrooms. Small amount of parking onsite but council car park to the rear which is free after 5.30pm.

Not a lot, we got what we paid for. The rooms had probably been updated some time ago so some form of use is to be expected. The room was a bit dark so fine for an overnight stay.

I wasn't expecting a great deal, because of previous reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. Yes the hotel has a very weird layout and people with disabilities will have access problems, not just to the rooms. Virtually everywhere. Overall I enjoyed my stay. I took my dog which was a bonus. It is dog friendly and staff made lots of fuss of him. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant, although they made provisions for me and my dog to have breakfast in a separate area. Dogs are allowed in the bar for evening meals and socialising. So my boy came first and this hotel was ideal for this. Rooms were a nice size with the normal facilities. I did notice an iron and ironing board at the end of one corridor, so communal use. The red carpets were an odd choice as they showed up everything, suppose not a bad thing as you know it's clean. The bed was adequate for my needs (although felt like 2 singles made into a double. Smart TV with access to netflix and prime using your own account. The price I paid for the room was reasonable for the area. I have stayed in lots of hotels recently and some prices are shocking. I know dogs are not everyone's cup of tea. Just be aware there will be some. I try and be considerate to other guests

The weird corridor layout. Provisions for parking. Although council run carpark. It would have been good if residents were given permits.

I stayed here once for a night in Newcastle and found the hotel very pleasant and comfortable. I chose this place again when I had to go to Newcastle for an exam to guarantee a good night sleep. The hotel is very comfortable and staff are very nice. My checkout was extended to mid day when I requested it. There's a public car park opposite the hotel which is free on weekends and about £2 for several hours on week days. The view from outside the hotel of Newcastle is also very pretty. Just a few minutes walk from the hotel is a Tesco express and a weatherspoons. Overall I would happily stay here again

All was great

Another return trip to the Gibside Hotel. The hotel is situated in the village of Whickham but with easy access to the city of Newcastle by car, taxi or bus. There are a number of restaurants and pubs in Whickham but the Sphinx bar in the hotel is a great place for a meal or a drink and has some great meal specials. The room was clean and large, our room only had a shower. The bed was comfortable, there was a kettle in the room with tea, coffee and biscuits and a flat screen television. Some toiletries were also available.

Hotel had taken notice of our request and had managed to upgrade us to a ground floor room as we had said this would be preferable for health reasons. The room was comfortable but rather chilly on arrival - there again it was minus 6 outside! When we needed to suddenly change our plans they were able to accommodate the alteration and we were able to stay the extra night. We returned later in the week and were back in the same room and this time the beds were made up as a double, the room was warm and the staff even remembered to enquire about the health of the relative we had visited. It felt extremely welcoming and made our stay much more pleasant.

no real complaints other than the cold corridor from reception to our room - but it was in the coldest week of the year to date so nothing they could do about it

The room was warm, clean, bed was comfortable and all the facilities worked. There were some nice soaps, shampoo, coffee and tea. The breakfast was great we are vegetarian and they had suitable options for both of us. My wife fancied a slice of toast so we asked and the lady kindly made some and brought it out. I would definitely go there again

There was a random sofa in the long passage, the light in the bathroom was not fixed on properly and there were some weird noises in the night I think the window has a hole so there is a whistling sound and it didn't help it was a very windy day.

Lovely friendly staff, room was brilliant, lots of 'move about' room, king size bed, lots of storage for clothes etc, large bathroom with bath and shower, lots of mirrors for applying make up, not for selfies lol!, HD TV, coffee and tea making facilities in the room, safe on wardrobe, free WiFi, fantastic breakfast you basically can order whatever hot breakfast you want, staff are so friendly and cater to your every need, nice quiet location with bus routes to Newcastle every 15 minutes, great pubs and bars locally, what more can I say you won't be disappointed booking the Gibside so just go for it!

Enjoyed our one night stay at the Gibside Hotel recently. We had a lovely comfortable room with everything we needed - nice and warm too! The hotel was conveniently situated for our visit to Gibside National Trust property - just a short drive away. The staff at the hotel were extremely pleasant and helpful. Lovely comfortable bar area. The parking was very convenient. Will certainly stay there again when next in the area.

Our stay was on a Sunday and we were a little disappointed that we were not able to have a meal after 6.30p.m. However, this didnot spoil our stay as we were able to have a very pleasant meal nearby in the village.
