Malmaison Newcastle

Rooms are all good here, not outstanding, and whilst a little dated, still very comfortable and some would say a little glamorous. Recommend a view over the Tyne. Breakfast is good too, staff have been there for years and are really lovely, same with the bar, always friendly and helpful.

The main annoyance here is the systems they use. Despite staying here a lot, two of three times a month, I still get asked "have you stayed with us before", surely it should know!? The other complaint could be the privacy of rooms, connecting room are bad for noise as are the corridors, so the doors to the rooms clearly don't block out the noise travelling through.

Ideal central location. Good size room, bathroom and bed. Varied selection for breakfast although continental options slightly lacking from this level of hotel. Perfect as we could take our dog.

Noise from outside and the loud music until 2am on the fri night from the bar next door. We did mention to reception and was offered to move room however after unpacking and having a hectic schedule ahead we chose not to, a discount would have been more welcoming especially as we paid extra for the river view….not great customer service on this point. It appears the cheaper rooms are the quietest!!! Disappointed that spa not open on a Monday & Tuesday.

It was great placement for walking around the centre of Newcastle! Everything is within about a 20 min walk! Staff were amazing and helpful, and they have a Starbucks! I mean if that’s not a selling point then I’m not sure what is haha. The spa is also amazing value for money! The girls were lovely and I cannot fault my treatment at all. It was exactly what I needed after a night out in Newcastle town.

I feel that the breakfast menus and the menus were a little over priced. I’m aware it’s a high end hotel and in the middle of the city centre but the breakfast menus especially I feel were a little unreasonable.

The reception staff are amazing and so very helpful, I had a disabled friend and they couldn't be kinder to us and as helpful.

The hotel taxi service is something to review, we waited a long time for a taxi and when it arrived the driver didn't have a clue where we were going, we had to google and give him directions and he did not know where to park or get close to the building and my disable friend had to walk a lot further than she needed too, he didn't know what to charge us as he forgot to put the peter on and was not happy to charge by machine and wanted cash. Not sure about it being executive travel.

Room was a lovely size, view was amazing and was very comfortable with a large settee etc. Bed was super comfy, nice bathroom, air con perfect and room was very very quiet, black out curtains were good just didn't quite cover the windows. Parking really convenient, location amazing. We missed breakfast so can't comment on that. Bed linen and bathroom clean.

Cannot understand what the designer was trying to achieve with the decor we had a junior suite and it looked like a student flat but hey ho but what really lets this hotel down is the upholstry is very marked and dirty - cup rings on the pouffe/coffee table and settees downstairs, paint on the curtains. Beer in the bar very poor worst moretti ever tasted and glasses all wrong. HOWEVER that said we would probably stay here again because of all the good points but come on Malmaison have a little pride recover and replace where necessary.

Room 316 was spacious and comfortable and had all the amenities I would expect. The gym is just too small and hot and I struggle with getting equipment to work first thing in the mornign - socket issues or not switched on same with air con. Not enopugh equipment and room far too small and crammed Breakfast was OK eggs poached perfect bacon OK bit thin sausage was tough been sat for too long and dried out Location is absolutely spot on with lovely views and close to my office

The breakfast was OK sausage and black pudding dry and tasteless Gym far too small and limited equipment - one treadmill one bike one cross trainer and not much room to do weights

Lilly at the reception went above and beyond for us and was the most hospitable person at the front desk a real delight so welcoming. Bed was very comfortable and the view of the bridge was great! Car park was directly behind the hotel which was amazing and so conveniently organised.

Not a single bottle of water in a 4 star hotel room? 47 countries I have travelled to and hundreds of hotel stays in England. Never seen this. I was told water is only in the junior suite ? I had to pay £4 for a bottle of water to make a cup of tea with. Do not drink tap water and especially not from the bathroom sink.

The breakfast was great. I liked that you exchanged a maid service for a drink at the bar - a neat way to save resources and the environment.

Staff on reception: On our welcome one receptionist was over familiar. On the Saturday evening another receptionist was short with us when we enquired about a late check out on the Sunday. It was dark at reception and I couldn't see what I was signing for due to a bulb that should have been replaced. Our room was really small, very dark and you couldn't have the lamps on without the main ceiling lights. There was no where to put a bag to open up except on the floor. The bathroom floor needed a really good clean especially the bin.

it was beautifully clean, all of the staff that we spoke with were so friendly and helpful, a little birthday card and chocolates were left in the room for my husband, the bed was very very comfortable and they also accommodated a request for a room with a view for me too!

The only issue we had with our entire experience was that the air con unit was seemingly broken as around every 10ish minutes it would sound like when copper pipes vibrate in an old house and would last about a minute before it stopped again. It was quite loud and did keep waking us through the night. We did mention it at check out and was told they’d get someone to look at it so hopefully it was fixed for the next person :)

Parking over the road at Sandgate car park for only £6 (Friday night) which actually lasted from Friday afternoon until midnight Saturday if needed. Great view from the room. It was facing Quayside but even with the window open noise was not intrusive. Nice sized room. Both reception and breakfast staff very nice and friendly/helpful. Breakfast was lovely. Comfortable bed.

Hot water or rather not being able to get cold water for bath/shower. There was a warning about the hot water, but it was difficult to work out how the get the cold to work.
