Carlton Hotel

We stayed 4 nights. I rated the Carlton Hotel very high for all categories. Our room had a lovely small balcony overlooking the courtyard. The easy and available complementary parking was a huge plus. Very impressive collection of wines for sale; nice touch. Restaurant next door and others nearby is a great convenience. Also had a gym/work out room.

We were not aware of a microwave to reheat food; would have liked to have that appliance available somewhere in the hotel. Also would have appreciated complementary water and Kurig coffee in the Lobby (not just in our room). A small shopette at the front desk or vending machine anywhere in the hotel for those late night snack cravings would have been great. Also, hotel pen and paper was missing in our room. All are minor items (except the microwave) but are small add'l comfort conveniences that are usually available in higher quality hotels. I would definately rate the Carlton in that category. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and will be back!

The hotel is historic, almost 100 years old. The remodel was very elegant. The room was spacious and accommodating and plush.

As mentioned in the amenities, there was no tub. That was a huge disappointment, since I brought bath salts because I don’t have a tub in my home. . As mentioned in the amenities, there were no bathrobes. The desk did not mention the spa/workout room, so I don’t know if it was in operation.

we really liked how accessible it is to Paso and the surrounding areas. It has a cool energy around downtown Atascadero. The bed was comfortable and the big perk is they are dog friendly. I like that you can leave the dogs in the room if necessary when crated.

It is a bit dated. The shower fixtures are very old and while they look great, they aren’t as sealed as they could be. Water sprays all over the bathroom. You do have to jiggle the handle a bit on the toilet for it to stop running. But these are very small things. One thing that I found strange is the smell of weed permeated the 3rd floor when we got there around 12:30am. It did not bleed into the room which was good.

The room was so quiet. The hotel was central to town and also between SLO and Paso making it a perfect place to stay. The sheets were really nice- I love soft sheets!

Due to California law you have to ask for shampoo and conditioner at the desk. They were happy to provide them, and I personally like single use bottles vs multi use pumps. so worth the ask and not their fault.

The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom was beyond spacious and clean The decor was over the top Tuscan style. Walking distance to a nice park and restaurants

It was a bit noisy next to the ice maker. something was making a humming sound all night. It is unfortunate the the hotel did not have a restaurant on site.

Lovely old hotel. The room was quite large and nicely decorated. The bathroom was luxurious. Everything was clean, quiet, and attention to detail was good. Staff was friendly and helpful. The patio was a great place to relax, and the hotel is close to restaurants and the walkable city center.

The internet was slow.

We've stayed at the Carlton Hotel 4 times. The staff is wonderful, rooms are spacious, very comfortable beds and clean. The hotel is in Downtown Atascadero walking distance to shops, restaurants and bars. The bakery attached to the hotel is wonderful for morning coffee and breakfast.

The room we stayed in this visit was a little tired, stained carpet, and definitely needed some work in the bathroom.

Loved this historic hotel with all the room upgrades. The staff was very friendly and helpful in suggesting restaurants. I loved walking down the streets and to a local park nearby, We very much enjoyed our stay.

I was disappointed that the restaurant adjacent to the hotel was closed. There wasn't a microwave in the room.

- Great location at the center of Atascadero and close to the main freeway! - Nice and presentable atmosphere in the hotel! - Comfortable armchair in the room! - Spacious room and bathroom with full size mirror!

- Parking spots are very narrow on the open parking next to hotel. Other option was street parking but it was busy. - Shower has only very high pressure water, nice to have but not comfortable with only such mode, also no shower cap available.

This is a beautiful historic building with large rooms (really large), comfortable beds, lots of linens, and friendly staff. While Atascadero doesn't have a lot to offer with respect to destinations, everything a visitor might want to see is an easy walk away. The bakery downstairs is very good.

I don't think that the property has seen a lot of visitors during the pandemic and that was apparent in some missed maintenance; two towel rings and a door handle in the bathroom fell off during our stay. The county dashboard reported that only half the population of SLO county had been vaccinated for COVID but almost no one was wearing a mask indoors (like, it was basically us), despite the increase in infections due to delta variant. This isn't a knock against the property but after this experience we're not eager to return to the area.
