The Sands of Treasure Island

This is one of, if not the oldest hotel on the strip. Think retro...my friends and I love, love, love this place. Right on the beach, great pool, and a wonderful, covered, breezeway where you can sit while watching the storms roll in off the Gulf. Or the sunset or the people passing on a sidewalk connecting all the beachfront resorts and restaurants. But the absolute BEST PART is their staff. Linda is a permanent fixture and she and the crew take excellent care of us. This is NOT your "cookie-cutter" beach condo...this is an old school, OLD FLORIDA apartment complete with full stove, apartment fridge, coffeemaker and toaster. Super economical. Endless hot water with great pressure...alot of folks return there year after year just like we do because the atmosphere is homey and relaxed, with much camaraderie between staff and guests. Just came home and going back in February...for the record, I AM a Florida Native and this place feels like home!

Parking is very limited in front of hotel so arrive at check in to secure your spot. Trolley runs right in front and goes up and down the strip .

Absolutely, hands down, the best location especially for the price! Beach is about a 2 minute walk - crossing a walking/bike trail and the dunes. Beach has rentable umbrellas and chairs (not through the hotel) but super convenient! If you’re looking for fancy, this place is not for you as the hotel is a little dated and feels like stepping back in time but gives you that true beach life feel. Our room was like a one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen so it was great for our family. Plenty of parking but there’s only a handful of spots up front so just wish they had a designated spot for loading/unloading as the overfill parking is close by (about 400ft) but have to cross the busy Gulf Blvd.

Honestly, it could’ve been cleaner. It is right on the beach so understand that there’s going to be SOME sand but the floors needed a good sweeping and the furniture was gross. However, for the price, the location, and the space needed for our family, we just cleaned to our standards and put an extra sheet over the couch and chairs so it was fine and we had an amazing trip!

Let the front desk was amazing like I called day of check in to let these people know that I bringing my grandsons instead of a friend of mine and they were so kind that they accommodated us with no charge this was by far one of the best places I have stayed at on the beach in St Pete so far very reasonably prized very laid back atmosphere very clean no hidden anything just up front what it is is what you get and it's a nice place

Actually I really can't think of anything that I didn't like about this place and I'm not just saying that cuz I'm not an over criticizing person but I'm definitely an honest person and truly there was nothing I could tell you that I didn't like about it

This is the second time that I stayed here. Wow there was not anything that I didn't like here. So many conveniences of staying at the Sands. The most popular for me is right there on the beach!. Really enjoyed our stay. It was a quick trip, to see Nicholas Sparks with my daughter. I will be back a third time most definitely. I was planning on coming back next week for one or two days with my daughter from Tennessee. That trip will also be a spur of the moment. I can't wait to see you soon.

What I did not like was all the bad reviews that people has given this quaint little place. I suppose from reading the reviews they stay at five star Resort, To each their own, I was just really surprised . I myself give this a five star. The saddest part about this trip is hearing that they're tearing it down at the end of April granted to put up a bigger place I know with the same owners it's going to be just as quaint.

Location was wonderful, parking was good, staff was sweet and helpful, had an issue with our door not staying shut, they tried to get it fixed but maintenance never came, just kept it locked and used back door, or would stay close to the room once it got too late, they helped us as much as they could. Will return do to the family, homey feel it gives off. It is an older motel but you can tell they try they're hardest to keep it on the up and up, and the people that go there have been coming back for years, so they must be doing something right!

Just wish that door could've been fixed, so I knew my stuff or child or ourselves were nice and safe, luckily we were so no harm no foul.

Harry in the office was amazing and all the other staff were really friendly and helpful. A lot of space! On the beach. Our kids had a blast. Our overall stay was amazing. Perfect location.

From the other patrons I gather that their places were cleaner than ours. It did seem that ours was prepared in haste. Linen didn't seem fresh. Didn't have the right size sheet for the sleeper couch. Drawers were dirty. Fridge wiped with a dirty cloth. Not enough towels, cutlery and plates. We had wipe most surfaces ourselves. Floors not mopped. Basic kitchen items like a cutting board and oven pan was missing.

Right on the beach away from the busy and crowded beaches. Perfect for older people. Staff so helpful and friendly. Especially Linda, who always checked on us every day with an armful of towels and a friendly smile offering to tidy up our beds .(when was the last time this personal service....every day.) Pool was very clean surrounded by loungers, tables,and all kinds of things for the pool and the beach Bbq grills, shuffleboard and Cornhole sloping bases. A short walk to John's Pass for food and entertainment Has retro charm established in 1947. So the rooms also retro. Large kitchen/dining area. There's also also a very large living area with a fold out sofa, tv and desk We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return and recommend to our friends and family.

Having to leave

The rooms were very spacious and the beds were comfy. I liked the retro kitchen table and the blue metal stand in the living room area was great for our hair dryer and supplies. Though the showerhead is kind of low, the water pressure was awesome and no one had to take a cold shower. Plenty of warm water for showers was very much appreciated. Being on the beach is the biggest plus for The Sands! It's a beautiful location and a short walk to a gorgeous beach. The staff was pleasant and helpful.

The furniture in the living room sure could use some updating/cleaning. . It's looking a little ratty. Also, some end tables would be nice, though we did use the little triangular coffee table to set our drinks while watching TV at night....whoever painted the walls was a bit sloppy...maybe, next time use painter's tape. However, overall, the value for our money was well spent.

Location is great, maybe 50 yards and your feet are in the sand. Plenty of room. Will 100% be back with my entire family! Like having your own apartment! Area is quiet. There are only 8-12 parking spots in front of the facility, 2 of spaces are handicap accessible. But there are 2 carports across the street for The Sands Guests.

Only "issues" we had in 116 were the blinds, a few spots of peeling paint, the bathtub drain needs the hair pulled out of it and our coffee pot was missing pieces. Nothing that we didn't understand nor did it kill1¹ our trip!
