La Quinta by Wyndham Carlsbad

In writing, I asked the hotel if I could please have a ground floor room because I am physically compromised and taking my dog out 3–4 times is arduous when using elevator, etc. I received no response and when I checked in, I was assigned a room on the top floor. Disappointed, I dragged all my stuff up there to find the room had not been cleaned! Dragged all my stuff back down to the desk and I was finally given a handicap room after being told there were no ground floor rooms available. The room was GREAT and convenient! The young woman running breakfast was VERY FRIENDLY and HELPFUL. She’s a great employee! (I’m sorry I didn’t get her name.)

See above… Poor communication (no response) from the hotel was troubling.

The food was warm, the options available, the waffles, the staff during check in and check out. They were kind and made great conversation. They answered any questions I had. Loved the modern fun style. The seating for breakfast.

When I unrolled the bath mat for the first time from under the sink it was wet. Seemed used or wasn’t dry yet. The tub was fine as is when I decided not to use. Other than that everything was great.

It’s new, modern. There was ample parking. The lobby area was inviting, plenty of comfortable seating, and very clean. It’s easy to get to, close to restaurants, and conveniently close to Carlsbad National Park (25 miles). The king room was nicely decorated with a seating area. All staff we encountered we very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was decent - the normal eggs, meat, potatoes, waffles, toast, bagels, cereal, etc. The outdoor pool area was not open at the time of our visit.

It is on the main ‘drag’ of Carlsbad and therefore if your room is on the front of the hotel you can definitely hear a lot of traffic. The mattress was a little too firm for me, but that’s just personal preference.

The service at La Quinta was exceptional to say the least. Very kind and welcoming people although check in time is a bit late in the day and would be preferred to be flexible between 1-3pm.

I cannot really think of anything i disliked other than the service at the breakfast area. Food ran out quickly and was not replaced on time for everyone to have a share. I overheard people complaining about the long wait.

The manager went over and above!! The facility was very clean with all the comforts of home!! Breakfast was outstanding!! A full breakfast with eggs sausage potatoes biscuits and gravy cereal yogurt toast bagels and cream cheese much more!! The lady who was attending even made extra biscuits when we ran out. Very friendly and helpful.

We needed the handicap room and it was located behind the sign on the front of the hotel so we could not see around it....no view and it blocked the sun in the morning.

I figure there was no regular hot breakfast bar because of Covid. But they replaced it with microwaveable breakfast sandwiches. We ate them every morning & it was great. We really appreciated having any hot breakfast at all. But, as all hotels, they put it away at 9. It didn't affect us this trip. But we almost never get up in time. Why are travelers who have different/abnormal schedules not treated the same as others. There should be some kind of real food available until checkout time. However, this is not specific to this hotel.

See above. Also, we hiked to the tallest peaks in Texas & really needed to get into the hot tub to relax/rehab our muscles afterwards. But we couldn't because it was full of families. It really upset us because it's one reason we stayed here. But that's really the only issue we had.

The room was big and it was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful.

In my opinion, the hot tub wasn’t very hot, and the jets didn’t seem to work with a lot of jet power. When we went swimming it was later in the day and they didn’t have pool towels left out near the pool for us to use.

The staff was great at helping with our needs in a timely manner even though they seemed story staffed. The pool was greatly enjoyed by our 2 toddlers. Great hotel for traveling with kids. The lobby always kept coffee station stocked and with hot coffee/water.

I was a bit shock that the grounds maintenance was not kept up. Our stay was over 2 days and not once was the trash at the pool or entrance to hotel picked up. Honestly I overlooked this because overall the staff was great and you could see they were doing their very best with the little staff they had. Grab and go breakfast could have been better. My suggestion something you could pop in the microwave.

The breakfast was just take and go, but they had enough to make us happy. The room was nice and I was glad we were overlooking the parking lot to see our car. Had to drive for dinner because there was nothing in walking distance. The front desk guy with all the tats was super nice and helpful. He was working until 7 pm and was back at 7 am!

No walking distance for food. The 2 rooms next to us kept going in and out of each others rooms and kept slamming the doors. It was very rude and annoying. Other than that, the place was nice.

This was my favorite hotel we stayed at on our journey across the southwest! Very clean, very comfortable and very updated. The location was great for us since we were visiting Carlsbad Caverns - this is basically the last hotel before the caverns! I would 100% stay here if I visit the area again!

I wish they would open their breakfast back up, the bagged breakfasts are not very good (just a prepackaged muffin, a Quakers Chewy granola bar and a water bottle). I know it’s due to Covid, so I really hope they open it back up for future visitors because we were really disappointed by the bagged ones. Other hotels we’ve stayed at have also done bagged breakfasts but have contained much better items.
