Hampton Inn Smithfield Selma, NC

We stayed here for my wedding and let me just say from the room to the staff, everything was amazing. We decided to do a hotel the weekend of the wedding at the last minute. So when the staff at the front desk found out I was getting married, they sprung into action. I got a free snack item off the wall. my bridesmaids got to take the tall chairs from the lobby upstairs for makeup. My now husband and I were going to stay in the same room I did the night before so housekeeping came in redid my room. there were heart decorations on the door and rose petals all on the bed and floor when we came in. there was a bottle of champagne in the fridge, water bottles on the counter, and the tv was on a love radio station. it was so beautiful and the staff here are so sweet and very thoughtful 1000/10 stars!!!

The room was large, and quite possibly the cleanest hotel room I have ever stayed in! One bed was somewhat firm, the other somewhat soft, which was perfect, as me and my partner have different preferences in beds. The staff was uniformly kind and helpful. The breakfast was awesome, and they even had a staff person handling dishing out the hot items. I couldn't be more pleased with all aspects of this facility, except...

I was on the 2nd floor facing the Interstate, and the level of the highway noise was surprising. Also: I continue to be appalled by the upcharge hotels that call themselves "pet friendly" charge for the courtesy of allowing your pet to sleep on their floor. I realize that some folks don't take good care of facilities, allow their pets to chew things, sleep on or in the beds, etc. BUT, as they have always had issues with humans trashing rooms: the same mechanisms used in the past to charge guests for damages should be adequate for damages caused by a guest's pets. $75, about a 33% increase in the cost of the room, is NOT reasonable.

The location was conveniently close to the highway and is also close to an outlet center. The woman at reception was very friendly and check in was quick and efficient. The room was spacious and clean. The parking area was large and easy to park in. The bath soaps and shampoo were of good quality, which is always a nice surprise. The breakfast area is large and spacious.

This isn't a criticism, just an observation. When we were about to check out, there was no one at the reception desk and no way to get someone to come. We saw another guest put their key card in a basket on the desk so we did the same, as we couldn't wait any longer. We did get an email confirmation that we had checked out, but it could have been made clear that this was the procedure for checking out.

The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. I traveled with my 93 year old mom and they were very understanding and caring with our wheelchair accessible accommodations. When requesting a wheelchair accessible room, I didn't realize the one I chose had a bathtub and they quickly made the change and accommodated our needs by exchanging it to a room with only a wheelchair accessible shower. The other wonderful thing was the breakfast and dining area, it was top notch! A lot of variety however, I wish there were vegan/chicken meat options.

Although the shower area was accommodating, the water drainage wasn't install on a slope and water would trapped in a corner of the bathroom but we placed towels on the floor near that corner and it did the trick! Other than that, it was fine and the bathroom was very clean.

The staff was so nice from start to finish. When we checked in we had a very nice gentleman who checked us in with no hassle gave us our key and we were in our room with in 15 min. When we went down for breakfast the two ladies that were serving were so kind and respectful and at check out the gentleman at the front was very friendly. I would definitely stay here again.

There was nothing not to like the place was great.

The room was clean and modern. The kids enjoyed the breakfast.

The pool, which was supposed to be the highlight of the stay for our kids, was freezing. Other comparable hotels have another sleep option for the money, such as a sleeper sofa, and we were very cramped.

The waffle topping options at breakfast were awesome. The hotel was neat and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a great stay here. The kids really enjoyed the pool despite our late arrival which waa nice. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Patrons were smoking right outside the entrance, so there was no way to avoid their smoke entering and exiting.

This was a stop-over night for us during a longer drive. We used the exercise room and had a good breakfast. The room was very clean and comfortable, and we slept well. The hotel is convenient to get off and back on the expressway, but there was no road noise in our room. We found a good restaurant in town (just a few miles away).

Everyone was so nice and very helpful. Very clean and plenty of snacks and things to drink. Room was good size and TV was nice Nice area with plenty of places to eat and shop. Close to Raleigh and Benson, Clayton, etc.

Mattress was horrible. Very lumpy and I could not sleep.

The cleanliness

One staff member extremely friendly. One not so friendly. Was perturbed because I called prior to making my reservation inquiring if there was an indoor pool and if it was accessible. I clearly stated that I wanted to make sure before making a weekend reservation because I was bringing grandchildren. I was simply told "yes". Friday upon arrival, when I inquired, I was told you had to sign up for an hour at a time . The schedule was full and I was told it was best to be in lobby to sign up at 7 am! This info should have been given to me when I called.
