Marshall Slocum Inn

Very charming inside. The property on the exterior definitely needs attention. Just the smallest amount of effort in up keep would do wonders. I understand this particular unit is sublet and maintenance is up to the other property owner but it should still be addressed.

The mildew mold and green algae all over exterior with the rotted wood above the door. We were there for our honeymoon and I it was lovely inside but the outer deck and structure are less to be desired. We ended up with large spiders crickets a bee and lady bugs in our room. I suggest some mold and mildew cleaner and a good scrub broom. More comfortable chairs on the deck for sitting that don’t stain your cloths when sitting on them! Address structure with property owner and get it fixed!

We were a 15-minute drive to wedding at Castle Hill, our ultimate destination. We were within walking distance of a terrific place for breakfast and driving distance to Ash Mart (for a quick sandwich), recommended by young man at desk. We prefer guest houses to hotels/motels and were delighted to stay in a historically significant house with its period decor and objects and books. My spouse started the Lindbergh book! Oh, the neighborhood is so, so quiet. I spent a fair amount of time searching for a guest house. While closeness to Castle Hill was a priority for me, I am equally interested in the history of places.

Mattress a little hard, which is really a quibble given overall beauty of the room.

The Inn has a great location; we walked to the main attractions and restaurants in the marina area of Newport. We left our car in the backyard. The neighborhood is charming and safe. The owner and his wife are most hospitable and helpful. I enjoyed staying at their property; we felt most welcome. I liked the dining room in the morning - eating breakfast and sharing travelling tips with other guests around the large table.

A small room in the house was the only negative aspect. It was still quite comfortable and clean.

Great location for visiting Newport. An easy 5-10 min stroll to the harbour front and popular Thames street with its many attractions. it was also a 5 min stroll to Bellevue Avenue shopping area which is also the start of the mansions district and near the start of the Cliff walk. A lovely and period apartment with luxury quality bed linens and towels. We were in the one bedroom apartment, which had a lovely aspect out over the garden and was a nice large space .

Quiet cozy hotel with pleasant yard and balcony. Room was clean and functional. Tea/coffee stand in lobby 24 hours. Located quite centrally in Newport, and ample parking in lot

This is an old house that was converted into small hotel with narrow and steep stairway making lugging suitcases up and down a bit tight. Staff is not present most of the time (although there seemed to be provision for contacting someone online). Owners and staff do their best to make things nice, but given what it is, seems a bit pricey.

Room was clean & spacious,. Location was good. Walk to Broadway restaurants.

Apartment was at next door location, through a field with crab apples on the ground & up a long flight of stairs. Very tough to navigate for senior with mobility issues. Stair railing was covered in algea. Had we known this we would have booked elsewhere. Inn offered 10% cash discount but this was unavailable to us because we made the mistake of booking through Booking.com.

Great location, quiet, on site parking, excellent price, super super clean, nice renovated rooms with good linens, in a house with a lot of interesting Newport history. Nice grounds, Easy check-in, easy checkout. No TV in room, but who cares (I had my iPad and good Wifi).

I opened window a few inches for fresh air overnight, and it was a little difficult to get the small screen set properly in the window. It was really nice however, waking up to birds singing outside!

Beautiful old home. Owner/host was very pleasant. Very surprised at the excellent plumbing pressure and hot water. Also excellent sound proofing. Our room was the most traveled passed room and we didn't hear much. Very nice bed linens and bedspread, and plush towels, nice touch with provided bathrobes. Many seating areas throughout home and in backyard and ample off-street parking. Free candy machines for the sweet tooth. Complimentary coffee/tea provided in morning. Convenient small store for snacks, wine, champagne, and pastries in a.m. Nice neighborhood for walking and looking at old homes.

We got the smallest room of the house. Oh well. Bathroom was up a spiral staircase. All other rooms were lovely and spacious.

Very clean. Centrally located. Nice amenities like free teas or cofee, free candies. A nice selection of items to buy such as beer , wine soda, small breakfast items and snacks. Good parking as well.

We liked sitting on the deck at night after coming back to the Inn. The deck needs some basic maintenance like pressure washing, and some basic landscaping. Its a little overgrown.

Mr. Spring was great host, very friendly and ready to answer questions and help in any way possible. The room was decorated beautifully with everything we needed. Breakfast was wonderful just what we needed.

I truly cannot think of anything that could have been better, we just truly enjoyed every moment of our time at Marshall Slocum Inn. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a quiet lovely room to enjoy.
