Hampton Inn Charleston Downtown

Location is pretty central in Charleston WV. Breakfast was the classic hotel breakfast, so it met my expectations. The room was clean and tidy, which I greatly appreciated after a long drive. I only had to stay one night to rest on my way to Richmond, so my expectations could be different from the typical guest here. However, for what I needed the hotel met all my expectations.

It was slightly pricy in my opinion but the service was good enough to make me feel like I did not waste money staying here. I guess the room lighting could have been slighly better, as the room felt a bit dark with the lighting that was already there.

Very friendly staff and nice size room. My wife uses a wheelchair and even though I didn't book an accessible room, they offered us to compare the two, which was very nice of them. We kept our original room and it still worked great with the wheelchair. Overall quite, considering pets are allowed, but that's really based on the other guests staying in the hotel while you're there. True. (Our co-guests we're very respectful of others) Fresh Coffee Bar All Day!! We would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I are used to having a "Do Not Disturb Sign" we can hang outside in case we didn't want the room cleaned, here, you have to request having your room cleaned. It's just different. Our room didn't have a frig or microwave, but I believe that was just a temporary thing.

It was clean and comfortable. It was only a few minutes walking distance from the Civic Center and restaurants. The room has a desk, closet, and enough space for a family. Check out wasn’t until noon and they had a small breakfast bar that I didn’t get a chance to try. There was also an indoor pool.

I would have loved for the room to had a mini fridge at least. It was supposed to have a microwave but it did not. A smart TV or an HDMI cord would have been awesome. Also they cleaned up for breakfast at 10 o’clock (check out was noon) including the drink machines and pastries. It would’ve been nice if those things were available longer. They did not have vending machines, just a small variety of drinks and snacks at the counter.

The breakfast was good. All the staff were very friendly. We checked in late, but had no problems.

The beds were small. I've never been in a hotel where there were double beds, not queen, but we managed fine. Also the bathroom was small. I'm not tall, but my hands hit the ceiling when i was getting ready to take a shower.

Everything about the property and our stay there was really good, but the one things that stood out far above the rest was the friendliness of the staff! After visiting a couple nearby businesses and restaurants prior to check-in we were concerned because Charleston WV is apparently home to some very unfriendly and unprofessional people! But not at the Hampton Inn Downtown! Every encounter I had from check-in to check-out was great, including the maintenance man who came to unclog our toilet (not their fault, kids just like to waste toilet paper!). The management at this location needs to be very proud of their staff, and participate Ms. Rebecca who checked us in and referred us to some restaurants and businesses to patronize that would be better than the ones we had already encountered. Altogether good, but the staff made it GREAT!

The beds were too firm for me but almost all hotels beds are, so not much to complain about on that.

The location. Across the bridge from the Civic Center & basically right off & back on the highway. Took an early morning swim, had the pool to myself. Nice breakfast selection. Bed was clean and comfy.

Bathroom sink was sluggish. Could not find a remote for the TV. TV screen looked like it was cleaned with a dirty rag. Top of fridge needed dusting, so I didn't even look in the microwave. Coffee at breakfast was horrible & very weak.

Staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions for places to eat. Checking in/out was smooth. Room was clean and comfortable. Nice assotment for hot and cold breakfast foods. We also enjoyed the pool. Location was within walking distance to restaurants and the Capitol.

The ice machine on our floor was not working.

WOW…. Rebecca front desk agent was AMAZING, we also had the privilege of speaking with the General Manger as well as assistant manager! Rebecca had a NASTY HILTONS HONOURS MEMBER… whom was irate out of control and extremely rude towards her, she handled it with empathy, and extreme professionalism! We had several guests witness this and she held composure throughout his rant. I would definitely recommend this property, it is clean, and staff is over the TOP💕

Everything was awesome

I liked the clean room and included breakfast. Our room came with a microwave and fridge which was handy for leftovers from out. The location was right where we needed to be. The front desk staff were super nice and greeted us every time they saw us.

My only issue was while we were in our room someone came in. There was no knock, no announcement of their presence or who was coming and no apology after realizing we were in the room. We were told at check-in that housekeeping wouldn’t come in without our permission, so that was a bit unsettling.

We were at an event at the Civic Center. Easy walk from the hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

My only criticism is the hotel is showing some age. There was a place in the bathroom where the baseboard was coming loose from the wall. Our blind would not raise. There were some paint chips on the heater/air conditioner which had probably been knocked off from people trying to raise the blind. Nothing major, just needs a little TLC.
